[06:31] doko: I have one major reservation about it and that's the fact that usblp doesn't have 32-bit->64-bit ioctl thunking, so people who used the amd64 kernel with 32-bit userspace would suffer problems that might not get fixed, and they would end up going back to a 32-bit kernel anyway [06:32] If I can get that fixed, then I'll probably create an amd64-generic for i386 [06:33] ok, just wanted to know ... [06:33] not only that, but then there's the whole issue of uname -m reporting x86_64, which will create all sorts of compile problems for those users [06:33] linux32 uname -m [06:34] AKA, "that's their problem, they can sort it" [06:34] yeah, but try having to answer that 1 million times [06:34] actually, if we provide the kernel, it suddenly becomes our problem :) [06:35] *shrug*, we're providing it as a non-standard option. [06:36] And we don't guarantee that any sort of development stuff ever works out of the box without the user having a brain attached. === jwest- [n=jwest@83.110.124.125] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === rodarvus [n=rodarvus@ubuntu/member/rodarvus] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === johanbr [n=j@jupiter.physics.ubc.ca] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === BenC [n=bcollins@debian/developer/bcollins] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === smurf [n=smurf@debian/developer/smurf] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === Keybuk [n=scott@quest.netsplit.com] has joined #ubuntu-kernel === BenC [n=bcollins@debian/developer/bcollins] has joined #ubuntu-kernel [11:05] Linux powder 2.6.17-5-powerpc64-smp #2 SMP Mon Jul 24 11:00:28 UTC 2006 ppc64 GNU/Linux [11:05] not sure why the installer for this openpower box freezes, but a manual install using debootstrap runs just fine [11:08] [10727.696722] Brought up 4 CPUs [11:08] yummy
