moquistI'm new to packaging, and I've used dh_make and dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot on the game 'apricots'.  dpkg-buildpackage seems to build [almost?]  everything, and then it errs out.  http://paste.ubuntulinux.nl/d4452 shows the error I'm getting; I don't understand why fakeroot isn't taking care of the "Permission denied" problem.06:16
Amaranthmoquist: #ubuntu-motu is probably better for packaging help06:17

feugan3333Amaranth: What I really want to do is build a package with debug information included. I don't think there is any way to do this with apt, dpkg, etc. I would just download the source from the packages site and then build it that way. But I'm having trouble getting this to work. So I'd like to see what was done to get the package to build on ubuntu.06:45
Amaranthah, well, that's easier06:46
crimsunremove the call to dh_strip06:46

slomo_\sh: it only means that we have to care for it for the remaining time of 0.8.204:56
\shslomo_: our package is 0.8.2-0ubuntu1 debian is 0.8.2-1 and we will have 0.8.2-1ubuntu104:57

MannyI'm not sure whether to ask here or in #ubuntu-motu...I'm supposed to get Ubuntu play nicely with ThinkPads. It looks like most of the software is available already (kernel, xorg drivers for the special mouse device etc.). Whom do I have to contact to get the packages into ubuntu, and which packages are suitable? Is there an additional laptop-related driver package, or should this go into stock xorg/stock kernels?07:03
Mannyby stock I mean the stock ubuntu packages, not the stock tarball07:03
Mannyfor instance, http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/touchpad/2.6.11/ has a kernel patchset. Am I supposed to just file a bug report an lean back?07:04
lifelessManny: I suggest you file bugs for all of them07:06
lifelessManny: and then depending on the reaction you may need to do new packages, put patches in existing packages etc07:07
Mannylifeless, thanks07:07
lifelessManny: also, if you think a patch to an existing package is appropriate, do that when you file the bug07:07
Mannylifeless, new bugs through launchpad, right?07:07
lifelessManny: that way the person getting it can decide to just apply the patch :)07:07
Mannylifeless, so I should try them out and compile them by hand first?07:07
lifelessManny: re launchpad for new bugs, I don't know if the transition happened yet.07:08
Mannythe problem with hardware-related patches is always that WFM doesn't mean works for all07:08
lifelessManny: I would file the bugs first. That way discussion starts now,.07:08

Mannyhrm you seem to use a driver called cPad. http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/touchpad/2.6.11/ has patches for alps stuff, though. The alps.c file is almost not touched with the current kernel diffs.07:28

mdkei wonder if there is something wrong with the mailing list10:44
mdkeevery SINGLE time I post to it and someone replies, I get two copies, one from the list and one from the sender10:44

danielslook at the To field10:45
danielsit10:45
daniels'll have you and the list both there10:45
mdkeit has me in the to field, and the list in Cc10:45
mdkeit only happens on -devel10:45

mdkethe mailing list shouldn't be sending me mail where I am in the to field, iirc10:46
mdkefor example, on the -doc list, people reply-to-all constantly, and I never get two copies10:46
mdkeonly on -devel10:46
neuralismdke, that's a configurable mailman setting which most list admins do not turn on.10:46

danielsreply-to-list is crack10:46
mdkedaniels, it's not reply-to munging, it is just the list doesn't send the person mail if they are in the to field10:47
mdkeit's a pain getting two copies of everything10:47
danielsthere's a very common procmail recipe you can find that caches message-ids and throws away duplicates10:48

neuralismdke, no, actually it looks i was misremembering. mailman has a "do not send members a copy of their own post" switch, and i thought i saw a "do not send members a copy of replies for which they're in the To/CC field", but i was wrong.10:55
mdkewell something must do it, because -devel is the only list I get two copies of peoples' mails10:56
neuralismdke: do the other lists have explicit reply-to headers set?10:56
