nikitaHi guys =) I have some problems with my kubuntu =) sometimes when i install apllications (last time it happened to the macromedia flash player) my screen covers with colored scratches, so i cannot see/read anything. i think that's the problem with the video card, can anybody advise me how to fix that?02:35
shawkinsnikita are you using dapper or breezy?02:36
Phoenix1701sampan: I'll give that a look.  aplay -l shows me all sorts of lovely subdevices and whatnot for "sound card 1" (where 0 is presumably the onboard sound), but I don't know how to configure KDE to use that card...02:37

=== Phoenix1701 nods. And when you disabled the onboard sound, the other one just kind of started working?

sampanactually the onboard worked too, but i wanted multichannel hardware mixing (all sounds from all apps at the same time) without having to fiddle with software mixing settings -- so i flopped an 8 or 9 year old sblive card in there and it worked flawlessly from the get go. Phoenix1701I had to switch from ALSA to OSS and manually configure the device to /dev/dsp1 (not audio1 as I was thinking), but after all that it started working.03:35

=== lars_away is now known as larsivi
kkathmanC-O-L-T:  what are the specs of your computer?04:52
C-O-L-Tkkathman: 256 MB Ram, 1300 MHZ AMD DURON, 40 GB hard drive, 600 mb Swap Space, and a poor video card 32 MB04:53
`NomadC-O-L-T: Did you tuen off Java in the prefs?04:53

`NomadIt seems to help some people with slow OO04:54
C-O-L-T`Nomad: how and where to turn up04:54
C-O-L-Tturn off?04:54
kkathmanC-O-L-T:  the 256MB of ram is a bit low...rule of thumb, is that the older the machine, the more memory you need.  You might be running other things too04:54
`Nomadthat too04:54
C-O-L-TCome on guys don't tell me that I need more hardware to run OO and office suite????04:55
`NomadUnder Options, probably General tab04:55
kkathmanOO2 is a rather chunky program...so its needs lots of memory...I suspect that you are caching alot04:55

lagahi! i installed kubuntu-desktop on my ubuntu breezy badger. now i can't use the multimedia keys on my laptop anymore. it looks like the scripts in the acpi-support package turn them into fake X events. i can see them with Xev, but i can't use them, for example, to assign shortcuts to various kmix actions (e.g. lowering the volume)09:20
