gdganii really need a new kernel for breezy...2.6.13 at least ...how can i get it ?01:48
jbaileygdgani: Newer kernels are not supported on breezy.  Best to pull it from dapper.01:51
jbaileyIf it breaks, though, please upgrade all the way to dapper before reporting bugs.01:51
gdganiwich kernel is in dapper01:51
gdgani?01:52
jbailey2.6.12 is the default, but 2.6.15 has been uploaded.01:52
crimsun2.6.15-rc1 + $stuff01:52
gdganii can only get it via apt-get ?01:53
gdganii have an acer turion laptop..and having proble with timer..i think a newer kernel will solve it01:54

ispikedmjg59: is there anything in the new kernel that would make sata resume from suspend work (better)?03:52
mjg59ispiked: What hardware are you on where it doesn't?03:52

mjg59ispiked: Uhm. Is this a desktop or a laptop?03:54

ispikedI'm not sure what type of HDD they put in it.03:55
mjg59Should work absolutely fine with the stock kernel in Breezy03:55
mjg59(My D610 does)03:55
ispikedmjg59: when did you get yours?03:56
mjg59August03:56
mjg59The HDD type shouldn't matter03:56
ispikedmjg59: it has an SATA HDD?03:56
mjg59No, it's a PATA drive on a SATA bridge03:56
mjg59I don't think anyone's actually using SATA drives in laptops yet03:56
mjg59What sort of failure are you seeing?03:57

ispikedit fails when it tries to resume.03:57
mjg59Ok, suspend to disk has nothing to do with SATA03:58
ispikedreally?03:58
mjg59Try removing the splash argument from the kernel command line and see if that works03:58
mjg59Yeah, the controller is reconfigured by the kernel03:58

infinityYou could be suspending to paper, for all it cares.05:29
infinityPrint out memory state, reboot, kernel re-inits hardware, you type in old state, life goes on.05:30

zoltanhi - the #ubuntu-bugs guys suggested I try here with my query (so much for the hug ;-)  )06:44
zoltanOK I've got an issue with all the breezy -smp kernels. I have to disable APIC in the BIOS otherwise the boot hangs. It is on an MSI 945g NEOM/B with an Intel dualcore 830 CPU. There are noe BIOS upgrades available from MSI so I'd like to know if anyone else has similar issues.  Oh - disabling APIC (note *NOT* ACPI) means I only run on 1 of the cores06:44
BenCwhere does the boot hang?07:10
zoltanHi Ben - just trying to get a private chat with you - no need. It hangs (IIRC) around the PS/2 keyboard message - and the kyb is dead - I have to hit reset. I'd need to reboot this box to confirm that, though.07:11

infinityBenC : Did 4.4 include the move to update-initramfs?07:31
infinityBenC : If not, pretty please, with sugar on top, do so for 4.5.07:31
BenCupdate-initramfs has to come from kernel-package, since it installs the post/pre inst scripts07:31

infinityzoltan : You should update anyway for the security fix, but in your case, -10- won't fix anything for you.  Of course, an unbootable machine is the most secure machine of all, so you could see this as the ultimate security fix...07:39
