[04:28] Well [04:28] Not much :) [04:29] well let's get to work! *snap, snap* :o) [04:29] I did make a few icons today [04:29] But nothing fantastic :) [04:30] Anyway, is the team really active ? [04:30] excellent. are you keeping in touch with andrew about getting them in the official package? [04:30] Hmm, not yet, actually I just began this [04:31] Couldn't really find someone to tell me what icons to make, since I'd like to concentrate on applications icons [04:31] we really need to be active. i think Jeff W's email on the list confirmed that. we've just been slacking off (probably my fault) while we waited for our server to be put in place. [04:31] Ah, right, I first to need to subscribe to this list :) [04:31] Maybe you could give me your opinion about my first icons ? :) [04:32] lllmanulll, are you on the mailing list? i don't see andrew in here very often, so that's probably the best way to get his attention. [04:32] I'll do that [04:32] mailing list is here - http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art [04:32] Actually I was working on code until now (for the gnome panel) [04:33] cool! [04:34] honestly, i'm not sure what the best way is to collaborate on the icons right this second. you almost have to ask andrew where he needs help. i know mime types are really lacking right now. [04:34] That's it, subscribed ! Thanks [04:35] excellent. [04:35] I also made these : [04:35] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GnomePanelEnhancementsIdeas [04:35] See bottom of the page [04:35] Any of them can actually be usable ? [04:36] quite possible. have you seen the "humility" icon theme that will be the default in breezy? [04:36] Yes, I'm using it right now [04:38] good, good. i think while we're waiting for CVS/subversion/whatever, the best thing to do is submit ideas (and links to examples if you have them) to the mailing list. if we run into a really pressing issue, we'll try to get everybody in here for a meeting. [04:39] All right, I might be posting the link above to the list, then ? [04:39] i actually got a laptop from canonical for the laptop testing team, and to use on the couch (really bad back problems). unfortunately i got a spankin' new laptop that Ubuntu doesn't like so far, so i haven't got much done lately. [04:40] yeah. i would post that link and say you created the icons at the bottom... then ask generally (or Andrew specifically) what areas in the icon set need the most work. [04:40] All right [04:42] Andrew is kinda like the boss of the icon set. i know that one major thing he strives for is to only use colors from the ubuntu palette - then do overlays of black and white transparency to do shading. that's probably his most strict "rule". [04:43] Ah right, my icons will probably need a bit of color work then [04:45] probably a little. that's why i don't have much done either - it's not easy to restrict yourself to such a small palette! :) [04:45] Right... [04:46] hey miketech. are you awake in here? [04:49] i found out yesterday that Canonical HAS been working on our server, and that they're using art.gnome.org as the codebase for the website. "we have the technology. we can rebuild it". :) miketech, do you know what else we might need to do to become a "repository" in your gnome-art app? === lllmanulll is now known as lllmanulll|Zzz === whiprush [n=jorge@64.62.190.212] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === klepas [n=klepas@203-213-31-142-act.tpgi.com.au] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [08:49] moin [08:50] volvoguy: ping [08:50] yo whiprush. [08:50] :-) [08:50] what's up? [08:50] thanks for clearing up the art team issue for me volvo [08:50] volvoguy: hust got your mail [08:51] lemme digest it [08:51] Yea [08:51] i do what i can. :) [08:51] I was the guy who asked [08:51] :-) [08:51] Sorry to hear about your back though [08:51] we're glad to have ya. [08:51] thanks. it sucks, but i'll live. :) [08:51] :-) [08:52] I'm new to helping out with Ubuntu [08:52] I've been reading through the wiki [08:52] i'll probably just need to disappear for about a month post-surgery. [08:52] especially in relation to joining, doing doc and art [08:52] ouch [08:52] volvoguy: heh, try ubuntu.secs.oakland.edu for an ubuntu mirror. :p [08:53] But yeah, I can provide anything you need. [08:53] svn, svn, or bzr, whatever. [08:53] er, cvs, svn, or bzr is what I meant to say [08:54] well, this group seems to be slow going right now. hopefully Jeff's comments will get people motivated. [08:54] I am here to help! [08:54] ditto [08:54] I know Andrew (the icon guy) and Jeff Waugh have talked about bazzar, but I have no idea what the status is right now. [08:54] So you don't go under until nov then right? Surely we can hang out before then. [08:54] bazzar? [08:55] http://www.volvoguy.net is heavily outdated... [08:55] yep. november 4th. i get to be cut open and turned into the bionic man. well... some screws and steel cables in my spine. that's better that missing discs though i think. [08:55] last blog entry october last yea [08:56] volvoguy: we should meet irl soon then. [08:56] Our loco has like 30 people [08:56] we could help. [08:56] klepas, yeah.... when i get the time to work on the computer these days i'm using working on artwork or laptop (curses) stuff. [08:57] curses or courses? :-) [08:57] whiprush, excellent. i'm sure i can manage something this weekend or next week. my schedule is clear until the surgery now i think. [08:58] klepas, curses. I got a Canonical laptop but it's too new for Linux. It has hardware RAID, SATA hard drives and a PCI express video card. none of which work with Ubuntu at the moment. [08:59] a canonical laptop - what exactly makes it a canonical one? [08:59] oh... and bazzar (from what i understand) is Canonical's own software versioning system like CVS, Subversion and the like. [08:59] volvoguy: next saturday we're doing an installfest at oakland to celebrate software freedom dasy [08:59] er, day [08:59] klepas, they bought it for me. :) [08:59] but we could meet earlier, I got a comfy, back-safe couch in my office. [08:59] whiprush, oooh. cool. i'll be there for that! [09:00] volvoguy: www.ubuntudetroit.org [09:00] couches work too. :) [09:00] ah, finally it's Friday [09:01] whiprush, nice... someone (maybe you?) mentioned the detroit site the day it launched i think and it was down at the time. i keep forgetting to visit. [09:01] heh [09:01] nice header. :) [09:01] well, dude we've got plenty of members in the area, if you need any kind of help then please ping me. [09:01] It's all about community [09:01] so if you need anything from us then let us know [09:02] we're here to help. [09:02] i appreciate it! i haven't been to an MDLUG meeting in years. :) [09:03] 2~heh [09:03] they kind of suck [09:03] you need to go to mug. [09:03] yeah. they kinda scared me. [09:03] don't worry dude, we're on a 2 year plan [09:03] hanging out in SGI's building was kinda cool though. [09:03] the plan is to become such a huge community that sabdfl has to visit us. [09:04] woohoo! [09:04] we do need to meet before nov though [09:04] you know, the next conference is in canada. [09:04] because I'm going to montreal for the next dev conference [09:04] cool. :) [09:04] so I need to get your concerns about whatever [09:04] so I can present them to the devs [09:04] when is that again? [09:05] first week of nov [09:05] doh! [09:05] shitty timing [09:05] either way, it's crappy that we haven't linked up yet. [09:05] you'd dig our loco, we got a good thing going on [09:05] sabdfl would have to pay my way anyway. although likely being involved in two teams now, i knew the medical stuff would screw it up. [09:06] do you mostly do stuff on OU's campus? [09:06] ya [09:06] we're doing lots of linux stuff now [09:06] cool. [09:06] my hope is that the U will fund a group to go to every ubuntu conference. [09:06] can you get me some scholarships? [09:06] :) [09:06] :p I wish [09:07] I'm thinking in the short term that we should link up and Do Great Things(tm) [09:07] and things like sponsorship end up taking care of themselves. [09:07] this workers comp stuff is a bunch of BS. before the surgery decision yesterday they were planning on handing me over to a vocational counselor to decide what jobs i could do with major pain and addicted to narcotics. yeah... right. [09:08] hey so you think you're healthy enough to meet sometime this week? [09:08] whoa. [09:08] I'm flexible to whatever needs you have [09:08] it might have to be a last-minute-play-it-by-ear kinda thing, but i'm sure i could manage something this week. [09:09] rocking. [09:09] we have lots to discuss. [09:09] klepas, yeah... i don't think i'd even want to work for the company that would hire me in this condition. [09:09] maybe find you some work that doesn't screw you over. :p [09:10] hey, if someone could help me beat this laptop into shape, i'd be happy. [09:10] volvoguy: I'm basically stuck at work for most of the time with the semester just starting, so just im or mail me and I'll round up the local ubuntu crew to wherever you want to meet. [09:10] volvoguy: for an idea of the sort of art I enjoy doing, and would like to do for Ubuntu (taking in mind their nice colour palette) see this - http://wombat.nuxified.com/work [09:10] as long as they have beer. [09:10] lol :-) [09:11] beer and narcotics are a nice mix. as long as you drive. ;) [09:11] we can arrange drives [09:11] that's the best part. :p [09:11] klepas, nice stuff! i dig the earthy tones. :) [09:11] yea [09:12] I actually use Suse and KDE the most [09:12] whiprush, where's the best place to IM you? [09:12] being the system I was first introduced to, have learned to hack somewhat and yea [09:12] but I love Ubuntu [09:12] :-) [09:13] klepas, when the art website opens, there will be a dedicated section for kubuntu. the best of both worlds. :) [09:13] volvoguy: jorge.castro@gmail.com for gtalk or whiprush on aim [09:13] jorge@whiprush.org or castro@oakland.edu for mail [09:13] hehe [09:13] nice [09:13] but I love gnome too [09:13] Ubuntu would be the system of choice for a laptop [09:14] whenever I get one [09:14] whiprush, added ya on AIM. I'm awaite32 there. [09:14] :-) [09:14] okey [09:14] man dude, suse. [09:14] it's like they try to turn off gnome users on purpose. [09:14] I like my Suse box. [09:14] Howcome? [09:14] the desktop is just not put together well [09:14] Suse's Gnome has a lot of cool features [09:14] none of the icons match [09:14] the menus are a mess [09:14] Suse used to be really gnome-centric didn't it? [09:15] and they are trying to get Ximian on Suse [09:15] vovloguy: yea, years back though [09:15] i actually BOUGHT SuSE Pro about a week before the Warty preview came out. doh! [09:15] lol [09:15] heh [09:15] what version? [09:15] 9.3? [09:15] :D [09:16] ummm. (looks for box propping up the printer) [09:16] volvoguy: we're a suse mirror now too, opensuse.secs.oakland.edu [09:16] cool [09:16] yea, opensuse is just sweet [09:17] i forget. it was the first release after the novell buyout. [09:17] the release date for Suse 10 (yep, from 9.3 to 10.0!! :-D ) has been moved closer by weeks at a time due to the massive input by the opensuse project [09:17] ah, 9.2 if I recall correctly [09:17] wow. you mean opensource works?! hehe. [09:17] heading to bed [09:17] nite guys [09:17] ok. catch you soon whiprush! [09:18] ok [09:18] hope to meet you soon! [09:18] ditto. [09:18] yeah. 9.2 sounds about right. [09:18] nn whiprush :-) [09:19] it took them so long to deliver it that they upgraded me from standard to pro... but by the time it got here i was already using Ubuntu and I never even installed it. [09:20] but it's all good. i've been using linux for almost ten years, so it was about time they got a little money from me. :) [09:21] yeah... i definitely like your color schemes klepas. [09:22] hehe [09:22] yea [09:22] we usually purchase every major release [09:22] 8.x, 9.x [09:23] i remember installing slackware entirely from floppies. man i feel old. [09:23] whoa! [09:23] hey, just a quick question [09:24] sure. [09:24] I've got a friend on the line who knows his fair share of PHP and MySQL etc. [09:24] I asked him whether he was interested in helping out on art.ubuntu.com [09:24] he just wants to know how much there is to do [09:24] and if he could do only a bit [09:24] [if there was heaps[ [09:25] well, i don't have access to the server directly yet myself, so i haven't seen the damage yet. the "definitely not live" site is sitting here right now - http://69.60.114.112/ [09:26] yup [09:27] from what i've heard, submissions aren't actually making it to the database yet, and therefore don't get displayed anywhere. [09:27] I've got to run [09:27] sadly [09:27] gave my friend the url [09:27] he'll have a look [09:28] ok. i'm going to try to be around quite a bit this weekend. we'll talk soon. [09:28] sure [09:28] I intend to check back [09:28] thanks again [09:28] expect a reply on the mailing list soon [09:28] and by Sunday I hope to have done a splash screen image [09:28] or 2 [09:28] :-) [09:29] excellent! check the archives too.... someone submitted a pretty cool GDM spash concept. [09:30] yea, saw that [09:30] it look awesome [09:30] I might build on from it [09:30] cool. [09:30] any idea where I can get the source for that file? [09:30] (gimp xcf for eg.) [09:30] ask on the list. i don't know if the author is sharing yet. [09:31] yup [09:31] anyhoo [09:31] we need to get a good bootsplash going too. the current one is frightening.
