delltonyquestion when installing kubuntu breezy i get the following error can't install initd tools. I installed winblows first on one partition and left the rest of the hd unallocated and went to install breezy on there this is how i'm having the issue when trying to install the base system.12:15
=== juju [n=juju@137.139.119-80.rev.gaoland.net] has joined #kubuntu
gstrockcan't install initd tools... hmmm... I just helped a co-worker, her install borked on base system, seems she was trying to install it into a fat32 partition.  Probably not your problem, I'm just throwing something out here.12:22
delltonyRiddell you around?12:22
Riddelldelltony: hi12:23
delltonyhey man have a question i hope you can help me with12:25
delltonyI had breezy up and running Kubuntu that is and all was fine but i needed windows for work so i did the following12:25
delltonyi hosed the drive and repartitioned it with a 9gig ntfs partition12:25
delltonyand the rest unallocated for linux12:26
delltonyi installed xp on the 9gig and then go to install kubuntu on the rest and all is good till i get to the base install and i get the old error that i seen in warty of can't install initrd-tools12:26
naliothdelltony: check your md5s12:26
delltonyjust out of curiousity how can i do that on a none linux system?12:27
Riddellmd5sum.exe12:27
Riddelldelltony: no idea I'm afraid, I'm not a windows user12:27
delltonyno thats fine nor am i that much12:27
Riddellbut asking in a general ubuntu place might help12:28
Riddelldelltony: what were you installing from?12:28
delltonyi'm with nalioth the cd might be bad in terms of md5sum12:28
delltonyfrom a cd i burned the preview blah blah breezy 12:28
delltonythe lastest one on the site as of yesterday12:28
naliothdelltony: check the md5 of both the iso image and the burnt cd-r12:29
delltonyok will do 12:29
delltonyill be home in about 2 hours and will let you know i[m at work right now 12:29
delltonythanks for the tip 12:29
naliothdelltony: and if the md5s check out on the disk, you might try burning it as slow as you can burn12:30
gstrockLinux can read and write fat32 so how come no one installs Linux on a fat32 partition?12:33
Blissexgstrock: the permission model is all different and inappropriate12:33
Blissexgstrock: however, there is an extension of the 'vfat' driver called 'umsdos' that works around that.12:34
Blissexgstrock: but I don't think many people have used 'umsdos' in the past five years.12:34
gstrockyeah, ok.  thanks12:34

cyneflo, i don't remember12:34

flocyne: in your kernel source folder you have a .config file where the kernel options are set. You can see if it is set to YES or commented out 12:35
