[12:35] <volvoguy> what i'm thinkin', and maybe ogra can help us with this eventually, is to put together an "ubuntu-artwork-extras" package for universe until we have a nifty app for ubuntu that pulls stuff off art.ubuntu.com.

[12:42] <klepas> and then open the ports
[12:42] <klepas> and show this to the art team
[12:42] <klepas> give the current admins of AUC admin access 
[12:42] <volvoguy> yeah. i kinda know what you mean. we were in a rush to get a site up, and theirs looked cool - unfortunately we didn't really know how it worked behind the scenes. 
[12:43] <klepas> and see what people think about perhaps putting this sort of CMS on AUC

[12:43] <klepas> because the more we use the art-web system the more dependant we will make ourselves

[12:44] <volvoguy> i don't know if we'd be able to get canonical to switch at this point or not. one of the big deals with that AGO code is that it's backend easily ties in with the gnome-art app (and presumably other apps, although gnome-art cvs versions already can access our site).

[12:46] <klepas> i know that KDE has made an app that interacts with KDE-look
[12:46] <klepas> namely their wallpapers
[12:46] <klepas> i can click on my desktop, go tot configure and click "get more wallpapers"

[12:46] <volvoguy> gnome-look.org is almost overkill, but i agree that ubuntu's popularity may be more than our current system can handle. it requires lots of adimin time.

[12:47] <klepas> and the GNOME-look type CMS is so much more powerful
[12:47] <volvoguy> yeah. that's what gnome-art does - with wallpaper, themes, icons - you can preview, download and install right from the app.

[12:48] <klepas> we could easily adapt some of the code which KDE uses to interact with KDE-look
[12:48] <klepas> for AUC, if we used the same CMS
[12:49] <volvoguy> well, except most of ubuntu doesn't use kde. ;)
