jj__Hi - What's the correct way to wipe KDE off KUbuntu & reinstall it?  I did apt-get remove libqt3-mt, apt-get install kubuntu-desktop, but that isn't cvorrect - it leaves me with a logged in desktop with no taskbar, no start menu, & just one window with console, but no top bar to grab & move it - This is on Dapper.  -  Any idea how to install KDE properly on Ub Dapper?02:39
Hobbseepurge .kde if you havent already...02:40

Hobbseehunger_: there wasnt a response there, really02:41
jj__Hobbsee: Exactly what command to purge .kde?02:41
jj__hunger : What is debfoster?02:41
Hobbseejj__: cd && cd .kde && rm -rf * && cd .. && rmdir .kde02:41
hunger_jj__: .kde is the config dir that all kde apps use. rm -rf ~/.kde will purge it.02:41
Hobbseeoh ok, so it does work that way?02:42
=== Hobbsee didnt think that worked for folders...
hunger_jj__: debfoster is a non-GUI app that can be used to remove debs incl. all the stuff that is installed as a dependency for that deb.02:42
RiddellHobbsee: being an elite debconf/pykde coder02:43
hunger_jj__: removing kubuntu-desktop with debfoster should kill most of kde... maybe you will need to get rid of some extra kde apps not part of that and some qt apps though.02:43
HobbseeRiddell: haha right02:44
=== Hobbsee isnt one of them :P
jj__hunger Hobbsee: Actually, I'd already done "mv .kde kdeoriginal", so there was no .kde there when I did the /etc/init.d/kdm start   -   Soooo, Any other suggestions?  Some part of KDE seems to be missing, or not configured, yes?02:44

Lurethis happens 20% with "ati" driver and 100% with fglrx08:41
raphinkmalone 35123 and 35133.08:41
UbugtuMalone bug 35123 in xserver-xorg-driver-ati "Garbage on KDM screen" [Normal,Rejected]  http://launchpad.net/bugs/3512308:41
UbugtuMalone bug 35133 in kdebase ksplash "Kubuntu splash screen mal-formatted" [Normal,Confirmed]  http://launchpad.net/bugs/3513308:41
Lurethese are two reports that will get resolved when you commit08:41
Lurefirst one is just wrongly reported on ati...08:42
=== Lure has to get my daugher to bed (bbl)
raphinkso changing the background fixes both these bugs?08:42
raphinkthe first bug was rejected though Lure08:43
Lureraphink: yes it fixes both08:48
raphinkthen  you shoudl mention it in the changelog for the package08:48
Luretrue, rejected one was for wrong package (ati)08:48
raphinkat the end of the entre08:48
raphinkentry08:49
raphinkjust add (Closes: Malone #xxxxx and #xxxx)08:49
Lureactually I have first done the package then I recalled that there were bugs opened and was searching for some time to find it....08:49
Lurebut yes, we should add it - can you do it before upload?08:49
raphinksure08:50
LureI still do not get this change log thing completely08:51
raphinkhehe it's ok08:51
Lurefor example: if I take debian poversave package and merge it with ubuntu changes, should I use debian change log, or just ubuntu one?08:51
LureI am just doing 0.12.7 -> 0.12.11 upgrade, but I am not sure what is correct08:52
Lureand then I heard that changelog should only be one per upload, which makes it even harder...08:52
raphinkI'll test the package Lure08:52
raphinkI'll brb08:52
raphinkLure: I'll test the package after I dinner08:56
raphinklater08:56
Lureraphink: ok08:59

yuriyRiddell: i see the kio issue with non-kde apps was brought up above again.  I understand the real fix is needed on the KDE side, but what about the thing with changing the /%f in the .desktop files for non-kde apps?  That's something you can do that'd solve several bugs, what is the issue with doing that?09:40
yuriyoops that's  not underline09:41
yuriyugh09:41
yuriy\09:41
yuriysorry but i think you can guess what i was trying to type09:41
Riddellyuriy: it might work if we add X-KDE-Protocols= to the .desktop files to limit the protocols that KDE will pass it09:48
yuriyahh amarok-gstreamer is finally included with beta3, great, thank you!09:48
Riddellyuriy: the developers may well remove it from the final release09:49
yuriyRiddell: I don't know much/anything about it, but why NOT do the X-KDE-Protocols= thing? does it break something else?09:52
Riddellyuriy: I just havn't had time to try it yet, please do test it09:53
Riddellyou might need to google to find the syntax and if it really exists09:53
yuriyRiddell: ok, but where are these .desktop files located?09:54
Riddellyuriy: /usr/share/applications{,/kde}09:55
