Phantom^^hey can anyone tell me how i can increase my resolution in kde ? in configure desktop it only goes up to 1024 x 768 but i want to get it set to 1280 by 1024 ?01:55
incineratordepending on your gfx card and monitor that may not be possible....01:55
incineratornormally the x server chooses the highest resolution it can display on your gfx/monitor setup01:56

Phantom^^change up to 1280 X 1024 in the configure desktop settings02:39
Phantom^^is there another place i can set my current res ?02:40
nikkiaits possible that your monitor is reporting lies via EDID02:40
nikkiaor your selected X driver just doesn't support 1280x1024 *shrug*02:40
Phantom^^interesting in configure desktop it says Screen 102:40
nikkiai've seen the fb & vesa drivers limit to 1024x768 on hw capable of more (i suspect the vesa implementation is limited)02:41
nikkiaand if you're using fb, then it'll be limited to whatever the fb starts up as on boot02:41
Phantom^^hmm nikkia i thought i had installed the nvidia drivers last night02:42
Phantom^^i mean theres loads nvidia stuff in xorg.con02:42
nikkiaphantom, check that your driver is set to nvidia in the xorg config02:42
nikkiaif it is, you might want to turn off EDID and see if that fixes it02:42
nikkiaiirc, the nvidia driver install automatically puts in a commented out EDID configuration line02:42
Phantom^^hmm where do i see if the nvidia driver is set in xorg.conf02:43
Phantom^^what line is it ?02:43
nikkiai have a 23" LCD here that only reports 640x480 via EDID, so i have to disable EDID when i want to use that LCD02:43

Phantom^^it seems to be mad that i dont have certain fonts02:54
Phantom^^but nothing about modes etc02:54
nikkiaPhantom^^: can you paste all of it in a pastebin ?02:55
Phantom^^is there a kde config file where i can just tell it to use a given res02:55
nikkia!pastebin02:55
ubotuhmm... pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntulinux.nl/ http://ubuntu.pastebin.com/ or #flood02:55
Phantom^^ok02:55
Phantom^^shall i stick it in flood ?02:56
nikkiai'd prefer one of those 2 pastebin urls02:56
Phantom^^yeahi send it wiht php02:56
Phantom^^on the second url02:57
Phantom^^ok i think i pasted it ok02:57
nikkiathat can't be all of it, is it ?02:57
Phantom^^lol02:58
Phantom^^yeah02:58
Phantom^^i forgot how less worked 02:58
Phantom^^you should have seen me try and install gentoo from stage 102:58
Phantom^^i was out of my league02:58
nikkiaan easier solution, might be to copy the file to /tmp and use kate02:58
Phantom^^i think i found something though02:58
Phantom^^about hoz refresh rates and modes02:58
nikkiathat would do it02:59
Phantom^^how do i select02:59
Phantom^^all the log file at once to pasted it02:59
nikkia?02:59
nikkiaas i said, cp the file from /var/log to /tmp02:59
nikkiathen use kate, to read it, select all, and copy02:59
Phantom^^ok03:00
nikkiathere is a way to load an entire file to the clipboard from the command line, but i can never remember it03:00
Phantom^^ok03:02
nikkiayeah, your hsync is wrong03:03
Phantom^^ok how do i fix this ?03:04
nikkiatry changing the second number in that line in xorg.conf to 8503:04
nikkiamost modern monitors handle 85kHz hsync03:04
Phantom^^HorizSync 28-4903:04
Phantom^^to -8503:04
nikkiaactually, you can just change it to the edid reported value03:04
nikkiaperhaps even just comment out the hsync and vsync lines, i think that forces X to use the edid supplied values03:05
nikkiawhich in your case are 43-72 and 55-7503:05
Phantom^^ok  so what do i do ?03:05
nikkiaup to you, you can comment those two lines out, and see if X picks up on the edid values, it should....03:05
Phantom^^ok03:05
Phantom^^so put # in front of them ?03:05
nikkiayeah03:06
Phantom^^and get rid of hte #03:06
Phantom^^i mean03:06
Phantom^^'03:06
nikkiaif that doesn't work, uncomment them again, and change the hsync line to 28-8503:06
Phantom^^ok i'll try the ctrl alt bckspc again03:07
nikkiaok03:07

Phantom^^i guess ill try and enter the vlaues manually03:13
Phantom^^or can i install my monitor03:13
Phantom^^like tell x what it is somehow03:13
nikkiaPhantom^^: i'd try setting those values manually first03:15
Phantom^^ok03:16
Phantom^^what were the ranges03:16
Phantom^^now thats intresting it has changed them for me03:16
Phantom^^but they are commented out03:16
Phantom^^maybe if i uncomment them it wil lwork03:17
nikkiatry it03:17
Phantom^^i also increase the vertical to 7503:17
Phantom^^cos i no this monitor can do 75 Hz03:17
