DaSkreechOh wiat03:18
DaSkreechI did it on the command line03:18
DaSkreechdoes apt-get have a log?03:18
NeoFaxIf so, it should be as easy as turn it on on the router and ktorrent will use it.03:18
fatejudgerNeoFax: no, they just came out with a UPnP plugin03:18
NeoFaxDaSkreech: No, but you could look at /var/lib/cache/apt/archives with ls -l and weed out all of the files that were downloaded yesterday.  That is if you do not have apt automatically cleaning this folder for you.03:20
DaSkreechAh brilliant :)03:20
NeoFaxfatejudger: So if your router does not support it it will not work.03:20
NeoFaxUPnp works by the router receiving a UPnp packet on specific ports and it automatically opening and closing ports based off of the packets coming thru.03:21

NeoFaxDaSkreech: I meant /var/cache/apt/archives03:22
fatejudgerNeoFax: right, which would allow a sort of dynamic port forwarding03:23
fatejudgerNeoFax: most routers support this03:23
fatejudgerNeoFax: but it doesn't seem to be working03:23
MttJocyI personally disabled UPnP and used azuerus which uses only one port, still not sure I would trust something like UPnP03:23
fatejudgerUPnP is great03:24
fatejudgerthat's just paranoia03:24
fatejudgerNeoFax: I just checked, my router supports UPnP 100%03:24
NeoFaxfatejudger: Does your router have logs that you can get to? This way you would be able to dynamically see the ports opening and closing.03:24
fatejudgerNeoFax: I don't understand why Ktorrent can't detect it03:24

MttJocyNeoFax, And I aggree with what you said about windows, but I am not sure I would even trust windows in the vacinity of the internet full stop03:27
NeoFaxHow so, fatejudger?03:28
MttJocyNeoFax, Do you have any ideas why a kubuntu system my friend has is saying export: command not found and how to get around it, I tried googling and did not see much being useful there in helping get him past this problem, maybe I am a bad searcher but I am not sure03:29
MttJocyI always thought export was built into bash so I have no idea how it could be not found03:30
fatejudgerNeoFax: I just cleared the log and looked at it03:30
fatejudgerNeoFax: I now see what's going on03:30
NeoFaxWhat exactly are you trying to do?03:30
fatejudgerNeoFax: the torrent port, 6881 is being denied and UPnP isn't working03:30
NeoFaxfatejudger: So, anything interesting?03:30
fatejudgerNeoFax: that still doesn't help me get UPnP working though03:30
MttJocyNeoFax, Trying to export the new GCC line, I have given him the GCC packages which are installed but ndiswrapper makefile is still saying gcc-3.4 not found03:31
fatejudgerNeoFax: I think it's blocking the UPnP requests03:32
fatejudgerNeoFax: it's blocking an ICMP on port 1303:32
fatejudgerNeoFax: I don't know why I have pinging disabled03:33
fatejudgerNeoFax: and it's blocking something on port 6070403:33
NeoFaxfatejudger: So, the UPnP on your router is on and it is denying port 6881?  That shouldn't do that.  You should have an originating packet from your pc on (I am assuming 6881) to the tracker.  The tracker then sends back a UPnP enabled packet to your router and it then opens the ports dynamically based on the trackers needs.03:33
NeoFaxMttJocy: So, when you do CC=gcc-3.4 && export CC you get the error?03:34
fatejudgerNeoFax: well it seems like everything is being denied by default since my access list isn't letting anything through03:34
MttJocyActually was doing export CC=gcc-3.4 but yes this is when he got the error03:34

NeoFaxUSB audio cards do not have hardware mixing04:59
koshNeoFax: if I have a card that can do 128 mixing at a time then why should I use another thing to do that mixing which will just slow down my system and add lag to the audio?05:00
NeoFaxStill, I would prefer hardware mixing for say the front two speakers and software for the rear instead of hardware mixed pump the same sound to all four speakers.05:00
koshI have a 7.1 sound setup05:00
NeoFaxkosh: You can disable dmix and dsnoop in the config, just like I do to enable it.05:01
koshand with amarok I use xine for 7.1 output05:01

NeoFaxWhen you close the laptop this send s an ACPI signal to the kernel.  Your laptop could have a badly written ACPI rom that does this.05:06
hawkinghmm so why didn't it happen on gnome then?05:07
hawkingneofax : actually there is an asus-acpi module that knoppix used05:08
hawkinghmm I found an asus-laptop-extras package05:10
NeoFaxgnome may not be configured to show ACPI faults.  Gnome probably wouldn't with their hitleristic view on desktops.  This is something that the root(sysadmin) would be monitoring and fixing not a desktop user.05:10
NeoFaxBTW ASUS has some of the worst ACPI roms on the planet.05:11

rjbbut i see there also exists an amd64-k8 linux-image11:34
rjbwould that work any better for me?11:35
divansantana_nicklas: You can if you really wanted to but its really not a good thing. There is no need. You do everything through kdesu or sudo read the wiki of sudo11:35

rjbdivas, the generic one seems to run pretty well11:43
rjbthe only thing i'm missing is that the machine doesn't wake up from sleep mode11:44
