kalenedraelI must say it's the first time I heard of people doing what you did :P05:20
matt_well I did it because every time I tried to use the scanner on my epson multi-function it said that usblp had controll of the USB port but when I removed the module it worked fine.  I built usblp and usb_storage into the kernel and the problem was gone.05:22
jsubl2sounds like a valid reason to build then in05:23

jsubl2but,  streamlined hand built kernel normaly will make things faster especially on boot up.. it is just tough to include everything needed05:25

ShadymanNo.05:46
Elessar86lol05:46
Elessar86how do i combine partitions05:46
Elessar86i just made one for linux, but when i go to install, it doesnt allow me to use the partition i made, or i dunno how to tell it to use it05:47
Shadymanonce you select the partition, you have to assign it a mount point05:47
Shadymanso, if it's a linux partition, make it "/"05:47
Elessar86how do i do that05:47
Elessar86i have 2 partitions05:48
ShadymanAre you using the install CD?05:48
Elessar86and i can see the one i made05:48
Elessar86yeah i have it on disc05:48
Elessar86all i want to do is make it install on the new partition05:48
ShadymanWhen you're installing, set it to "configure my partitions manually"05:48
Elessar86yeah, i did that05:48
Elessar86and it shows both partitions05:48
Shadymanand then go over the one you set for linux, and hit Enter05:49
Elessar86bah, mandrake was so much easier05:49
ShadymanElessar86: So was fedora.05:49
Elessar86yeah05:49
Elessar86i didnt like mandrake though05:49
ShadymanOnce you do that, change "Mount Point" to "/" or "root"05:49
Shadymanwhichever it shows.05:49
Elessar86ok05:49
Elessar86well, where do i change the mount point05:49
Shadymanyou should be able to select the partitions with the cursor?05:50
Elessar86jsut arrow keys05:50
Shadymanwell, yeah.05:50
Shadymanyou should be able to select the partitions with the arrow keys?05:50
Elessar86yeah05:50
Shadymanselect the linux one and hit Enter05:50
Elessar86yeah05:50
Elessar86and thne i see like bootable flag05:50
Shadymanthen it gives you some options05:50
Elessar86i changed that and made the mistake :P05:50
Shadymanhehe05:51

Elessar86sry, im not good wit hthis stuff05:53
ShadymanOk, so when you go in to edit manually, it'll show you the different partitions05:53
Shadymanyou select the linux one by highlighting it and hitting enter05:53
Elessar86i can supposedly install a new OS with PM 8...05:53
ShadymanDoubtful.05:53
Elessar86ok05:53
Elessar86but yeah, i select linux part. and then what05:54
Shadymanthen you set hda5 to "format" and make it ext305:54
Shadymanand set its mount point to "/"05:54
Elessar86ok...05:54
Shadymanthen you should be OK.05:54

Elessar86and after it formats, make it ext305:55
Elessar86then mount is /05:55
Shadymanand a skull and crossbones beside ones that are05:55
Shadymanthose settings should all be in the menu, you do it all at once, then confirm, and it sets everything up05:55
matt_is it a good idea to use debian packages with kubuntu?05:55
Elessar86well, when the partitions come up, it shows a smile next to both partitions05:55

N6REJI'm having a problem..... I gave my daughter an account on my wifes machine and when she goes to enter her desktop she gets a pop-up that says "sound server informational message" /dev/dsp couldn't be started because she doesn't have permissions.  Its generated by arts.10:37
crimsunN6REJ: her user needs to be added to the 'audio' group10:38
crimsunN6REJ: by default only the first user is added to that group10:38

N6REJuh... I think the gigafast is both a switch and a router... it does Nat/firewall, port routing, ip tables, has 4 ports and then there is a wireless switch ( belkin :S ) ..10:56
N6REJthat is acting as a wireless acess point for some of the workstations.10:56
tid-wavewell then make sure UDP packets are routed10:56
N6REJtid-wave: even though I don't want them OUTSIDE the lan??  all the machines are nat'd to the 192.168.123.x Class C10:57
tid-wavethat could be a problem10:58
tid-waveyou NAT only for external connections10:58
N6REJthe router provides the dhcp10:58
N6REJdhcp pool that is.10:58
tid-wavethere has to be a way to configure it10:59
tid-wavemake sure that internal connections are not address translated10:59
N6REJyeah, I'm sure there is.  the site doesn't provide docs.11:00

murph2481"/home"10:12

xtacocorexLiGhTeNiN: are you adding your network card when you run dhclient?10:14
