It eventually gets loaded later ok, but if I put it at the top of /etc/modules (needed for enabling DMA), I can't boot up! [03:12] What do you mean it's needed for DMA? [03:12] You can use hdparm to enable DMA. [03:13] Or if it's enabling DMA by efault when you do that, perhaps that's why your system's hanging? [03:14] Unless I put via82cxxx at the top, hdparm returns "HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted" on one drive, and just hangs on the second optical drive. [03:14] https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3672 says that DMA is disabled by default on CD-ROM drives though. [03:15] Right. But it sounds like one of your devices doesn't support DMA and the other one is buggy. [03:15] My hdparm.conf is all commented as (as default) [03:15] But both work perfectly well in other distributions though! [03:16] If you're at all interested, I have put my troubles to date up at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=28805 [03:18] I don't really feel like looking at it right now. [03:19] (I'm watching the simpsons at the same time) [03:19] Ok. Where should I go for help? [03:20] Since you have steps to reproduce and all that, your best bet is proably bugzilla. [03:21] Ok, I will try that. Thanks and enjoy the Simpsons :) === zul [~chuck@CPE0006258ec6c2-CM000a73655d0e.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu-kernel [03:21] Chuck!
