Is that what it is called a Fat Client? Thanks. [03:51] no, a fat client would not include LTSP at all [04:01] magnon: what I meant was a Thick Client described in http://www.edubuntu.org/WorkstationDefinitions but I guess it is the same thing you said, it would not include LTSP, correct? [04:02] it would be something like an Ubuntu installation with extra edu-software [04:02] later, possibly integration towards a common user database etc. [04:03] The thing is with that setup the software, kernels etc are all on a server witch makes things easier to update, because everything would be in one place. [04:03] dcrm-libr, thats a target for the next release, this time we concentrate on having a good base for future releases [04:04] traget for this releases is a standalone one classroom ltsp setup out of the bix [04:04] box [04:04] Ahh ok thanks I can't wait =) [04:06] next release should include centralized user and software management and probably a cluster filesystem... i personally would like to add the ability to cluster ltsp servers, but that will depend on the time i have for the newx release cycle [04:06] s/newx/next/ [04:10] That LTSP setup requires much more memory and cpu from the server box witch can bee expensive. Currently where I work we don't have server that powerful and with as much as 64mb ram and the workstations are more modern but lack ram (only 256mb) so a LTPS server is out of the question I think. A thick client would with one of the workstations as a nfs server would do the trick however, I think. I'll wait for the next release. Thanks. [04:12] you can do a standalone workstation install indeed, its just not the default install... [04:12] Yes I known :) thanks [04:13] and centralized user management etc needs to be done separate, we have no integrated solution yet [04:13] workstation at boot prompt from the cd [04:13] yup :) [04:14] you could do a ubuntu install as well and install edubuntu-desktop on top... thats the same :) [04:14] ok well I'll bee gone now thanks for the enlightenment ;) [04:14] bye :) [04:14] bye === poningru [n=poningru@n128-227-27-143.xlate.ufl.edu] has joined #edubuntu === P3L|C4N0 [n=gcamposm@200.106.9.235] has joined #edubuntu === yvesC [n=yves@81.56.207.189] has joined #edubuntu === spacey [n=spacey@flits101-191.flits.rug.nl] has joined #edubuntu === spacey [n=spacey@flits101-191.flits.rug.nl] has joined #edubuntu === bdoin [n=coudoin@bla31-1-82-228-70-121.fbx.proxad.net] has joined #edubuntu === doko_ [n=doko@dsl-084-059-088-000.arcor-ip.net] has joined #edubuntu === Log-OS [n=Log-OS@194.84.5.222] has joined #edubuntu === jeang [n=jeang@c4-dbn-32.absamail.co.za] has joined #edubuntu === jeang [n=jeang@c4-dbn-32.absamail.co.za] has left #edubuntu [] === LinuxJones [n=willy@blk-222-89-108.eastlink.ca] has joined #edubuntu === jsgotangco [n=jsg@203.172.2.57] has joined #edubuntu === cyphase [n=cyphase@adsl-68-125-49-186.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net] has joined #edubuntu === bdoin [n=coudoin@bla31-1-82-228-70-121.fbx.proxad.net] has joined #edubuntu === ogra [n=ogra@p5089FBD7.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #edubuntu === jsgotangco [n=jsg@info1-111.info.com.ph] has joined #edubuntu === yvesC [n=yves@81.56.207.189] has joined #edubuntu === Grant_ [n=grant@85-210-170-12.dsl.pipex.com] has joined #edubuntu === Seveas [n=seveas@seveas.demon.nl] has joined #edubuntu === ogra [n=ogra@p5089FBD7.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #edubuntu === yvesC [n=yves@81.56.207.189] has joined #edubuntu [08:29] ogra, gcompris 7.0.1 is out.
