[06:15] hey [06:16] so what's up all?? [06:16] its raining :| [06:16] nice [06:16] I just got done working yet another 11 hour day [06:16] brb [06:21] Score I just got my Ubuntu disks in the mail :) [06:23] :) ii have my edubuntu and kubuntu cds, but i dont have my ubuntus :( [06:25] waiting on those two [06:25] kgoetz: Ordered separately or do they ship separately? [06:25] Still waiting on all of mine. [06:26] tonyyarusso: i ordered a few of each distro, then i ordered a heap more ubuntus, so i asume they held back the ubuntu cds to send all at once [06:26] kgoetz: Ah. [06:27] Are they taking custom orders now or still the ten at a time like at the beginning? [06:27] custom [06:27] Sweet. [06:27] I ordered a total of 50 (k,edu,u)buntu disks for a project [06:27] Hey, this would be a good place to ask this: [06:29] now if only I could get my wengo phone working lol [06:29] What do you think would happen if I sent Ubuntu/Kubuntu CDs to my political representatives on various levels? What should I say in an accompanying explanation if I do? Also, what would be good to say with Edubuntu CDs given to schools or school districts? What level would be most effective? Principals, teachers, or IT people? [06:29] tonyyarusso: depends how the education system in your area works [06:29] Ehm. If you're aiming to make a change in the school system or the government just mailing some CDs won't do the trick. [06:30] a lot of places in australiaits /law/ that use you windows [06:30] even with a written explanation they'll just be thrown out. [06:30] kgoetz: Really? Is that even..legal? [06:30] tonyyarusso: aparently so [06:30] in some countries obviously. [06:30] adamant1988: Even if I'm not shooting for any sort of fast change, just an awareness raising bit would be good. [06:31] 3 of australias 6 states have laws that only MS stuff is 'supported' by the govt [06:31] then do a presentation and a community project. [06:31] What would make them boot the CD once, say, "Hm, interesting", and then throw them out? [06:31] They're not going to boot the cd. Not unless you give them a reason. [06:31] adamant1988: How does one arrange that sort of presentation? [06:31] Well, I'm doing one as my senior project. [06:32] How 'bout, "maybe your computer wouldn't crash all the time if you used Linux". [06:32] find some local funding, a sponsor, and get everything together [06:32] Or in the case of my high school, "Maybe your network would work. Reliably. Ever." [06:32] make sure you have an audience. If you have a local linux user group, they'd be great to get in contact with. [06:32] There is one, based over in Minneapolis. [06:33] You also need to get your reps to listen, so make sure to invite them to the 'conferance' or w/e. [06:33] you want lots of hard numbers and research. [06:34] My presentation has a 'captive' audience in the school. they don't have a choice but to listen to me, it's a graduation requirement. [06:34] You know, I don't know about the majority of them, since most of our politicians are scum, but my state senator is a good guy - might take me up on a lunch meeting if I prepare some stuff. [06:34] adamant1988: Nice. [06:34] depending on your age, and what you send him. All politicians are busy people. [06:35] adamant1988: Would you be willing to share some of your materials? Or are they already up on the wiki? [06:35] I'm not technically a part of the marketing group [06:35] I'm a 'member' of the Linux Campaign though, and I want to join the marketing group. [06:35] adamant1988: 19. He's busy, but the type that came to our door to introduce himself after they redrew the districts. [06:36] Yeah, I'm in pretty good with manchin. [06:36] at least to the extent that I'm on a talking basis with his sister-in-law. [06:36] so I think I could get him to at least notice what I'm doing, but I'm trying to start small. [06:37] if I make a few newspapers locally, the local scum (politcal leaders) might pay a little more attention, and it'll slowly build from there. [06:37] That would be good. [06:37] I tried contacting all of the local media when Dapper released, but I don't think anybody ran anything. [06:37] brb [06:38] The Associated Press got some stuff in like the Boston Globe though. [06:39] oh yeah? [06:39] adamant1988: where are you located? [06:39] West Virginia [06:39] nice [06:39] how about that rain? [06:39] a state that could *really* benefit from foss. [06:39] didn't get any today [06:39] a couple days ago it was nice [06:39] i used to live in southern maryland..i heard that whole are has been nailed by rain recently [06:39] no one came to subway or wendys.. peaceful. [06:40] my x-wife and daughter still live in "my house" in southern maryland ;) [06:42] oh yeah? [06:42] nice [06:42] I'm excited... these disks mean a lot for me :) === Rinchen [n=Rinchen@unaffiliated/rescue] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [06:43] I'm confused about the marketing team though [06:43] I don't know where to begin on working with it... [06:45] yeah, my ubuntu disks just came today [06:45] im waiting for the typical 10 each yet...but i also have a special 1000 disk order in for an upcoming event [06:45] meaning my kubuntu disks should arrive anytime. [06:45] if they don't come by then..im skewed [06:46] wow 1000 disks? [06:46] do you think that'll get accepted? [06:46] If you tell them what it's for. [06:46] ya..the last even we had...i burned 500 and they were gone in less then 30 minutes i would say [06:46] nixternal: What sort of people do you get coming to your events, and how? [06:46] I ordered 50 for my school event... should I have ordered more? [06:47] oh ya adamant1988...it will get accepted..it is for LoCo and Marketing purposes..and since im a member on both teams and other's..it should go through..plus i had backing from a couple of Canonical people on the order [06:47] it is a computer show they do every 2 months in the chicagoland area [06:47] Nice [06:47] they get on average 15,000 on a sat and sun [06:47] nix, what's the marketing team doing right now anyway? [06:47] restructuring [06:47] big time [06:47] I caught that. [06:48] But should I wait to get involved? === Madpilot [n=brian@S0106001150603f7d.gv.shawcable.net] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [06:49] my main concern is that I'm confused. lol. I want to have a clear idea of what I'll be doing [06:49] right now would probably be the best time to get involved [06:49] whats up Madpilot [06:49] not much [06:50] you can always just hang out, and when jenda gets back maybe he can give you some clearer information..or even matthewrevell if he was around [06:50] what exactly does the marketing team do? [06:50] im supposed to be working on the wiki right now..but my graphics guy is messing around... [06:50] speaking of that..i need to go crack the whip on a couple of jobs i have pending ;) [06:51] I'm working in the linux campaign right now. I'm the 'resident leader' of West Virginia [06:52] thats pretty cool...and a good start for here [06:52] but I can handle both. [06:52] I'll have some free time soon as I'm quitting my second job. [06:52] all i have is free time right now :) [06:53] haha [06:53] But seriously, what are the responsibilities of the marketing team? [06:53] i kind of messed up though [06:54] i sold my house because i was planning on moving to mexico [06:54] now you're not moving? [06:54] i had the house and everything picked out..well the house fell through and i didn't get the bid in on time [06:54] ouch [06:54] so now..im not moving...and im stuck staying at the back end of my parents house [06:54] not to shabby as im seperated somewhat...but everything is free ;) [06:54] lol [06:55] you still haven't answered me [06:55] so now..im going to chill out for the summer [06:55] oh..didn't see the question [06:55] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarketingTeam [06:55] that is a brief explination [06:55] everything is the wiki lol [06:55] hehe [06:55] wiki rules thats why [06:56] plus im a wiki member..so i pump it as much as possible ;) [06:56] lol [06:56] lol [06:56] ok, so how do I join then? [06:56] iv seen you mailing the doc list nixternal :) [06:56] hehe [06:57] when you see my doc-list mails, that means work is churning [06:57] i love the fact people get mad cuz of those email [06:57] https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-marketing [06:58] join via the launchpad [06:58] read the info on there [06:58] i don't know exactly how they are going to be running the launchpad...as i heard rumors of 30 day tryouts and what not...but that was just a rumor [06:59] =\ [06:59] hehe [06:59] does it let you join that way or not? [06:59] there is no telling what is going on with the lp right now...plus jenda and revell aren't around..as they seem to be the senior personnel [07:00] im trying to remember who else...i see magazine people in here right now [07:00] I like the magazine idea... [07:01] My main 'skills' reside in writing, graphical work, and creative thinking processes. [07:01] so I don't know how much use I'll actually be... [07:01] adamant1988: be glad you have skills :| [07:01] graphical work..you may have just opened mouth and inserted foor [07:01] s/foor/foot ;) [07:02] let me find something for you to do then ;) [07:02] why's that nixternal? [07:02] :D [07:02] i need a MarketingTeam logo [07:02] like what? I'm still learning inkscape and gimp, but I can get around them well enough. [07:02] i will show you in one second [07:02] I was much more comfy with illustrator and photoshop. [07:04] http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=24719 <- look at the globe images there [07:04] we want either static w/ africa showing...but we really want it to spin [07:04] with an Ubuntu logo incorporated ;) [07:04] ehm, I can do the static with africa showing. [07:05] But the spinning I wouldn't know how to do yet. [07:05] lets see what you got [07:05] Shouldn't be too hard. [07:05] i just may have to open up a forum with a contest..but i don't have anything to give out ;) [07:05] i can give out hugs [07:05] lol [07:05] I assume you want the logo in scalable vector.. [07:06] Hrmmm I have an idea but I need to see if inkscape does gradients [07:06] yep [07:06] rock-n-roll with it [07:06] ok, I should be able to do this... what size do you want it in? [07:06] adamant1988, it does nice gradients :) [07:07] would you like 128x128? [07:07] that will work for now i guess [07:08] well Im' going to go scalable with it [07:08] so it should be scalable to w/e size you want [07:08] that would be a good idea i think [07:08] also when I said photoshop, I'm more into abstractish stuff too... I haven't done much logo work, I know how, just haven't.. [07:08] http://dismalmuse.deviantart.com/ [07:09] That's mine.. I haven't done much with it... [07:09] mmm greeeenn...in a homer simpson voice [07:09] haha it was supposed to be a collaboration with an elive artist [07:10] but I kind of finished it on my own [07:13] well, it's off to bed for me. [07:13] later mate [07:13] I'll do that logo when I get the time... I'm getting a new apartment soon. [07:13] I signed up at the launch pad [07:13] :) === Rinchen wonders if anyone has seen this yet: http://opensource.apress.com/article/37/switch-to-ubuntu [07:26] hm. interesting [07:26] i had seen artices from teh 2 people meantioned, but not htat one [07:28] I just sent it to my friend who uses centos and just bought a macbook [07:28] The reasons specified are why I made the switch from Mac to Ubuntu [07:29] or should I say...a beautiful Mac to a warty warthog [07:29] :) [07:30] GAH why won't openwengo work!? [07:34] yep [07:34] if it's userid and pw then it shouldn't be a port issue and you can use regular mode [07:34] I can login to the site fine [07:34] realm and sever voip.wengo.fr ? [07:34] force register through proxy 213.91.9.210 ? [12:44] no idea [12:44] a Marketing forum @ ubuntuforums, if we need one at all, would make far more sense anyway [12:45] i'm not a fan of forums, but thats not the point :) [12:46] neither am I, really, but some people like them for some reason === kgoetz shrugs. some people are willing to go and find things to comment on (forums), i prefer them to come to me (email) === kgoetz is probably lazy ;) [12:49] I find I can realistically follow two or three large forums at once - but I'm on about two dozen mailing lists, about four-six of them busy, and don't have any problem keeping up... [12:49] There was a discussion about discussing marketing stuff on the ubuntuforums a long time ago and then it was decided that the marketing team should set up their own forum, so ubuntupeople.com was started. The reasons for this are not clear to me (ubuntuforums was only for support) [12:50] meh. There's lots of stuff on ubuntuforums that isn't strictly support [12:50] Later on there was some stuff about the ubuntupeople forums between Jenda and Lloyd. I don;t know the details, but Lloyd apparently decided to close the ubuntupeople.com forum. Now it is decided that for now the marketing team only discusses on irc and the mailinglist [12:51] I've proposed to add marketing to the ubuntuforums and from their side it was okay, but for now we only use mailinglist and irc [12:51] hm. [12:51] good, it's one less info source to track :) [12:51] i prefer irc+email, so i'm not hanging out for a forum :) [12:52] Other question. Does any of you use jabber? [07:31] it's close...but I don't do heavy graphics works. I find ooodraw easier to use [07:31] inkscape screwed my gradients up and then wouldn't evne let me save right === adamant1988 wishes he had crossover office right now [07:36] adamant1988: you can upload images to the ubuntu wiki [07:39] yeah... inskcape won't save my file though [07:39] the only thing it's saving is the gradient [07:39] so idk. [07:39] i'll brb [08:09] arg [08:09] Rinchen come back!!!! [08:10] lol [08:11] needed to ask him an OOo quesiton about 2.0.3 === dotwaffle [i=dotwaffl@silenceisdefeat.org] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [08:12] amaroK actually finishes a playlist..it doesn't keep going..retarded [08:13] you can set it to repeat nix.... [08:14] what I want to know is why inkscape won't save my files [08:17] yay [08:17] it saved :) [08:17] nixternal, do you have an email? [08:18] nixternal at gmail dot com [08:18] why not just write it out lol.... [08:20] cuz this channel is logged and displayed on the web === nixternal don't want spam [08:20] sh [08:21] if all is well it should be in your inbox... === nixternal checks [08:22] I wanted to put the whole thing in a glass ball, but inkscape disagreed with my idea. === adamant1988 notes the silence [08:27] its a start..but don't have it showing the United States [08:27] that will cause definate turmoil ;) [08:29] I said I could find a good africa globe.. [08:29] don't get me wrong, I love the US and have lived here most of my life...but the stupidity we have been up to lately has the rest of the world angry with us...and having an Ubuntu logo with the US showing..oh wow..it scares me ;) [08:29] couldn't [08:29] oh i know..it isn't easy to find [08:34] no doubt [08:48] i wonder if there is a way to incorporate a spinning globe inside of the ubuntu logo [08:48] that would rock [08:48] it would be an animation [08:48] and not scalable. [08:49] then we need 2 logos..one that spins and one that is scalable ;) [08:50] haha, I don't know how to do animation in gimp [08:51] i might hit up the forums..and have people submit an image...tell them they are helping out the community this way [08:52] perhaps [08:52] I've not spent the time to learn these tools for graphics work.. === mgalvin [n=mgalvin@ubuntu/member/mgalvin] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [09:21] I'm trying to get ps and ai working in wine === [0x90] [n=k@87-196-26-81.net.novis.pt] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === [0x90] [n=k@87-196-26-81.net.novis.pt] has left #ubuntu-marketing ["..."] [10:36] http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca/pub/distro/ubuntu/iso/6.06/ubuntu-6.06-server-i386.iso.torrent [10:36] http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca/pub/distro/ubuntu/iso/6.06/ubuntu-6.06-server-i386.iso.torrent [10:36] doh [10:36] sorry [10:36] [15:35] you guys will get pretty swamped soon, with WIndows shutting us down [10:36] thats what i wanted to post [10:36] this guy popped into my LoCo channel and started talking..i got him into the New Users Network..and that was his line [10:37] WE WILL GET PRETTY SWAMPED!!! I think the whole Microsoft WGA stuff could work in our favor [10:37] what's that? [10:38] you just confused me [10:41] i am working with a new user [10:41] ok... [10:41] and he stopped using windows because of the XP killing the stolen keys [10:41] haha [10:42] and ms has been killing legit keys from what people say [10:42] although i find that one hard to believe [10:42] no it's true [10:42] That happened to me a couple times [10:42] i had a stolen key...and still do..but i don't use windows except for screenshotting a howto [10:42] ;) === rikai [i=rikai@pool-72-65-104-234.ptldme.east.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === darkmatter_ [n=darkmatt@206-163-248-195.yktn.hsdb.sasknet.sk.ca] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === damned [n=vpol@damned.vpol.org.ru] has joined #ubuntu-marketing
