pussfellerhow can i get a 2.6.13 kernel without compiling it manually05:51

kalenedraelWell, you should look through it and select what you need and what you don't need.05:54
pussfellerthats what I am trying to avoid :)05:55
pussfelleri was thinking, put dapper in my sources, get that kernel only, and then return to breezy and reboot05:55

pussfellerah hah05:56

kalenedrael(if it exists, which it should)05:57
pussfelleri can diff them and see what new stuff is in 2.6.1305:57
pussfellerand paste it or patch it05:57
crimsunDapper's 2.6.15 depends on a lot of infrastructure than isn't in Breezy05:57
crimsunit's generally not a problem if you avoid using modules; otherwise you'll have a difficult time with the udev New World Order in Breezy05:58
crimsun(since, well, the udev isn't new enough in Breezy)05:58
pussfellerthtas why I didnt do it :)05:58
pussfellercrimsun: you think they will release a 2/6/13 kernel anytime soon?05:59
crimsunpussfeller: for Breezy? No. Nothing new save security fixes (generally).06:00
pussfellerok06:00

FHXCould someone help me out? i've run into some trouble while installing Kubuntu11:40
HobbseeFHX: ask your question, then we'll see if someone knows the answer :P11:40
FHXHehe okay, well what happens is I tried installing hte Cd when booting11:40
FHXI'm not partitioning, but erasing the entire hard drive. But it errored, so I re-burned the CD on anothe rcomputer properly, slow and everything and checked the images, then tried it again, and it failed. Then I tried it a third time and now when I go to partitions step it only allows me to manually edit the tables11:41
FHXwhat should I do?11:41
Hobbsee*rereads*11:42
Hobbseeyou can do a manual edit, delete all the current partitions, then say "do it automatically"11:42

apokryphosrzei: it's odd, since the login screen won't obey any settings in krandrtray -- the only real way, a lot of the time, is to make it so that it's the only option in your xorg.conf12:12

yahaa_sweIf I update my kernel will the new one then replace the old one or will I be able to choose which one I wanna use?11:27
nemZeusz, url?11:28
[Zeusz] http://kubuntu.pastebin.com/48080211:29
nemyahaa_swe, do you mean recompile or downloading a compiled kernel with apt?11:29
yahaa_swedownload compiled with apt11:30
nemyahaa_swe, it will be available as a seperate item in your grub menu11:31
KnowerrorsIf I move my /home to another partition, what do I need to edit to tell ubuntu where to look for it? just fstab? or is this very involved?11:32
yahaa_sweok, anyway to remove the old one?11:32
nemZeusz, I'm 99% sure you're problem will be solved by using the latest alsa, but that's not available precompiled yet. there was a conversation about this here just a few minutes ago though, i'll pastebin it to you, hope it helps.11:32

nemZeusz, http://kubuntu.pastebin.com/48081511:34
nemyahaa_swe, edit the grub menu and delete the respective kernel image from your /boot (but double check that you remove the one belonging to the removed grub entry ;))11:35
[Zeusz] ok thank you11:35

nemyahha_Swe, e.g. if your old kernel is 2.6.12-9 and the new one is 2.6.12-10, delete the files containing "2.6.12-9" in the /boot dir and alter the /boot/grub/menu.lst accordingly.11:38

`NomadHi.. Could someone help me with installing a Samsung Printer driver in Kubuntu, KDE 3.5?  I'm missing a simple permission issue with CUPS I think11:43
`Nomadbut I can't figure it out11:43
nem`Nomad, just ask the actual question11:45
`NomadI have a Samsung ML-2010 that comes with it's own drivers..  Using their install, I get prompted for an admin password while trying to add the printer.. I can't get that authentication accepted to continue.11:46

`NomadI gave root a password, and also to cupsys which is what cupsd runs under11:46
`Nomadbut when I try those as teh admin names and password I get rejected11:47
nem`Nomad, sorry, not familiar with samsung. maybe someone else is or you could try #ubuntu, doesn't sound like a very kde specific problem to me.11:48
`NomadSeems like a CUPS authentication problem to me11:48

`NomadI wish I could make out what the printer drivers are on teh CD and use them directly.. The printer works fine if I do a regular install and use an older model of Samsung printer, but I woudl like to use the multiple-pages per sheet feature which will come with the right drivers11:50
nem`Nomad, but CUPS ain't limited to KDE... it's used with gnome as well :)11:51
