Madpilothi all06:40
robotgeekhey Madpilot 06:41
robotgeeksorry, i lost track of the script we were working on06:41
Madpilotnp06:42
robotgeeki made it slightly better, still not very useful06:42
Burgundaviasalut Madpilot06:42
Madpilothi Burgundavia 06:42
Madpilotrobotgeek, I was going to write a note to the mailing list (and cc it to the art list) about the covers & the script we were planning06:43
robotgeekNext was getting qtruby working using Ruby extconf.rb script for the extension. That worked as long as I did it from the mingw shell, and not from the others. I found that to build Qt and QtRuby I had to use all three shells at different times. So after a bit of handing hacking the generated Makefile, I found the qtruby code compiled without much problems and only a couple of minor things needing fixing such as a call to vasprintf that mingw06:46
robotgeekThere are still some issues to be sorted out with the port, such as a garbage collection bug which causes half the Qt examples to crash unless they're run with 'GC.disable', but apart from that the Windows version works great.06:46
robotgeekshit. sorry06:46
robotgeekhttp://rafb.net/paste/results/XUsBb578.html 06:46
Madpilotwrong paste?06:46
robotgeekthe url is correct one06:46
Madpilotthought so06:46
robotgeeki had no idea what was in the clipboard, freaking middle button :P06:46
MadpilotI need to send a note to the Inkscape list asking about the inkscape command line stuff - "man inkscape" is less than helpful (surprise, surprise...) ;)06:46
robotgeekoh, if we could do that, it would be nice. i did get the strings this time, works with Kubuntu too, 06:46
robotgeekwill not work if something changes more "drastically"06:46
MadpilotInkscape can take an svg and output a PNG from cli - but I can't figure out the blasted syntax...06:47
robotgeeklemme see06:49
robotgeek-e, --export-png=FILENAME06:49
BurgundaviaMadpilot: man inkscape may have been written by the debian packager06:49
MadpilotBurgundavia, could have been - it seems complete, but it's one of those "you have to know this stuff already" man pages...06:49
Madpilotrobotgeek, found that, but "inkscape --export-png=foo.svg" doesn't seem to produce foo.png - I'm missing something...06:50
robotgeekMadpilot: i think you might need inkscape -e=foo.png foo.svg?06:51
Madpilotcould be -the man page isn't clear06:51
robotgeekseems to have worked for me06:52
Madpilotcool - let me see06:52
Madpilotlet me try it here, rather :P06:53

mdkeLaserJock: pong08:04
LaserJockmdke: heh, I'm trying to remember what I pinged you for08:06
mdkejust to say hi?08:06
LaserJockmdke: oh yes, I was going to go through my print copy and fix as much as I can08:06
LaserJockand I was still a little uncertain of what does and doesn't get translated08:07
LaserJockI'd like to avoid messing up translators as much as possible08:07
mdkeLaserJock: yeah, try to avoid changing too many strings, unless there are really bad things there.08:07
mdkebear in mind that long paragraphs are time consuming to translate, whereas short strings aren't08:08
LaserJockbut if they aren't translated then there shouldn't be any harm, right? like urls08:08
mdkeif you change a url, you change the whole paragraph that it is in.08:08
mdkeso that has to be retranslated08:08
LaserJockhmm, that stinks. ok, I'll try to keep that in mind08:08
LaserJockI just have to remember to think of things in paragraph chunks rather than sentence chunks08:10
mdkethat's it.08:10

BurgworkLaserJock, you around?10:53
LaserJockyes10:54
BurgworkLaserJock, just looking at the EdubuntuSchoolAdvocacy thing10:54
Burgworkvery cool doc, but I noticed two big issues10:54
Burgworkfirst, organization. Tell me what it does, and then what is looks liek10:54
Burgworksecond, I would organize the apps by what they do, rather than what they are10:55
Burgworkie, put kstars under Stellarium, not kstars10:55
LaserJockworking on both those issues right now10:55
Burgworkremember, teachers think in terms of lesson plans and specific topics10:55
Burgworkalso, did you see the edits I made?10:55
LaserJockyeah, didn't look at them in great detail10:56
Burgworkok10:56
BurgworkI cleaned up the first two sections10:56
LaserJockdoes something like https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EdubuntuSchoolAdvocacy/LaserJock look better?10:56
Burgworkjust a sec10:57
Burgworkyep10:57
BurgworkI would also avoid talking about duplicative things, like mplayer10:57
Burgworkconcentrate on the default install10:58
LaserJockyes, I just told them to scratch mplayer10:58
Burgworkmplayer is something old linux users love, but new ones hate10:59
LaserJockwhat about the question headings?10:59
Burgworkquestion headings?10:59
LaserJockon EdubuntuSchoolAdvocacy10:59
LaserJockthere are several sections that have a question as the heading11:00
LaserJock"What applications are installed?" and "Is it difficult to learn?" for instance11:00
BurgworkLaserJock, I would have a small section on common questions and have all the questions there11:00
Burgworknothing duplicative11:00
Burgworkalso, cut down the lenght11:01
BurgworkI assume the target audience is a brochure for teachers/etc. to look at11:01
LaserJockso maybe put a Q&A section that answers the short little questions rather than have a section for each one?11:02
LaserJockI think that assumption is correct11:02
highvoltageLaserJock: initially, all of them were questions, so i started converting some of them away from it (i didn't like the questions), i intend to move it all away from the questions11:06
LaserJockhighvoltage: good11:07
highvoltageInternal Server Error11:09
highvoltage*sigh* i think i break the wiki when i try to edit stuff11:09
highvoltageah, there it's fine again11:09

Burgworkmdke, a former PM of Canada admitted to talking to his dead mother through his dog12:00
mdkethese things do happen.12:01
LaserJockBurgwork: I wonder if there would be translational issues ;-)12:03
