kmonI hope plasma integrates some new ideas on the kmenu12:07
kmonright now it's ok, but I don't really like the design12:08
kmonI don't like kbfx either12:08
apacheloggerprobably - as kicker will not be anymore12:08
kmonto Winxp12:08
kmontoo12:08
nixternalexactly kmon12:08
nixternalno more kicker?12:08
nixternalkxdocker like?12:08
apacheloggerplasma = new concept of desktop12:09
apacheloggerkicker will not be kicker anymore12:09
nixternalahhh12:09
nixternalok...i see12:09
apacheloggerwill also be named differnt afaik12:09
nixternalso big changes then with kde4...that is good...i definately can't wait12:09
=== apachelogger just doesn't want to see 90% of features dropped to get the release date (vista like ;-)
nixternalya..me either apachelogger12:11
nixternaleveryone pushes linux as a free os, then they try to be more like linspire...i know it is a marketing ploy, but i think it is dangerous12:11
=== kmon leaves

apacheloggerknite kmon12:12
kmonand thanks again for dapper ;)12:12
apacheloggerbtw, amaroK will probably be "renamed" to Amarok12:12

lnxKDEkubuntu dapper with 3.5.3 and amarok 1.4 here :D12:18
nixternali just started using amaroK...i didn't like it at first because it wouldn't recognize my daap server. no i just use an nfs & samba server12:18
lnxKDEand working greate 12:18
lnxKDEthankx devs!12:18
nixternalnfs & samba server > daap anyways12:18
apacheloggerkood nikht all :-)12:31
bobesponjanixternal: what is daap?12:31
nixternalmt-daapd is an itunes server12:32
bobesponjayou mean an mp3 streaming thing?12:32
nixternalit is nice...because when the server is running...anyone with itunes, rythmbox, or banshee will automatically pick up the server upon start and you can start listening to the music12:33
nixternalit is similar bobesponja12:33
nixternalit is itunes specific really..only downfall is how to put files on the server, and you can't edit the info at all12:33
=== jeroenvrp talking to himself: maybe someone knows here

jeroenvrpIt's saying 'adding live user'12:36
jeroenvrpit turns black again12:36
jeroenvrpand the last line is a line saying: 'enabling passive release, etc...'12:36
jeroenvrpthere it stops12:36
jeroenvrpand waits there forever12:36

Tonio_only that tray and everything is perfect for me :)12:47
nixternalit definately makes using xwindows enjoyable...i stopped using xwindows in the 90's because it was never enjoyable12:47
nixternalxwindows forced me to use windows...that is why i am a terminal junky to this day12:48
Tonio_nixternal: hehe12:48
nixternalnow i just need to pick the coding aspect back up and then i will be good12:49
nixternalkubuntu and kde 3.5.2 made me stop using windows totally12:49
nixternali just need to find a decent cad substitute and i will be good12:49
Tonio_cad ?12:50
nixternali used autocad with windows...computer aided drafting12:50
nixternalit is great when it comes time to design network layouts for office spaces12:51
nixternalactually...i was starting to use m$ visio 2003...that worked pretty decent too12:51
nixternalim sure there is a linux port somewhere that will do everything i need..i just need to find some time to test some12:51

Riddelltime for bed01:16
Tonio_Riddell: did you notice the kicker tray is back to one line mode..... I wonder if this is wanted or a bug .....01:16
Tonio_nothing concerning this in the changelog....01:16
RiddellTonio_: apparantly the two line mode was a bug01:16
nixternalLOL01:16
Riddellso we'll need to add a couple pixels to the height of kicker in edgy to get it back to two line systray icons01:17
nixternalTonio_: we had it backwards... Riddell we want the bug back then01:17
nixternalhehe01:17
Tonio_Riddell: it was annouced as a new feature with kde 3.5.2 changelog01:17
RiddellTonio_: there were problems at Normal kicker hight, not enough margin for some icons01:17
Riddellor something01:17
=== Riddell sleeps
Tonio_Riddell: yes I know01:17
Tonio_Riddell: why not simply auto resizing the icons the same way applauncher applet does ?01:18
Tonio_the difference in the quite is quite invisible and it fits perfectly in the bar01:18
Tonio_nixternal: two line mode is still there, riddell is right01:20
Tonio_but as icons are not resized, you need to increase the size of kicker01:20
nixternalahh01:20
Tonio_nixternal: just tried here and that works01:20
nixternaloh ya..that is right..i do remember01:20
nixternalmake it larger then 58 correct?01:20
Tonio_nixternal: yup01:21
Tonio_nixternal: although I would personnaly prefer the tray to work the same way than applauncher does01:21
nixternalis there a way to make those icons smaller...so you don't have to make the kicker so large?01:21
Tonio_adapting icons and not the bar...........01:21

Tonio_icons are adapted to the bar's height01:26
nixternaloh ya01:26
=== Tonio_ notes to eventually change the kicker's height to 48 in kds
nixternalthat is nice...because i like to have my kicker usually around 3201:26
Tonio_nixternal: and the size is always proportionnal to the bar's height.........01:26
nixternalim going to give it a try01:27
Tonio_nixternal: sure that's nice01:27
Tonio_nixternal: I just don't think the tray can do that, but we can sk for this kind of feature (or option in the tray applet at least)01:27
Tonio_would be nice to be able to check "auto resize icons"01:28
nixternalya...auto resize would be very nice01:28
Tonio_nixternal: I will discuss this with kde devs in paris ubuntu meetings :)01:28
nixternali can work with the 48 since im on a 19"...but say for instance on my 15" lcd's or my 17" crt's...i like the smaller kicker01:28

DaSkreechare we going to have both XGL and Aiglx in Edgy?07:01
Tonio_the 3D component including effects is compiz ;)07:01
Tonio_DaSkreech: we already have them in the repos07:02
DaSkreechRight07:02
DaSkreechI know that07:02
DaSkreechBut we can't ship edgy with them both installed07:02
Tonio_but compiz is uncompatible with kde unless you install some gnome components, and even like that it is still bugging07:02
Tonio_DaSkreech: the solution is probably aiglx since is will be easier to implement that xgl, but concerning compiz, unless someone fixes compiz-kde, we will not be able to provide it with edgy....07:03
DaSkreechTonio_: so Would the Kubuntu team be tackling port it to KDE?07:03
imbrandon_zZzthe suse kde team more likely thats upstream stuff 07:03
DaSkreechI was of the opinion that you could merge the code from compiz and compiz-kde into kwin07:03
Tonio_DaSkreech: zack rusin failed to make it work, and this guy is the second best kde coder probably....07:03
DaSkreech:-(07:04
Tonio_DaSkreech: that's not an easy job and I don't think any of kubuntu developper can do that actually07:04
DaSkreechBounties perhaps?07:04
Tonio_DaSkreech: maybe ;)07:04
DaSkreechok I was just wondering if that was a possibilty07:04
Tonio_DaSkreech: everything is possible, but only *very* good coders can think about porting this...07:04
Tonio_zack is actually working full time on xegl and kde, and is the second most important dev for kde407:05
imbrandon_zZzDaSkreech, setup a bounty and post a forum note about it, if it gets high enough then the right coder will pick it up07:05
tomaTonio_: second best?07:05
Tonio_and he failed.....07:05
robotgeeki'm more excited about opensync and akonadi07:05
Tonio_toma: I wanted to say "most important"07:05
Tonio_not "best"07:05
tomaTonio_: if zack can't do it, forget it.07:05
Tonio_toma: or maybe you prefer "one of most important and best coders in the kde workd ?" ;)07:06
DaSkreechwell maybe he needs to move closer to source?07:06
Tonio_toma: well I don't know if he can't or if he simply doesn't have time for this ;)07:06
DaSkreechso that the intial compiz devs can take KDE or FD into consideration?07:06
Tonio_toma: who is the same level than zack in the kde worl except aaron ?07:06
tomaTonio_: i dont know either. I'm not sure about 'important', but he surely can hack.07:06
kmonok, I have to leave now07:07
Tonio_++ kmon ;)07:08
kmoncan someone tell riddell the patch didn't work here?07:08
tomaTonio_: i'm not sure if we should be comparing people, but there are some very intelligent people working at Trolltech, which are important.07:08
Tonio_kmon: whic one ?07:08
kmonthis one: http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ooo-amd64/07:08
kmonooo is broken in amd6407:08
Tonio_toma: sure ;) so let's just say zack is a killer coder and if he failed, there are probably no chances to see compiz working natively before kde4 ;)07:09
kmonpoor amd64 users will have to stay with koffice ;)07:09
Tonio_kmon: will say to Riddell yes ;)07:09
tomaTonio_: i agree07:09
kmonthanks Tonio_07:09
kmonnow I have to see how to get everything back to normal07:10
Tonio_DaSkreech: compiz is initially developped by novell that support suse07:10
Tonio_even is compiz-kde is working, it will keep based on gconf for configuration...07:10
Tonio_novell that supports "gnome" sorry :)07:10
Tonio_kmon: amd64 users will have the chance to be invited to use the marvellous koffice :)07:11
kmonhehe07:11
DaSkreechTonio_: Well didn't they pay for food at the KDE multimedia conference?07:11

tomaTonio_: it seems impossible to print atm to a network printer within kubuntu07:18
tomaTonio_: which is pretty serious imho07:18
DaSkreechThis isn't going to be fun is it?07:18
Tonio_toma: same issue with ubuntu or not ?07:19
Tonio_kde 3.5.3 is said to be compatible with cups 1.207:19
Tonio_I unfortunately can't test here07:19
tomaTonio_: i couldn't print my invoices this month. See also planetkde.org for more public br's. 07:19
Tonio_I know kde 3.5.2 in kubuntu has been eveilly patched to work with cups 1.207:19
tomaTonio_: ubuntu can print, that's what i used for my invoices this month ;-)07:20
Tonio_toma: tried with kde 3.5.3 ?07:20
tomano07:20
Tonio_toma: in that case that's a kdeprint issue, not a cups one07:20
Tonio_toma: if you have the possibility to do it can you test ?07:20
Tonio_toma: and give a bit of informations concerning the kind of printing eventually ? (http, lpr, tcp/ip...)07:21
Tonio_that might help too ;)07:21
tomaTonio_: `cupsdoprint` cli gives the error, so i assumed it is cups, but that does not explain kubuntu/ubuntu difference. I will update soon to test.07:21
Tonio_what works and what fails07:21
DaSkreechIt's a veryshort time period before 6:10 is released07:21
Tonio_DaSkreech: that's why edgy will go in an experimental way07:22
tomaTonio_: ok, i will try to bypass the server and print directly to the printer as well. thanks for the tips.07:22
Tonio_DaSkreech: no issues if it isn't as stable as dapper, since it'll be a bridge too edgy+1 more than a rocking solid distro07:23

\shDaSkreech: wanna have my archive of dapper-changes? ,)10:35
DaSkreechReally?10:35
DaSkreech\sh: Sure10:35
RiddellDaSkreech: no idea10:35
DaSkreechRiddell: Ok10:36
kwwiifunny that everyone says "poeple just want free software" when they really just want to do what they want with their software, whether it is free or not10:36
mornfallRiddell: probably depends on the smart/apt decision, i don't think smart currently does pdiff10:36
DaSkreechmornfall: is there a writeup on what's involved?10:36
\shkwwii: depends on the meaning of "free"10:36
DaSkreechkwwii: Well it depends on what you mean by free10:36
kwwiihehe10:36
DaSkreechdang it :-(10:36
kwwiiyeah10:36
\shsorry10:36
pygimornfall, smart is just bad :P10:37
\shtoo tired to be slow10:37
mornfallDaSkreech: yes, "give me a reliable way to get changelogs without getting the debs" (as in, mail me the url that i can rely on to provide changelogs for ubuntu and debian releases)10:37
DaSkreechah 10:37
DaSkreechI think I read something on that about three weeks back10:37
Riddellmornfall: http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/10:37
DaSkreechNow to see if I can find out where it was 10:37
=== DaSkreech sees the problem of reading too much now
DaSkreechOr we could use that :)10:37
mornfallRiddell: if it's the thing i was testing before dapper freeze to see if i can have changelogs, i think it didn't quite work10:38
pygikwwii, how's oxygen coming along? :)10:39
mornfallseems to be better now10:39
mornfallor maybe it was packages.ubuntu.com10:39
kwwiipygi: great! we put it in kde svn and several people have already stepped up to help :-)10:39
Riddellkwwii: ooh?10:39
pygikwwii, well, great :) You want mail of that one that wanna help? I saw he hasnt put it in references10:39
Riddellkwwii: website not updated?10:40
kwwiiRiddell: david is working on it, should be done sometime in the next few days10:40
=== \sh needs a red oxygen button....and when I click on it, it needs to play the song "Allways look on the bright sight of life..."
kwwiipygi: yes. please10:41

Riddellkwwii: does it use the kde 3 icon names or the freedesktop icon names?10:42
kwwii\sh: that sounds like a panel applet to me10:42
kwwiiRiddell: until now kde3 names but once we have a way of testing the freedesktop stuff we will change it10:42
\shkwwii: sure..but it needs a kwwiish red oxygen style graphical user interface..10:42
kwwiiwhen I click on "administrator mode" in system settings it doesn't show a popup and it does not show the interface, it that a known bug?10:43
\shkwwii: what part of system settings?10:43
DaSkreechmornfall: http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool.x/main/libt/libtunepimp/libtunepimp_0.3.0-2ubuntu4/changelog10:43
DaSkreechSeems straight forward enough10:44
kwwii\sh: several of them, sharing just now, and the monitor earlier10:44
mornfallyeah, but i either didn't know or it didn't work before the freeze10:44
mornfallit's not like i didn't ask :p10:44
\shkwwii:monitor? you mean display? yes, there are some glitches, I can confirm10:44
kwwiiyeah, display10:44
DaSkreechmornfall: I know :)10:45
\shI installed today, during my free time, 5 ibm t43 laptops via kubuntu-desktop cd10:45
DaSkreechIs there a page where I can follow adept?10:45
kwwiiI want to add a samba share and it won't let me :-(10:45
mornfallDaSkreech: what do you mean?10:45
\shkwwii: samba installed?10:45
DaSkreechupdates .. 10:46
mornfallDaSkreech: the closest you get to a homepage is http://web.mornfall.net/adept.html10:46
kwwii\sh: yepp10:46
mornfallDaSkreech: it has an svn url for development branch10:46
DaSkreechessentially a changelog for adept10:46
kwwiiit seems to be a problem with the sudo stuff, not the module itself10:46
mornfallwell, not quite10:46
\shkwwii: it's totally disabled10:46
\shafter admin mode10:46
kwwiisomehow I got the display stuff to work earlier, not sure how10:46
kwwiiwhat?10:46
kwwiiwhy?10:46
mornfallDaSkreech: the only "changelog" is debian/changelog and svn commit messages10:47
mornfallDaSkreech: debian/changelogs only happens every release10:47
kwwiiso there is no samba sharing?10:47
mornfall-s10:47
DaSkreech:-)10:47
\shkwwii: dunno...admin mode, popup, password, inside UI comes up, but greyed out10:47
kwwiimine does not even show a UI, just a red box and inside plain grey10:48
kwwiiand the adept-updater doesn't work half the time either10:48
DaSkreechIf the changelog patch goes in would it get updated in the repos? I'm still not sure how frozen a release is once it comes out10:48
kwwiiI should be a proffesional bug-tester10:48
kwwiiI know how to find them10:48
\shkwwii: support sflaw ;)10:48
\shkwwii: and get kurt as well10:49

DaSkreechWoah11:18
DaSkreechhttp://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/206411:18
MidMarkRiddell: I have a webcam and a soundcard, the default is webcam only because "Camera" is before "CA0106" alphabetically, so I cannot hear nothing... is it a bug? What can I do?11:18
\shok going to bed..good night11:19
RiddellMidMark: default what?11:19
DaSkreechKurt's kinda mad at Kubuntu11:21
Riddellthe problem though is mostly with CUPS11:22
Riddellsomebody had to be the first to ship with CUPS 1.211:23
DaSkreechYeah11:23
MidMarkRiddell: sorry I have problems with kscd11:23
DaSkreechYou'd think that someone would have tried to sort out printing on LInux by now11:23
kwwii_inkscapewhat I don't get is why this is called long term support when it is more like long term feature regression11:23
Riddellkwwii_inkscape: what's regressed?11:24
kwwii_inkscapewell, the printing does not work as well, and breezy worked much better on my machines11:25
kwwii_inkscapeI am spending time editing xorg.conf per hand, not too much fun for a desktop11:25
kwwii_inkscapeamarok will not keep my collection11:26
kwwii_inkscapeI have to click that damn button every time I start it and wait11:26
kwwii_inkscapethe updater starts about 10% of the time I click on it11:26
kwwii_inkscapeafgter running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg my machine hangs after booting11:27
MidMarkfunny: kscd don't play cd (no sound), kaffeine is ok11:27
kwwii_inkscapethe gain on my speaker is per defualt set to white noise level11:27
OdyXkwwii_inkscape: mine too...11:28
Riddellprinting is the change to CUPS 1.2, I've not heard of amarok not keeping collections, xorg I don't know, updater talk to mornfall although that could be due to your problems with kdesu which I've also not had other reports of, speaker gain is probably related to ppc sound being broken and never 100% fixed11:32
RiddellI see that oxygen still has blue folders :)11:32
DaSkreechOf course :)11:33
DaSkreechIt can be any colour as long as it is blue :-)11:33
MidMarkI don't like oxygen too much, they are not revolutionary11:36
kwwii_inkscapeMidMark: in comparison to what?11:36
kwwii_inkscapeRiddell: actually we have other colors but we did not want to piss anyone off right away :-)11:37
MidMarkkwwii: in comparison to kubuntu for example11:37
Riddell?  kubuntu uses the default KDE icons11:37
MidMarkRiddell: then to KDE icons11:38
=== DaSkreech grins
kwwii_inkscapeMidMark: erm, you mean crystal11:38
DaSkreechMidMark: I think what they mean is what do you consider revolutionary?11:38
MidMarkMacOSx icons are very very beatifull, I don't like apple'os, but looks nice, those icons not... they are... darker11:40
MidMarkand not so nice...11:40
MidMarkin my opinion of course11:40
DaSkreechSo Oxygen icons are too dark?11:41
kwwii_inkscapeMidMark: did you see the kontact toolbar david posted on his blog?11:41
kwwii_inkscapeI do not think you can say that they are darker than the crystal stuff11:42
MidMarkI'm seeing this -> http://www.oxygen-icons.org/?cat=311:42
kwwii_inkscapeMidMark: ouch, that is an old preview, we are working on updating the site11:43
kwwii_inkscapecheck out the playground/artwork/Oxygen in kde svn11:43
MidMarkso can I have un updated link?11:43
kwwii_inkscapeor look at davids blog11:43
kwwii_inkscapeone second11:43
MidMarkthx11:43
RiddellMidMark: you could package that too :)11:43
kwwii_inkscapehttp://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/artwork/Oxygen/theme/svg/11:44
kwwii_inkscapebrowse the folders in that dir11:44
MidMarkRiddell: why in kscd there is no sound? output is for webcam instead of soundcard?11:44
kwwii_inkscapethere is also a script in "Ken" two levels up which will build the theme file11:45
kwwii_inkscapeso you can test it11:45
kwwii_inkscapebut it is still not complete yet11:45
kwwii_inkscapecheck kontact for instance11:45
kwwii_inkscapeor konqi11:45
kwwii_inkscapeand remeber that it is a work in progress11:45

Flosoftcool11:46
Flosoftwhere can I setup these icons11:46
Flosoft???11:46
Flosoftdo they replace crystal?11:47
kwwii_inkscapecopy them from svn and then run my script in the svg dir11:47
kwwii_inkscapehopefully they will replace them, yes11:47
Flosoftisn't there something for System settings?11:47
Flosoftto automatically import them11:47
DaSkreechkwwii_inkscape: Can't I do a svn checkout on it?11:47
kwwii_inkscapeFlosoft: yepp, but first you have to build the tar.gz file with my script11:48
kwwii_inkscapeDaSkreech: of course11:48
robotgeekkwwii_inkscape: nice! 11:48
Riddellkwwii_inkscape: I think you'll need to put a "how can I setup these icons" on the website when it's updated :)11:48
MidMarkkwwii: they are nicer, I'm seeing...11:48
Riddellof course I expect someone to package them soon11:48
kwwii_inkscapeRiddell: yeah, I will do that but it was hard enough to convince the others to release them so soon11:48
kwwii_inkscapeonce the website is updated we will announce the release11:49
kwwii_inkscapeand I am spending the time before paris to work on them full-time11:49
=== kwwii_inkscape wants to convince mark to use them :-)
sethhttp://websvn.kde.org/*checkout*/trunk/playground/artwork/Oxygen/theme/svg/apps/konqueror.svg?rev=546749 kwwii_inkscape, that's hot ^_^11:50
kwwii_inkscape:-)11:50
kwwii_inkscapestill needs some work at small sizes11:51
sethhow does SVG handle small sizes? Can you embed a bitmap to use below size X?11:51
Riddellkwwii_inkscape: to convince mark they would need to be default in kubuntu edgy on KDE 311:52
Riddellseth: you need a separate file11:52
sethbah, still the dimXdim holdover eh :)11:53
kwwii_inkscapeRiddell: yeah, I know...which means we have a lot to do in four months11:53
sethah well, at least now we don't need 6 different folders for all the sizes, just a few11:53
MidMarkkwwii: you are talking to me? I have to install them?11:53
kwwii_inkscapeguess I meant mr shuttleworth :-)11:54
Riddellseth: in KDE 3 we'll still need all the sizes as bitmaps11:54
kwwii_inkscapewe are rendering them all to pngs atm, but we are working with kde4 as well so they are a pure svg theme11:55
kwwii_inkscapeonly using one size svg for both the small and large icons is kinda difficult11:55
