jbaileyUgh.  Anyone here know alsa well?  I'm curious of there will ever be software mixing as part of /dev/dsp.  Annoying to have sounds just work right on some machines and not on others.02:32
zulask crimsun 02:34
jbaileyzul: Cool. Hopefully that'll trigger his nick highlight. =)02:35
lamontfabbione: do we have ipv6 -m state iptables yet?02:42

zulTheMuso: so you got the speakup patches working?05:21
TheMusoI got the patch applied to the kernel cleanly, but it won't build. This is bebecause speakup puts hooks in vt.c. However I don't think it is using the right variable to reference the current console.05:29
TheMusoIf I knew what the variable for referencing the current console was, I could change it. I have noticed this change a few times in recent kernel versions thorough 2.6.9-2.6.1205:30
zulTheMuso: it probably isnt..console_map.h was removed between 2.6.11 and now so speakup stuff probably has to reflect that to get it to  work05:30
TheMusoI will have a look.05:31
TheMusoAccording to the source, console_map is not referenced. The latest version is able to be applied cleanly against 2.6.11 final.05:34
zulthe cvs version?05:34
TheMusoYes, and the 2.0 tarball.05:34
TheMusoCVS hasn't changed since that was released.05:34
zulmeh...where did i see it05:35
zulcvs tar ball is refering to 2.6.1105:36
TheMusoYes thats right.05:37
zulsorry..i meant console_macros05:37
TheMusoBut much has changed in the kernel between then and 2.6.12rc405:37
zulconsole_macros.h have been removed and now i belived its a struct05:38
TheMusoRight.05:39
TheMusoHave you got a copy of speakup there?05:39
zulso you have to check what is changed with console_macros with drivers/char/speakup05:39
zulyep05:39
TheMusoI don't really know what I am looking for.05:40
zulbut im also going to bed soon05:40
TheMusonp.05:40
TheMusoThe speakup hooks use the currcons variable to refer to the console that they are giving Speakup the data from. What should this be changed to?05:41
zulnot sure yet..05:41
zuli only had a brief look at it05:41
zulcurrcons remains unchanged i think05:41
TheMusoWell the kernel wouldn't build if that was referred to in the Speakup hooks for vt.c05:42
zuli was going to look at it tomorrow :)05:42
TheMusoNo problem.05:42
TheMusoI'll see what I can come up with in the meantime.05:42
zulsure..05:42
zulnight05:42
TheMusoLater.05:43
fabbionemorning06:16
fabbionethom: the patch looks good, there is only thing i need to check...06:25
fabbionelamont: no, not yet.06:40
fabbionelamont: that would be something i should so asap06:40
fabbionelamont: but the point is that we also need a brand new iptables package probably06:40
fabbionethom: ok.. the patch as it is can work.06:47
fabbionegenerally we need to pay more attention when pulling in drivers update06:47
fabbionethe main issue are the PCI IDS that they claim to handle06:47
fabbionein this specific case your skge driver claims the same pci ids as the sk86ge driver06:48
fabbioneso there are 2 ways to handle it06:48
fabbioneeither you deconfigure the old driver from being compiled06:48
fabbioneor you maintain the new driver as patch on top of the old one06:48
fabbioneeither way it's fine by me.06:48
fabbionethe cleanest is to disable the old one imho06:49
fabbioneand make the new one live somewhere else06:49
fabbionealso.. updating the changelog is a good idea :)06:49
fabbionei didn't check the configs, but these needs to be updated too 06:49

zulnope not the *.orig *.dsc 03:49
thomzul: it so is :-) http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/l/linux-source-2.6.12/03:49
zulmeh...so it is :)03:50
TheMusozul: I haven't had much luck with speakup. I expect that once 2.6.12 comes out, Kirk the author of Speakup will make changes in CVS to work with that kernel version. Unless getting speakup sorted is a priority for you, I am not going to worry about it till 2.6.12, maybe longer.03:53
zulTheMuso: thats what i figured as well03:54
TheMusozul: As it is however, I am going to continue examining the code as I want to add some enhancements for better multi-user environment interoperability, to hopefully interface with a userspace daemon I am currently planning to write.03:56
zulTheMuso: go ahead...you might want to work upstream with it though03:56
TheMusozul: I was certainly thinking that. I have to work out how to add the enhancements though, sa the author doesn't take too kindly to helping people so much, in a few words he says "Figure it out yourself, and I am happy to accept patches."03:57
zulsounds familar :)03:59
TheMusoDoes it ever. :)04:00
TheMusoSpeakup doesn't work properly on PoewrPC either. I have debugged it, but can't work out a sollution yet either. I think I know what it is, but since it is to do with the hooks that are put into v.c, things are a bit hairy.04:00
