[02:45] same here, started working. looks like i am going to have to go back to school because of visa issues. [02:46] :/ [02:46] where are you living these days? [02:46] huntsville, al [02:47] that's not a bad thing [02:47] normally doctoral students are much better funded than masters [02:47] and you get an extra few years to twiddle your sponsors' money [02:47] (no, I'm not cynical at all) [02:47] hehe [02:47] heh. [02:48] heh === jsgotangco wonders when he'll get the chance to go to school again [02:52] whats up robotgeek? [02:53] nixternal: how about we split up the KDG [02:53] we can do that [02:53] i hadn't realized i was working on that just yet ;) [02:53] oh ya, i replied saying i could help, thats right [02:53] heh [02:53] just read your email [02:54] lol [02:54] man...digg is in the process of killing the new usernetwork [02:54] you know you're doing too much when you start forgeting you signed up for things :-) [02:55] really? [02:55] heh, and that was within the last 24 hours [02:55] nixternal: got a link for digg? [02:56] google.com [02:56] lol [02:56] lol [02:56] LaserJock: it is on the front page [02:56] www.digg.com [02:56] i almost did diff..i only created 30 of um today [02:56] i see our new quote of the day [02:56] KJay says "Wow, looks like Ubuntu is the new Apple." [02:58] that's kinda insulting. [02:58] heh [02:59] i like the poeple who are like, ubuntu and linux need to figure out how apple does all their stuff with a gui, and with linux you still have to use the terminal...just like the us gov't, always wanting to dumb things down [03:01] hmm, I've had a lot more frustration with OS X than Ubuntu [03:01] but that might be because I want OS X to behave like Ubuntu ;-) [03:02] i can't stand osx [03:02] I'm liking it a lot more after I kinda let go of Ubuntu habits [03:02] "don't try to bend the spoon" or something like that [03:03] hehe [03:04] qucksilver is awesome [03:04] in kde, i have same keyboard shortcuts as in OS X. just cause os x wont behave like kde [03:05] but unfortunately I reinstalled OS X the other day and now I don't have MS Office [03:05] which I kinda need [03:06] I feel so dirty :-) [03:06] I hate needing MS crap, grrr :( [03:07] i am glad i am in a work that doesnt require me to do MS stuff [03:08] oh my goodness [03:08] and now Firefox is crashing all the time [03:08] what a day [03:08] firefox on xp? [03:08] I started out with 2 edgy dist-upgrades going bad [03:08] OS X [03:08] i heard safari isn't like great at all? [03:08] actually no OS X browsers are that great [03:09] I've tried safari, camino, opera, and firefox [03:09] how does opera stack up? [03:09] and they all stink to varying extents [03:09] opera's not bad [03:09] but they all vary in their level of integration with OS X [03:10] excellent, now firefox won't even start up [03:10] i would say opera would be most stable among those you mentioned [03:10] its pretty consistent in most platforms ive used [03:10] even on my mobile phone [03:11] or my nintendo ds even [03:11] yeah, I like opera ok [03:11] I don't know, I've never really found a browser I've liked [03:13] ive just warmed to epi [03:13] yeah, I did for a while too [03:14] but opera has this really nasty bug of suddenly going berzerk and open up its own instance without any toolbars [03:14] nasty [03:14] well, as far as I can tell all OS X browsers have nasty tab behavior [03:14] s/opera/epi [03:15] anyways, gotta cook food. later [03:15] opera just doesn't look great in linux either [03:15] fonts rendering isnt consistent [03:18] ok, well OS X is acting real odd, like it's going to explode into tiny bits any second [03:18] I think I'll reboot [03:18] brb [03:18] :-) === LaserJock [n=mantha@ubuntu/member/laserjock] has joined #ubuntu-doc [03:24] hmm, well that was fun === tonyyarusso [n=anthony@dialup-4.158.204.35.Dial1.Chicago1.Level3.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === zenrox [n=zenrox@pool-71-120-239-162.spknwa.dsl-w.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === jenda [n=jenda@ubuntu/member/jenda] has joined #ubuntu-doc === zen-afk [n=zenrox@pool-71-120-239-162.spknwa.dsl-w.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === rob [i=Robert@freenode/staff/ubuntu.member.rob] has joined #ubuntu-doc === johnlittle [n=john@adsl-70-241-131-253.dsl.hstntx.swbell.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === bhuvan [n=bhuvan@ubuntu/member/bhuvan] has joined #ubuntu-doc === johnlittle [n=john@adsl-70-241-131-253.dsl.hstntx.swbell.net] has left #ubuntu-doc ["Leaving"] === Madpilot [n=brian@ubuntu/member/madpilot] has joined #ubuntu-doc === poningru [n=poningru@pool-71-251-119-70.tampfl.fios.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === poningru [n=poningru@pool-71-251-119-70.tampfl.fios.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-doc === Flannel [n=flannel@crlsbd-cuda5-68-66-139-207.crlsca.adelphia.net] has left #ubuntu-doc [] === robitaille [i=robitail@ubuntu/member/robitaille] has joined #ubuntu-doc === dsas [n=dean@host81-158-83-91.range81-158.btcentralplus.com] has joined #ubuntu-doc === ompaul [n=ompaul@ubuntu/member/ompaul] has joined #ubuntu-doc === ompaul [n=ompaul@ubuntu/member/ompaul] has joined #ubuntu-doc === Kamping_Kaiser [n=kgoetz@easyubuntu/docteam/kgoetz] has joined #ubuntu-doc === dsas [n=dean@host86-129-23-247.range86-129.btcentralplus.com] has joined #ubuntu-doc === lloydinho [n=andreas@192.38.119.73] has joined #ubuntu-doc === Seveas [n=seveas@ubuntu/member/seveas] has joined #ubuntu-doc === Seveas [n=seveas@ubuntu/member/seveas] has joined #ubuntu-doc === Seveas [n=seveas@ubuntu/member/seveas] has joined #ubuntu-doc === mpt [n=mpt@217.205.109.249] has joined #ubuntu-doc [12:16] right, I've basicaly decided that LP karma is mostly random... I've done nothing, zip on LP for at least a week, but I seem to have gained around 10,000 karma points... [12:36] Madpilot, that's kind of a design bug in the way karma is distributed [12:37] is it connected to activity by the teams I'm part of, or is that karma gain really just random? [12:38] Madpilot, currently if people do more work in (for example) specifications, that makes less karma available overall for (for example) bugs and translations [12:39] I just showed your complaint to sabdfl and we agreed the current approach was kinda bong :-) [12:39] so I'll talk to stub about it [12:40] heh. I know LP is very much a work-in-progress... the random nature of karma is actually quite amusing ;) [12:41] Yes, but time is one of the dimensions of design [12:41] So for example, if people learn to ignore karma now, they'll keep ignoring it even once it becomes accurate [12:43] true [01:04] I wrote a huge blogpost comparing various karma systems, if you're interested: [01:04] http://eskar.dk/andreas/blog/?p=154 [01:17] hi lloydinho [01:19] hi Kamping_Kaiser [01:21] Kamping_Kaiser, thank you for the praise on the Karma article. I was just hehing at needing to buy the book in order to have a high quality official guide. [02:30] yeah there is some irony of sorts [02:30] depends on how you interpret the statement i guess [02:32] I suppose. Though I've only read the sample chapters of the book anyway, so I'm probably not the best placed to comment. [02:35] same here [02:35] we'll see amazon reviews soon though [02:38] "Guide" is a weasel term :-) [02:57] ouch planet ubuntu demon [04:27] "At first the NUN was nothing more than an IRC channel (#ubuntu-nun on the freenode network) that we could bring a user from #kubuntu or #ubuntu into, for one-on-one work that couldn't be done in the busier support channels. Since then, it has become a popular haven for geeks and new users alike," says Rich Johnson, a NUN mentor.
