ecoergii have a usb smartcard reader. they have given me a patch to use with the linux-2.6.16 kernel. i have breezy. is there a howto for this situation somewhere?08:13
ecoergii believe patch will apply to 2.6.12 kernel in breezy. need .config for this and instruction to rebuild initrd and such things08:14
crimsunconfig is in your /boot/config-$(uname -r)08:23
crimsunapt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)08:24
crimsunpatch it and use devscripts to build it08:24
crimsun[apt-get build-dep linux-image-$(uname -r)] 08:24

kimoMy toshiba laptop does NOT turn off at all using the new 22 kernel!! This is really irritating ...01:20
alex_jonikimo: sounds like acpi problems01:21
mjg59kimo: Please file a bug01:21
kimoalready filed ..01:22
mjg59kimo: Which number?01:22
kimoone second01:22
kimo3199301:22
kimoit used to be 50%/50%, now it seems it doesnt turn off at all01:23
mjg59Right, so it's not just -2201:23
kimotalking to me? what's -22 ?01:23
mjg5912:20 < kimo> My toshiba laptop does NOT turn off at all using the new 22 kernel!! This is really irritating ...01:24
ivokskernel revision01:24
mjg59What hardware?01:24
kimotoshiba A105 S361 laptop01:25
kimokernel 2.6.15-22.3401:25
mjg59What wireless chipset?01:26
kimoipw220001:26
mjg59If you do sudo modprobe -r ipw2200, does the machine shut down?01:27
kimohmm .. never done that 01:28
mjg59Can you try?01:28
kimowell. yeah but I am on that machine 01:28
mjg59That just makes it easier :)01:29
ivoks:)01:29
kimook .. I can try that now01:29
kimoI will just modprobe -r ipw220001:30
kimothen proceed with a normal poweroff01:30
kimook?01:30
ivoksmjg59: i'm having problems with hibernate since the begining of May (it worked before and I didn't touch anything)01:30
ivokskimo: yes01:30
kimoone minute01:30
mjg59ivoks: What's the problem?01:31
ivoksmjg59: it doesn't shut down... hibernate starts and then disk led is on, but nothing happens for 10 minutes01:32
ivoksmjg59: then it dies01:32
ivoksmjg59: on AC and battery... same thing01:32
ivokson the other hand, sleep works01:32
mjg59ivoks: Can you edit /etc/default/acpi-support and disable DPMS01:32
mjg59Then move /etc/acpi/suspend.d/90-framebuffer-stop out of the way01:33
mjg59Then try hibernation and tell me what output there is?01:33
ivoksok01:33
ivoksby the way... there isn't restart function for /etc/init.d/acpi-support01:34
ivoksi hope i'll be back :)01:34

kimomodprobe -r ; poweroff => NO POWEROFF01:42
ivoks:)01:42
kimoreboot then 'modprobe -r ipw2200; poweroff => CORRECT POWEROFF'01:42
ivoksbad results here, too01:42
kimoreboot then ' poweroff => CORRECT POWEROFF'01:42
ivokskimo: modprobe -r won't do anything01:43
kimoIt always seemed to me, that when I use my laptop for some time, it doesnt poweroff. If I immediately poweroff after booting , it works01:43
kimoivoks: yeah I meant 'modprobe -r ipw2200'01:43
ivoksok01:43
kimodo u think I can just stick in Suse10.1 kernel in dapper, & it would work ?01:45
ivoksno01:45
kimowhy is that 01:45
kimoI mean a kernel provides an interface right ..01:45
mjg59Because our kernel is somewhat modified01:49
mjg59Ok. So what happens when you try to power off?01:49
kimothe last thing .. it says 'will now halt' I think I hear the hard-disk tick like it's turning off, and that's it, the power button is still lighting. I have to press it for 4 seconds to manually turn off01:50
mjg59Does the screen stay on?01:50
kimoyes01:50
mjg59Ok01:51
kimoI would be happy to help u test patches & such 01:51
mjg59if I have any, I'll let you know01:52
ivokskimo: do you boot with noacpi?01:52
mjg59Oh, yes, that's a point. What does /proc/cmdline say?01:52
kimono .. I tried 2 tricks before 'acpi=force'& 'reboot=h'01:52
kimosame result01:52
kimoroot=/dev/mapper/Kubuntu--VG-Kubuntu--LV vga=0x361 selinux=0 resume=/dev/sda6 splash=silent reboot=h acpi=force01:53
mjg59Ok01:53
ivoksbye01:54
mjg59ivoks: How did yours fail?01:54
kimomjg59: so I hope I was helpful with this poweroff problem. Let me know if I can be helpful... (I really wish this gets fixed before Dapper)03:25
mjg59kimo: Sure, I'm looking into it03:26
kimomjg59: ok .. just to keep in touch .. feel free to email me on email.ahmedkamal AT gmail.com03:27
mjg59kimo: Can you try something for me?03:31
mjg59kimo: Get the kernel, go to drivers/acpi/sleep/poweroff.c, search for acpi_power_off and then make the first line of that function:03:31
mjg59acpi_sleep_prepare(ACPI_STATE_S5)03:31
mjg59;03:31
mjg59I think the comment is wrong03:31
kimomjg59: I think I must have linux-source or something right ?03:32
mjg59Yes03:32
mjg59apt-get source linux-image-2.6.1503:32
kimothen I'd recompile it ? :)03:33
mjg59Oh, hang on a minute please03:33
kimook ..03:33
kimonot that I couldnt, but I wouldnt trust the results especially that I'm very new to debian systems03:33
alex_joniI get a weird error when running debuild on the linux-source:03:40
alex_jonifind: lib: No such file or directory03:40
alex_jonithis is on linux-source-2.6.12 (breezy)03:41
alex_jonithis comes from the 'kernel-wedge check' from debian/rules -> binary_udebs03:44
