stegoDoes anyone have any ideas on how to get around via82cxxx module (or compiled in) hanging the system on boot? It eventually gets loaded later ok, but if I put it at the top of /etc/modules (needed for enabling DMA), I can't boot up!03:11
jbaileyWhat do you mean it's needed for DMA?03:12
jbaileyYou can use hdparm to enable DMA.03:12
jbaileyOr if it's enabling DMA by efault when you do that, perhaps that's why your system's hanging?03:13
stegoUnless I put via82cxxx at the top, hdparm returns "HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted" on one drive, and just hangs on the second optical drive.03:14
stegohttps://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3672 says that DMA is disabled by default on CD-ROM drives though.03:14
jbaileyRight.  But it sounds like one of your devices doesn't support DMA and the other one is buggy.03:15
stegoMy hdparm.conf is all commented as (as default)03:15
stegoBut both work perfectly well in other distributions though!03:15
stegoIf you're at all interested, I have put my troubles to date up at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2880503:16
jbaileyI don't really feel like looking at it right now.03:18
jbailey(I'm watching the simpsons at the same time)03:19
stegoOk. Where should I go for help?03:19
jbaileySince you have steps to reproduce and all that, your best bet is proably bugzilla.03:20
stegoOk, I will try that. Thanks and enjoy the Simpsons :)03:21
