freeflyingimbrandon: hi08:15
imbrandonheya freeflying dident mean to bother ya but .... hold on let me paste what i just said in #ubuntu-devel ( no one was alive in there )08:15
imbrandon20:12]  <imbrandon> someone got a sec to help me figure out where to look to track down this bug, i can reporduce the bug like clockwork but i have no idea WHY its doing it or what logs / messages to look in to help someon fix it08:15
imbrandon[20:13]  <imbrandon> hell not even sure what to report it under in launchpad.net08:15
imbrandon[20:14]  <imbrandon> i dunno what to call it but if you install ( dont even have to use it ) smbfs , hald take a LONG time to start when booting ( like 2 or 3 minutes ) [ this is on upto date dapper , clean fresh install , install smbfs hangs on boot , uninstall it everything is smooth ] 08:15
imbrandon[20:15]  <imbrandon> not sure what hal ( hardware abstraction layer ) has to do with smbfs and i dont knokw where to look in the logs to be more helpfull but someone could tell me i would be happy to ( the reason i say hal is becouse thats what message it hangs on while booting for like 2 or 3 minutes )08:15

freeflyingimbrandon: automatically mount smbfs?08:17
imbrandonsmbfs is a package to allow "mount" to mount smb file systems but you dont have to actualy USE it just have it installed for this to affect you08:18
imbrandonnow i use it but i dident have anything mounted yet or any smbfs mounts in fstab08:18
freeflyingimbrandon: maybe /var/log/message help08:18
imbrandonut with smbfs package installed the next reboot hal will hang08:18

imbrandonhmm no errors ther at all, everything looks normal08:21
freeflyingimbrandon:  I also have similiar issue with you, no clues now, I bind /home  to a chroot environment, it also need 2-3 mins for bring up08:23
imbrandonon launchpad.net i dont even know whom to assign this to or if its a smbfs bug or hal bug in the way it handles smbfs ( if at all since its a hardware package ) or if its some other app hanging the boot 08:23
imbrandonand hal is the last mesage shown08:23
imbrandonahhh is it hal on the screen when the boot takes so long ?08:23
freeflyingimbrandon: don't think hal is the right08:24

Simeis it just me or does the bookmarks toolbar in konq like sometime automatically appear even though I've got it turned off...12:11
tomaSime: i filed a bug that my bookmarks toolbar is randomly disappearing12:12
Simeok, that sounds like what I'm seeing.12:12
Simeit is wierd12:13
SimeI can't corralate (sp?) it with any action in particular.12:13
tomayes, and i hate it ;-) I always, for ever, want that toolbar. There should be some lock setting.12:13
Simeit shouldn't appear/disappear randomly. simple.12:14
tomaright12:14
Simemp3 still don't work here in kde apps.12:14
Simealso mounting CDs seems to hang sometimes.12:15
Sime(might be FAM related..???)12:15
SimeI've seen pmount hang.12:15
Simeps showed it just sitting there doing nothing once.12:15
tomasomeone replied in the bug report wrote that kubuntu patch the bookmark toolbar to not be on by default. Maybe the patch is wrong. I wonder where I can find that patch.12:16
Simeit will probably be part of the source .deb.12:19
tomaah, true12:19
Sime"apt-get source <the right deb name>" will pull it down.12:19
Simebest to do that in an empty dir. BTW12:19

seaLnetoma: kubuntu-default-settings should be setting the bookmarks toolbar to be off by default but if you turn it on it should be saving that in ~/.kde and should therefore stay on, in the past i've had it disapear a few times and had to turn it on again but it always stayed on for a long time (yeah crap description :)05:27

seaLnefair enough you might not like the default (i don't either) but it seems impossible that what you are experiencing is happening unless konq never saves its settings? :-/05:35
seaLnehmm i just found a very weird bug probably in kpilot, on my palm if i set a start and end time of the same (ie 0 duration its just an alarm to remind me to do something) the result in the std.ics file is for an apparently random period averaging a a few weeks05:38
tomaseaLne: i don't like the default, but that is irrelevant. If I turn it on, it should stay on, and it does not do that ;-)05:39
toma:q05:39
tomaI'll remove kubuntu-default-settings for a while and test without it 05:40
seaLnetoma: what happens if you change the setting then quit all konqs is it set when you start a new one?05:40
toma(also when i turn it off, if it stays off)05:41
tomayes, it will stay for a while, and disappears somwhere during the day.05:41
seaLnei've noticed before with settings stuff that loging out didn't save stuff and the only other times programs would be stopped was when they crashed05:42
seaLnetoma: the same running konq?05:42
tomano, a new korq05:42
seaLnedid you quit the previous one that you set it in?05:43
tomaand i suspected a crashing konq as well, but that is not the case, i watched it carefully this week. I can imagen the default setting coming up after a crash05:43
tomamostly it happens when opening an extra konq05:44
seaLnesorry just trying to think of possible explanations05:44
tomaseaLne: it is weird, first up is to determine if it is konqs fault or kubuntu-patch fault05:45
seaLneis there any mention of bookmarkToolBar in ~/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc ?05:48
tomaseaLne: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12655605:49

tomai have something similar05:54
tomathere are a dozen bugs about toolbar bahaviour in konq05:54
tomaI'll not search further, it is a konq problem05:55
seaLneso you have that + Hidden=false in the section?05:55
tomayes05:55
seaLneinteresting05:55
seaLnemaybe it is redundant by having the section at all05:56
tomafunny br's http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12048105:58
UbugtuKDE bug 120481 in general "No toolbar, split linked view with one locked - first click in unlocked one returns toolbars and main menu!" [Normal,Unconfirmed]  05:58
tomait is reasonable to assume somehwere there is a race condition reading the settings of konq05:58
tomathanks for helping06:00

tomaindeed, i rather have something reproducable reliable 06:02
