gdhChambers`: honestly, how hard is it to type 'par2repair nameof.par2' ?12:38
Chambers`gdh: it's not, but it'd be nice to have a gui that it would check and repair if needed12:39
Chambers`how hard would it be to make one is the question? :P12:39
gdhYou could associate par2repair with .par2 files and have it keep the terminal window open...12:39
Chambers`either no one uses par2 files that uses linux or no one cares12:40
inc|freakyseth_k: would you recommend upgrading to the kde3.5 beta?12:40
gdha GUI for this task is completely unnecessary :)12:40
Chambers`no way, quickpar for windows is a really nice prog12:40
gdhChambers`: Linux users generally don't have the fixation with having absolutely everything clicky-clicky..12:40
gdhI know, I've used Quickpar.12:40
Chambers`gdh: i know :)12:40
Chambers`linux users like command line...hmm, maybe i could make a bash script for them12:41
Chambers`that would be nice12:41
gdhIt's just a lot handier to 'screen' an nzbget, par2repair, unrar, mount an ISO all remotely etc.12:41
=== grump [i=jason@fear-and-loathing.org] has joined #kubuntu

seth_kinc|freaky, it's worthwhile imo12:43
inc|freakyseth_k: ill install it now ... hopefully it will break nothing. one more question: if i install it, and in one week the stable release comes out, it becomes automatically updated? and if i update to breeze, can i then just take out the mirrors?12:43
gdhthe tools should all set sensible returncodes...12:43
seth_kinc|freaky, no showstopper bugs and lots of fixes12:43
seth_kinc|freaky, I wouldn't do it until you update to breezy tho12:43
inc|freakyyea im not updating to breezy12:43
inc|freakyseth_k: are you running breezy? if yes, are there any problems while doing upgrades if it dist-upgraded once?12:44
seth_kinc|freaky, i've been running breezy since the day after hoary was released12:45
inc|freakyoh ic you always run testing12:45
inc|freakybreezy is testing right?12:45
seth_kinc|freaky, usually you'll need to do a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" to get X back after the upgrade12:45

inc|freakydo i have to reinstall the nvidia driver?12:45

nikkiacyne: *shrug* i personally, prefer to just 'import' from gimp, using a seperate app to extract the image, then having to run gimp anyway to crop/resize/touch-up would just irritate me11:47
buzpersonally i just stick my CF card into the reader, copy the images from it and never look at them again11:47
cynenikkia: sure if you can wait for gimp to load with every image11:47

nikkianalioth: its for a UI for a project i'm working on (in my spare time)11:56
naliothnikkia: looks fine to me (may make it my desktop background11:56
nikkiagod-zero: my main reservation about SVG is that you either go with a fairly flat-ish basic interface element, or you have a several dozen k svg object that is going to be slower to render, it just entirely depends on what your interface is trying to achieve tho11:57
god-zeroI'm really interested in qt4/kde4 with all the SVG stuff. I hope we can off load the work to the GPU.11:57
nikkiafor simple interfaces (say, a replacement for a Qt theme for buttons, etc) it will work ok, but for 'photo-realistic' interfaces it won't cut it11:58

cyneand call dpkg to install it12:29

insanekaneanyone know the command to regenerate vmlinuz ?12:31
insanekanesomething to do with reading /modules/* to generate it ?12:31
god-zeroI know about alien.. I was wondering why we use apt for 99% of things... but in odd places we use dpkg... 12:32
insanekanegod-zero: apt uses dpkg too12:32
gdhgod-zero: in the ideal world, apt works with retrieving updates and installing new software from remote locations, dpkg works solely on the local package-base 12:32
gdhapt is a nice frontend to resolve dependencies.. you *could* get by using only dpkg and wget'ing .deb files manually, but there's no need to12:33

Kamping_Kaiserapokryphos: i think you have a script to do !blah for you03:25
dell500anyone know how to split the desktop into 2 for dual monitors? 2 crts, xorg.conf might need more options i think03:25
Kamping_Kaiseryour way to quick otherwise ;)03:25
dell500lol03:26
nikkiadell500: you need to enable xinerama03:26
dell500i thought xinerama didn't work03:26
apokryphosKamping_Kaiser: nah, that was 13 seconds. I haven't been on IRC for some time, that's why 8)03:26
orace|what's dapper?03:26
dell500i've got an ATI 9600xt03:26
apokryphos!dapper03:26
ubotuI heard dapper is the 6.04 version of Ubuntu, statement by Mark Shuttleworth can be found here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=350378#post350378 .03:26
Kamping_Kaiserlol03:26
nikkiadell500: maybe not on an ATI card :)03:26
Blissexdell500: depends, there are a lot of dual monitor HOWTOs out there.03:26
nikkiaxinerama works on my nvidia cards tho03:26
orace|cool03:26
dell500well i've got 2 sections for both monitors03:27
nikkiadell500:  that will likely create 2 seperate X displays, both with their own screen03:27
Blissexdell500: sample configs here: http://WWW.sabi.co.UK/Cfg/X11/03:27
dell500not sure if there are some more options i might need03:27
dell500well it's like my res is really small, but it's double the size.... i have to use the mouse to "scroll" across the desktop, it sucks03:27
orace|cool03:28
Blissexdell500: thats because you configured the desktop size wrong.03:28
dell500aw i c03:28
Blissexdell500: or you configured the monitors wrong, so X cannot put them in a resolution to match that of your desktop.03:29
dell500is there a site i can load the conf file?03:29

dell500should I use all these server flags and such, they look nifty lol03:29
Blissexdell500: so if you configured your desktop to be 1280x1204 but the monitor is only configured to do 1024x768, then the virtual desktop will be 1280x1024 and you will scroll at the margins.03:29
Blissexdell500: this has nothing to do with a dual monitor setup... It happens with a single monitor too.03:30

dell500can i upload my xorg.conf file somewhere, like a code site or something03:31
apokryphosdell500: you can use a pastebin03:31
Blissexdell500: so to fix it specify the right vertical and horizontal frequencies in the sections describing the monitors.03:31
nikkia!pastebin03:31
ubotuhmm... pastebin is a site where you can post large texts and screenshots so you don't flood the channel. You can find it at http://paste.ubuntulinux.nl03:31
dell500Blissex, they are correct03:32
dell500for both monitors03:32
Blissexdell500: then look at the '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file to see why the virtual and the real monitor resolution are different.03:33
dell500aw, ok03:33
dell500i think simply logging out and then logging back in doesn't make a difference on how the xorg is loaded03:35
