[10:33] maybe this is just a logging forum... so let me try to just explain === JaneW [n=JaneW@wbs-146-189-29.telkomadsl.co.za] has joined #ubuntu-kernel [10:35] i've tried to install breezy colony 5 (last version I downloaded was at 18:30) three times and each time it has bombed out [10:35] my specs are as follows: Compaq V2000Z, AMD Turion 64, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD, and 2.0GB processor speed [10:35] each time I'm told the following error: [10:35] Base system installation error [10:36] the debootstrap program exited wtih an error (return value 1) [10:36] Check /target/var/log/bootstrap.log for details [10:36] i press continue [10:37] and i get installation step failed [10:37] when does it give you that "Base system installation error"? [10:37] an installation step failed. You can try to run the failing item again from the menu....yada yada yada [10:37] when it is trying to install the base system === Yagisan [n=jamie@60-240-38-8.tpgi.com.au] has joined #ubuntu-kernel [10:38] it doesn't seem like a kernel issue offhand, more of an installer issue, but I can't be sure unless you divulge the contents of /target/var/log/bootstrap.log [10:38] how do i get there from here crimsun [10:39] if you have a fat32 partition on the drive, you can mount it and copy the bootstrap.log to it [10:39] crimsum ok... [10:39] let me try [10:40] actually i do not.. i only have an ntfs partition [10:41] have you tried any other breezy install/live cds? [10:41] e.g., preview, colony 4, colony 3, ... [10:41] let me clarify: I installed it once before about an hour ago... and i got a kernel issue... tritium tried to help me again by asking to download another ISO [10:42] yes... breezy install... 5.04... and each time those versions give me a problem with my video card [10:42] only in the last two days has it given me problems with the kernel [10:42] so you installed Hoary (5.04), and it worked fine until 2 days ago? [10:42] crimsun, i might be in the wrong channel... [10:43] I think you might be unless you can point to a kernel problem, like an OOPS [10:43] crimsun, i could have earlier... i'm sorry... my mistake :) [10:43] no prob [10:43] have a good evening/morning/afternoon :) === linner [n=kelley@71.243.221.228] has left #ubuntu-kernel ["Leaving"] === TheMuso [n=luke@dsl-202-173-132-131.nsw.westnet.com.au] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === Yagisan [n=jamie@60-240-38-8.tpgi.com.au] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-024.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-024.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-024.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === lamont [n=lamont@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === mkrufky [n=mkrufky@user-12lcl1s.cable.mindspring.com] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === mkrufky [n=mkrufky@user-12lcl1s.cable.mindspring.com] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko_ [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === doko__ [n=doko@dhcp-sn38-013.hrz.uni-oldenburg.de] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === Yagisan [n=jamie@60-240-38-8.tpgi.com.au] has left #ubuntu-kernel [] === mkrufky [n=mk@user-12lcl1s.cable.mindspring.com] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === BenC [n=bcollins@debian/developer/bcollins] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === mkrufky [n=mk@user-12lcl1s.cable.mindspring.com] has left #ubuntu-kernel []
