Sergi0guys, anyone knows if edubuntu does mix with the mythtv project? basicly a backend setup on the server will not be hard, but using a frontend on a thinclient, will that be hard or am totaly wrong here and will work?12:15
BurgworkSergi0, hmm, that would be interesting. No idea12:15
ograSergi0, i was planning something like that, yes12:16
ograit will work with some tweaks to ltsp12:16
Sergi0well, thats just my point :) in my schooltime we did watch tv (recorded stuff and live) so for schools it would be great, and a big bonus for using edubuntu in the school12:16
ograthe problem is the transfer of the video in the thin client network12:17
Sergi0it is?12:17
ogradid you try to run a totem videostream on a thin client ? 12:17
ograif you dont run it locally on the client it gets very bad12:18
Sergi0ehm nope, i've planning a test setup, but nothing edubuntu so far. but the project itself interest me somehow12:18
ogra(chppy)12:18
Sergi0ah12:18
ograyou need to run it locally, which isnt supported yet ...12:18
ograbut i was planning to implement a ltsp kiosk mode for dapper+1 or +2, there you will be able to just tell the client what app to run 12:19
Sergi0so at this point streaming on a ltsp network is just a nono12:19
ogra(merely for internet cafes that only need a fullscreen browser, but not limited to that)12:20
Sergi0ah well thats cool too12:20
ograso you could just run mythtv locally on the thin client instead of a browser12:20
ograbut thats all still in planning state ... 12:21
Sergi0but u got me right here? just using the mythtv-frontend will not work?12:21
ograas well as full thick clients (complete diskless PCs that boot off the ltsp server)12:21
ograi'm not a mythtv user, but i suspect just using the frontend will eat a lot of bandwith ... that will need testing etc .. i cant say anything yet 12:22
ograbut its in any case planned for either the october or the next april release12:23
ogra(as time permits)12:23
Sergi0hmmm but a backend server setup on the edubuntu server will be okay, and maybe just one machine (a hdd install) with tv-out could use the frontend12:23
ogratry it ;)12:23
Sergi0u got right about the bandwith, thats a big isue 12:23
Sergi0well, maybe ill just test something withing the next few days or so, ill let u know if anything works 12:25
ograthatd be cool :)12:26
Sergi0thx for the info12:27
Burgworkogra, littlewizard just hit debian12:29
Burgworkas did mediawiki 1.512:29
ograhmm12:29
ograwhats littlewizard ?12:29
ograSergi0, thanks for the suggestion :)12:29
Burgworkhttp://littlewizard.sourceforge.net/ <-- we looked at it a while back12:30
ograoh, yes, quite a while :)12:30
Burgworkyour memory is going. It has only been two or so months :)12:31
Sergi0btw one last thingie for now, are any of the children tools/games etc etc desent translated into dutch?12:31
BurgworkSergi0, you can help translate them12:32
ogragcompris is still missing a -nl soundpackage ...12:33
Sergi0Burgwork: i will, just curious if there is any around. (im dislectic btw :P ) could'nt hurt to try :)12:34
ogranot sure about the state of the tux4kids or kdeedu stuff12:34
ograwe could just merge -de and -en to get dutch for gcompris ;P12:34
Burgworkkdeedu seems to have dutch work12:35
=== ogra hides before someone slay him
Sergi0guess ill find out when i do some testing, thx12:35
ograi know spacey uses edubuntu a lot in a school environment, but i'm not sure if he uses it in dutch or english12:36
ograi guess you two should talk :)12:37
spaceythe school uses dutch12:37
spaceypersonally i use english12:37
Sergi0well, thats about what im up too :)12:37
spaceytalk about what?12:38

pips1so ogra, the ltsp-build-client is everything that is needed by clients (as apposed to the server) ?09:52
ograyep09:53
ograyou need dhcp, tftp, nfs on the server (which ltsp-server-standalone installs and sets up) and ltsp-build-client to create the client environment 09:53
pips1purely in terms of hardisk space, how does the client stuff compare to the server stuff?09:53
ograthe client chroot is ~400M big09:54
pips1I mean, by the looks of it, the client stuff is pretty much a complete GNU/Linux system ...09:55
pips1aha09:55
pips1once I'm done, all client chroot is going to be i386 and the server stuff (dhcp, tftp, nfs) will still run AMD64 code, right?09:57
ograits a ubuntu-milimal system + X + ltsp-client09:57
ograX is the big part09:57
pips1ah, interesting :-)09:58
pips1hurray, done09:59
