[08:09] This was all working fine on Friday. [08:09] Does anyone know of a fix for this? [08:10] I've googled and found this problem on multiple Linux variants and multiple JVM implementations. === Yendor [~mike@s53-95-181.nap.wideopenwest.com] has joined #ubuntu-java [08:17] Is anyone else even out there? [08:18] I'm sorta here. [08:19] Hey [08:20] Have you ever heard of this issue? [08:22] No. [08:23] Bleah. :( [08:23] I can't run my IDE or my Database-connecting application. [08:24] Is your locale set to CX, by chance? [08:24] laf [08:24] No. :) [08:24] en_US === marcin [~marcin@www.e-dev.tele2.pl] has joined #ubuntu-java [09:06] hi all [09:08] Hi Marcin. [09:09] so, my question is what is a status of this project? [09:09] today I found noninstallable package in hoary multiverse [09:09] Not sure I understand the question? [09:09] Status of hte project? [09:10] Depends which part of the project you mean? [09:10] jde (java development environment for emacs) and this package is noninstallable because there is no Java in ubuntu [09:10] The Ubuntu Java project is primarily focussed around getting a Free Software implementation into Ubuntu [09:10] (no beanshell package) [09:11] well you got this: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/JavaPackagingProgress url in topic - while 'This page does not exist yet. ' [09:11] I don't know beanshell at all. [09:11] so, I would like to know how things are going ;) [09:11] Nobody is working on fixing every package in Multiverse. [09:12] We're open to help though. [09:12] The primary focus has been targetting specific demanded applications and doing the related work to get them suitable for main. [09:12] Currently OpenOffice and Eclipse. [09:12] Mostly we've (And then, mostly wasabi) been getting the base Free Java stuff in and sane. [09:12] It will probably continue in that direction until there is other external momentum. [09:13] wasabi, ok so i think that I could work on Eclipse and this jde package [09:13] Eclipse is in Universe on breezy currently. [09:13] But there's obviously a TON of work to do with it. [09:13] hmm so I need to switch to breezy... [09:13] Like, I want eclipse-cdt and all the other plugins packaged. [09:13] wasabi: Do you have a current TODO list? [09:14] No. I probably never will either. [09:14] =) [09:14] What's the best way to get people to help on the Eclipse package, and presumably form an eclipse packaging team? [09:14] (We could put out a call for assistance on ubuntu-devel) [09:14] wasabi, and what about JRE or JDK packages? I'm still on hoary so I don't know which java implementation you use to build these Eclipse packages? [09:15] marcin, we are currently standardized on GCJ 4. [09:15] wasabi, so there is no Sun Java? [09:15] There isn't. [09:15] And hopefully there never is. ;) [09:16] wasabi, hmm and what about performance? [09:16] It's decent. [09:16] wasabi, how fast is Eclipse on gcj? === doko [~doko___@dsl-084-059-068-059.arcor-ip.net] has joined #ubuntu-java [09:16] jbailey, I haven't been paying attention for a few weeks. Is breezy frozed? [09:16] I've been totally out of the loop or awhile. [09:16] wasabi: Upstream version freeze, not feature freeze. [09:16] Another 2 weeks until feature freeze. [09:16] Okay. I guess I should get this one last change for the symlinks up. [09:16] And leave it like that until post breezy. [09:16] Still room for packaging cleanup in there. That's why I need to write that JavaPackagingPolicy soonish. [09:17] I just don't have time for anything except occassional hacking. === jbailey was at OLS last week. [09:17] And it's going to continue that way for the foreseeable future. [09:17] And some random at-work IRC chatting. [09:17] wasabi: Do you have a simple Java/ant package that I can use to base the packaging policy off of? [09:17] jsch [09:18] 'kay, thanks. [09:18] hmm this is a question for #ubuntu but sorry [09:19] I hate to be flakely, but that's just the way my life is right now. [09:19] I'm still on hoary - is breezy installable/usable? [09:19] Yes, unless you want Java stuff right now. [09:19] :-P [09:20] ok, so I'll try to dist-upgrade... or hmm maybe I'll use my second hdd first [09:20] anyway I'll have pretty much time in August === Yendor is having a problem with any Java-GUI-based application thinking that my default locale is set to CX. [09:22] wasabi, and what about compatibility and stability of these gcj based things? [09:22] What about it? [09:23] wasabi, well, I remember that I had FC3 before ubuntu [09:23] wasabi, and they had some gcj based apps [09:24] wasabi, ant, and totally unusable tomcat === doko [~doko___@dsl-084-059-073-135.arcor-ip.net] has joined #ubuntu-java
