minghuabmonty: oh I didn't realize we were talking on -devel.  anyway, I don't have time to look at this m17n bug right now, but I'll definitely look at it later (and maybe ask upstream)03:15
bmontyminghua: I think we are definately going to have to ask upstream since the current packages are supposed to work together03:17
bmontyminghua: oops, looks like we are slightly behind the debian version03:18
minghuabmonty: just for the record, this libm17n 1.2 + m17n-db 1.3 combination seems to break the scim-m17n in debian as well03:18
bmontyminghua: ok, do you have a good idea where the versions are of the packages between ubuntu and debian?03:19
bmontymaybe we should do a set of sync/UVF exceptions to get the latest versions into dapper03:19
bmontywhile we work the issue with m17n-db03:19
minghuabmonty: looking at that right now.  sid has: m17n-db 1.3.1-1, libm17n0 1.2.0-5.103:19

xerxasHi everyone01:58
xerxasit's bug day , so I'm looking at bugs, and I see a bug on package aqsis01:58
xerxasI see that:01:58
xerxasroot@panther:/home/xerxas# LANG=C apt-cache show aqsis |grep Maintainer01:58
xerxasMaintainer: Will Newton <will@debian.org>01:58
xerxasbut I can't subscribe that guy to the bug01:59
xerxaswhat shall I do ?01:59
azeemit's the Debian maintainer, why do you want to subcribe him?01:59
xerxasazeem: because I don't understand the process :)02:00
xerxasthis package have been taken directly from debian ?02:00
azeemno, it got modified by Ubuntu02:01
azeemsee the version02:01
azeemcheck its changelog to see who worked on it last time02:01
xerxasSo who is the ubuntu responsible for it ?02:01
xerxasok02:01
azeemMOTU?02:01
xerxasI just added a comment: there is missing the aqsis-lib package02:02
xerxasbut there's a package named aqsis-libc2a02:05
xerxasazeem: what should I do ?02:05
azeemI don't know about the proper procedure either, I just think you shouldn't bother the Debian guy unless you're sure he's intersted02:07
xerxasok02:07
azeemmaybe this one still needs transitioning for the last C++ update?02:08
xerxashe doesn't seem to be02:08

mcquaidi came here because i believe it's a package issue09:59
LaserJockmcquaid: check out https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/09:59
natroll-i pity the fool who messes with malone09:59
LaserJocknatroll-: ?09:59
natroll-mr-TLaserJock, nvm :)09:59
mcquaidfrom what i've read the error i get is a result of dri and my libgl not being in sync10:00
mcquaidand there are forum posts of others not being able to get voodoos to work with dri but no solution10:01
mcquaidso i think it's not user configuration error but that voodoo dri is broken in breezy10:01

mcquaidLaserJock, what am i supposed to be looking up at that site?10:03
LaserJockmcquaid: sorry, my bad. https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bugs has all the Ubuntu bugs10:04
LaserJockmcquaid: you can search there for you problem and see if it is a known bug10:04
mcquaidok just serached there, i see one tdfx bug but the error is not what i get and it's been fixed10:05
mcquaidi guess i'll submit a bug, but i'd hope i could resolve this instead of waiting awhile for a bug resolution10:06
mcquaidaccording to this site: http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DriTroubleshooting10:07
mcquaidthe error i get is because 'then your libGL is out of sync with your DRI drivers'10:08
mcquaidis there a way i can bring them in sync? like can i just compile the relevant parts of xorg?10:08
kelmodo you have libgl1-mesa-dri installed?10:09
kelmo(not sure if ubuntu is in sync with debian in this regard)10:09
kelmoand load GLCore in ya x conf10:09
mcquaidyes i have that installed10:10
mcquaidyes glcore in conf10:10
mcquaidxorg log files says everything is fine with dri enabled10:10
kelmowhat kernel version?10:11
mcquaidall the relevant modules are running. tdfx, drm10:11
mcquaid2.6.1210:11
kelmohmm10:11
mcquaidrunning glxinfo with verbose i see this error:10:12
kelmothe drm in that version may not be "in sync" with mesa10:12
kelmonot sure10:12
mcquaidthats what i've read is the issue10:12
mcquaidis there a way to tell?10:12
mcquaidso this could be resolved if i update to dapper for the new kernel?10:14
mcquaidand i think the packages aren't set up correctly because initially i get this error when running glxinfo:10:18
mcquaid/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)10:18
mcquaidand the dri directory isn't even there10:18
mcquaidthe tdfx_dri.so is located under /usr/lib/dri10:19
mcquaidso i tried making a sym link of dri and then i get this error:10:19
mcquaidlibGL error: dlopen /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so failed (/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so: undefined symbol: _glapi_add_dispatch)10:19
mcquaidand that error is what i've read on the dri troubleshooting guide meaning there aren't in sync10:20

mcquaidhmm i have a copy of libGL.so.1.2 thats seems to be not associated with any package.  no result is returned when running dpkg -S libGL.so.1.2 in /usr/X11R6/lib10:29
=== netzmeister [n=netzmeis@p549F8D01.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #ubuntu-motu
mcquaidi have previously installed the nvidia binary so I'm not sure if that got left behind.  but i used it's uninstaller10:29
mcquaidahh i'll just submit a bug10:32
=== natroll-mr-T solves it by sending you an nvidia 6800
natroll-mr-Tj/k ;-)10:34
LaserJockI might have a spare 5200  sitting around but I don't think that will do you any good10:35
=== redguy [n=mati@adf112.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl] has joined #ubuntu-motu
mcquaidi think a spare 5200 would do me nicely ;)11:02
LaserJockmcquaid: doubtful, I hardly play any games and it still suck11:03
kelmomcquaid: you said you uninstalled nvidia via its script right?11:04
mcquaidwell from what i remember a 5200 is roughly on par with a gf4ti4200 no?11:04
mcquaidyes11:04
mcquaidvia the script11:04
kelmothat represents a large problem in itself11:04
=== raphink [n=raphink@ubuntu/member/raphink] has joined #ubuntu-motu
mcquaidkelmo, how so?11:05
kelmoyou took control of those files that you mucked around with out of dpkg, and into your own hands11:06
=== zenrox [n=zenrox@71.115.198.118] has joined #ubuntu-motu
mcquaidi hear ya11:07
mcquaidany way to fix that?11:07
kelmoyou would need to --reinstall install some core xorg packages11:07
kelmoeven then, its never absolutely certain ; )11:08
mcquaidand that's if this is the source of my troubles, a few others on the forums seem to have similar troubles to mine11:09
mcquaidand i don't think they all came from a previous nvidia install11:09
kelmoits not main source, but you definately have some unneccessary obstacles11:09
mcquaidhmm, any suggestions on how to proceed?11:11
kelmowell, i have used dri only in conjunction with drm fron linux 2.6.15 and above11:13
mcquaidso are you saying a more recent kernel might help?11:13
kelmoi am saying; that is the scope of my experience ; )11:14
mcquaidah11:14
=== daox [n=Callum@S010600c049ee46c3.pk.shawcable.net] has joined #ubuntu-motu
mcquaidi guess i don't get how it all ties in. in the kernel there's the tdfx drm, then there's xorg tdfx (which i assume is the driver) then there's libglide3 which i think xorg uses via mesagl??11:18
mcquaidi've been googling this for 3 days now and haven't got any further11:18
mcquaidwell the first weird problem is glxinfo states libGL is looking for tdfx_dri.so in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri11:29
mcquaidand dri doesn't even exist11:29
mcquaidi symlinked it to where dri exists for me. /usr/lib/dri11:30
mcquaidbut resulted in another error which i've read means libGL is out of sync with the dri drivers11:31
mcquaidand i know i shoulnd't have to be symlinking this stuff, but couldn't see what else to try11:31
