Hobbseedarn....in konversation svn, there's a feature of "turn off server tab" - i wish we could get that into dapper!06:03
Hobbseeheaps of people want it!06:03
freeflyingHobbsee: nice feature06:04
Hobbseefreeflying: exactly.06:04
freeflyingHobbsee: maybe we can backport it to 0.1906:05
Hobbseefreeflying: you think it'd be possible?06:05
freeflyingHobbsee: maybe, we'd have a try06:05
Hobbseeseeing as it's way after UVF, and FF06:05

insanekanehi ... is it possible for the ubuntu installer to resize fat32/ntfs disks ?10:53
mornfallif you mean the d-i one, then probably so (debian's d-i can do it)10:54
=== pef [n=loic@ubuntu/member/pef] has joined #kubuntu-devel
insanekanemornfall: ok good ... have you heard of any bug reports on that thing ?10:55
insanekanemornfall: i mean, bad bugs ? :)10:55
mornfallinsanekane: backup your partitions obviously10:55
mornfallinsanekane: unless you want to hold on to your nick ;)10:55
mornfallbut it worked for me when i tried it10:56
mornfallthe win2000 server booted the resized ntfs partition10:56
mornfalldon't panic, the ntfs resize doesn't report progress IIRC10:56
mornfallso it just sits thrashing drive10:56
mornfalljust make sure power doesn't go out while it works ;-)10:57
mornfall(it'll probably take a few minutes)10:57
insanekanemornfall: well, i personally do not need it (I don't have windows installed anywhere near me) ... but I am setting up a workforce to install our Kubuntu-derivative on customer machines, and they will certainly need it10:58
mornfallthey will certainly have to back up everything first10:58
mornfallif you want your customer to stay your customer :)10:58
mornfall(unless there is no useful data on the partitions and it'd just cost you windows reinstall if it goes wrong)10:59
insanekaneheh, there is most probably going to be data ..10:59
insanekanemornfall: but how to backup X GB of data ? On CDs ?10:59
mornfallinsanekane: network?10:59
insanekanemornfall: may not be possible everywhere :)11:00
mornfallinsanekane: why11:00
insanekanemornfall: or our support technicians would have to carry laptops == $$11:00
mornfalli hope your customer can afford a pair of 200G drives on the network or something11:00
mornfall:-)11:00
insanekanemornfall: we are installing at people's homes11:00
mornfalloh11:00
pefntfsclone is very uselfull to clone ntfs partitions, because it only save used blocs11:00
mornfalli thought you were talking about a company network11:00
insanekanemornfall: no ... we are having a mass drive for installing this stuff ...11:01
insanekanemornfall: the issue we are facing is windows ... of course :)11:01
mornfallinsanekane: well, you can also try an external (usb2) drive for backups11:01
insanekanemornfall: hmm .. good idea ...11:01
insanekanemornfall: i'm also thinking, external DVD-RW ?11:01
mornfallinsanekane: possibly, but i'd guess that'll cause more trouble than usb mass storage11:02
insanekanemornfall: how so ?11:02
mornfallwell, you have to install software on windows for the dvd drive11:02
mornfalli believe11:02
insanekanemornfall: also, if I use the live CD to test the basic hardware, like video, etc ... will I get the same results when installing using the install CD ?11:02
mornfallinsanekane: same results, well, i guess there shouldn't be many differences11:03
insanekanemornfall: well, i was planning to use a LiveCD to backup everything to DVD/USB as you suggest11:03
mornfallaha11:03
mornfallthat's a good idea too11:03
insanekaneand to test hardware compatibility11:03
mornfallbetter than trying to back up from windows even :)11:03
insanekaneso, basically ... my support tech should have a LiveCD, a DVD+RW and a few DVDs ... right ?11:04

mornfallinsanekane: not sure what you mean?11:05
mornfallinsanekane: if you have usb2 writer or usb2 drive, the limiting factor will be the drive not usb2 i think11:06

insanekanepradeepto: hey, 80GB USB drives available in India ?11:07

insanekanepradeepto: good afternoon to you too ..11:08
insanekanepradeepto: how much does a 40GB come to ?11:08
mornfallinsanekane: there are usb2 to ide adapters IIRC11:09
pradeeptoinsanekane: wait for a moment , let me ask?11:09
insanekanepradeepto: thanks11:10
insanekanemornfall: oh ... wow, that means I can connect an IDE hard disk to USB ?11:11
mornfallinsanekane: i believe so yes11:12
mornfallinsanekane: google for usb2 ide harddrive ;-)11:12
insanekanemornfall: but ... is it supported in Kubuntu ? :)11:12
mornfall20 pounds or so11:12
pradeeptoinsanekane: apparently I am being recommended to buy normal hdd and usb2 interface11:12
mornfallinsanekane: it should work as usb mass storage, but make sure it works11:12
insanekanemornfall: yep, already did so11:12
insanekaneaha ok11:12
pradeeptoinsanekane: usb2 ide converters will cost your 150 rs in Mumbai.11:13
pefinsanekane: yes11:13
insanekanepef: and it can be restored to the disk from the image ?11:15
insanekanepef: ok, thats a stupid question :P11:15
pef:p11:16
pefinsanekane: have a look at the man page of ntfsclone, it contains examples ath the end :)11:16
mornfallso back to my original question11:17
mornfalladept 2.0 grave bugs anyone?11:17
mornfallor annoying or anything11:17
mornfallif noone steps up the svn version will turn into release candidate and at that point only really serious issues will get fixed11:18
mornfalland with really serious i mean "renders program unusable"11:18
pradeeptoinsanekane: suggestion if you buy and hadd, pay a bit extra and buy a laptop disk and a usb interface.11:22
pradeeptoinsanekane: then you will not need external power supply :)11:22
mornfalli think laptop disks are pretty expensive no? :)11:28
=== marseillai_ is now known as marseillai

marseillaii've find something that seems to be a "icon bug" but i'm not enough good in english to make a good report! i'll try to explian this! i try to change a folder icon i make a right clic on this icon and choose property. I choose camera icon for this folder this icon in the preview show a camera for photo but when i come back to konqueror I see another icone wich show a video camera.12:14
=== kmon [n=javier@217.Red-80-25-51.staticIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #kubuntu-devel
abattoirmarseillai: I think that may be because the icon might not be available at the chosen resolution in konqueror... For eg. If you choose a Crystal Clear camera icon which may not be available at 64x64, and your icon size in Konqueror is 64x64, KDE would revert to the Crystal SVG camera icon, which would be available for 64x64.12:55
abattoirI am not sure, but i think that is the problem....12:55
abattoiryou can confirm it by reducing/increasing the icon size in konqueror to see if the icon changes12:55
