[09:18] hi [09:18] *sigh* I have to shop for a new computer me thinks. [09:19] fun [09:19] yeah, I don't want to get one from some place that preinstalls windows though [09:19] I want to make sure my new computer is linux compatible [09:19] buy parts, assemble your own [09:20] takes too long [09:20] only way to buy a desktop, I think [09:20] no computer stores near by. [09:20] mail order is good, take an afternoon to assemble the beast, install Ubuntu on it in less than an hour, done. [09:20] i'm thinking i might do system76 and get myself a nice ubuntu system preinstalled =\ [09:21] but I'm also looking at linspire. [09:22] system76 boxes look nice, actually [09:23] you looking for desktop or lappie? [09:23] adamant1988, it takes less than an hour to build a box if you've got the time... [09:23] a desktop, something with enough power to run XGL [09:23] I'll probably end up dual booting two linux distros on it [09:24] I'm thinking it'll be any combo of Ubuntu, Suse, and Freespire/Linspire [09:24] any of those System76 boxes should handle XGL, I think [09:25] Yeah, I imagine. [09:25] I used Kororaa on disk [09:25] XGL makes a world of difference in the interface. [09:25] It's suprising how much of a difference a nice clean look and a snappy gui effect set can do to enhance the experience. [09:27] Yeah right now I'm *seriousl* looking at linspire and Ubuntu... both are great IMO... I would say SLED but I think waiting 20 minutes for opera to install from .rpm was enough. [09:31] ouch [09:31] Ubuntu has Opera in repos now :) [09:32] yeah [09:32] CNR is the main thing that would have me looking at Linspire [09:33] CNR is amazing, it's a little less up to date, but the fact that I can get all the best commercial aps through it says something [09:33] including legal dvd playing [09:38] I have to test freespires online now... I'll be back momentarily if it works... === adamant1988 [n=root@h-141-153-101-16.ckb.meer.net] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [09:42] well everything appears to be working in this neck of the woods [09:44] running freespire are we??? :P [09:45] yep :P [09:45] I'm not beyond giving it a shot... I'm a selfish user. As long as something meets my needs I'm happy with it [09:47] lol [09:47] most are that way.. [09:47] me.. I'm being the usual me [09:48] currently compiling glscube for a test drive [09:48] :) [09:48] haha, I agree with the open source morals and all, but truth be told I like my user friendly apps and interfaces [09:48] Oh you HAVE to tell me how GLScube is [09:48] I'm very interested in that project. [09:49] lets see.... hmmm... only about 22% of my uby is 'factory'... I'm slipping :P [09:49] I'll tell youy in a bit [09:49] my last dapper install was 8% factory approx [09:49] the rest was all custom builds [09:50] haha [09:50] how I hated reinstalling the official release [09:50] I almost cried [09:50] I usually don't mess with stuff from factory conditions much [09:50] all that work.. poof... except for a few debs [09:50] unless there is an obviously great benefit for doing it [09:51] so now I'm just going to not do as much updating until I toss my new hardware in [09:51] anywho I'm going to go to bed, I' worked 11 1/2 hours today... littttttttle tired. [09:51] keep me posted on how the GLScube thing goes, and if it makes life any easier. [09:51] :) [09:52] me...
