[05:21] hi Viper550 [05:22] I just got the new build of the Murrine engine, I love the new glaze style option, looks nice! [05:24] I'm gonna log back into Gnome to take a new screenshot for the wiki page, brb [05:24] screenshot Viper550 ? [06:08] but I'd rather see an animated GDM [06:09] see, you have your gdm [06:09] enter details [06:09] and you get this kind of splash on top of the gdm [06:09] hmm, hard to explain :) [06:09] I see, but then would the GDM itself change or would the splash simply be tossed on top of it? [06:10] the gdm changes [06:10] If that is technically possible, I'd be all for it [06:10] :) [06:10] Right now, people first see a GRUB, then they see a usplash loading, and then they enter their password and then they see _another_ loading screen. [06:10] So if it's possible to do something about it, I'm fine with that. [06:10] well there is a cheat for it. just take the picture of the gdm and put your animation up there [06:11] but I'm not sure if its possible [06:11] That's possible, but it would break when someone'd change the GDM. [06:11] You also need to take into account different resolutions. [06:11] hmm [06:11] I'll google it [06:12] But just a normal splash isnt really a solution [06:12] cause ppl dont really like it [06:12] ( poll on ubuntuforums ) [06:12] If there isn't any other way, then it's the only solution. [06:12] Also, link me to that poll if you still have the link [06:13] http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=206465&highlight=splash+edgy [06:13] there must be another way :) [06:14] here is a nice idea too : While loging in you see some kind of animated GDM, while the desktop loads in the background. When it's finished loading, GDM smoothly fades to a fully loaded desktop... [06:14] Reply With Quote [06:15] hehe, I copied too much :) [06:17] Maybe I should make an animation of that sometime [06:18] somekind of xubuntu ? [06:18] I'd like to help you with that [06:20] msikma I took a look at the source of the xubuntu splash and I edited it slightly [06:20] I haven't seen Xubuntu's splash yet [06:23] well, its like a running mice in the xubuntu logo [06:23] its animated ;) [06:24] I can send it to you msikma :) [06:24] Sure [06:26] its not working or anything aight ;) [06:28] Can you send it to me now? I also think the splash can only have 1-bit transparency. [08:57] Pff. Limitations, limitations, limitations... [08:57] And the boot-up background color is always the same? [08:57] Er, *not always the same [08:58] I'm sorry we have these limitations, maybe I can try and alleviate them or something. [08:59] I'll see if I can get a benevolent developer over at #ubuntu-devel to lurk in here to maybe say those sort of things every now and then. [08:59] Whether something is possible or not [09:15] Currently, what is possible is quite well documented. [09:16] Newer concepts will require good speccing and a decent following to implement. === Pyrotica [n=Sunergos@213-250.207-68.se.res.rr.com] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [09:33] Greetings Pyrotica [09:38] hello [09:44] New here? [09:46] Yeah, and it's been almost a decade since I've used irc. It's amazing what you forget. [09:47] indeed... [09:47] good place for brainstorming however. [09:47] same for myself... but the Ubuntu devs and such use IRC quite extensively. [09:48] I'm sure. Just taking a look around the ubuntu channels, really. I do enjoy some themeing work, so maybe I will be able to contribute. [09:48] What aspects of theming are you familiar with?> [09:48] Cut and paste :) [09:49] Laf. [09:49] most of what I have done was with gdm themes. [09:49] GTK or Metacity? [09:49] Ahh yes... [09:49] The documentation is lacking in that department from what I have found. [09:49] Although I have managed to get a few airborne. [09:49] And I have learned some of the internals. [09:50] but all of my gtk and metacity themes have seen the ctrl-x ctrl-v intimatly. [09:50] laf [09:50] for me it was quite a bit of experimentation. [09:50] I think that is how it starts for everyone. [09:51] With gdm themes, I started with the dapper login, and the login box stretches wout and looks less than perfect when you have an timed login, and thats where it started. [09:52] Well the gdm end is largely png based. [09:52] I've probably done a dozen since then, with varing degrees of originality. [09:52] I have been trying to research a little more on the metacity theming using drawing techniques, but there are some details that are tough to learn. [09:53] GTK is a nightmare because of the legacy kludges you need to work in. [09:53] But pretty straightforwards. [09:53] well, the images I could handle, but I was not at all familure with xml when I started. [09:53] It's nice having it now though, eh? [09:53] Very nice to be able to look at everything and understand it. [09:55] It's still a little hit and miss sometimes, when you learn it by example, it can make it a little difficult to get the overall picture. the basic rules were easy and the structures great, but when I start trying to place things, well, I do alot of testing. [09:55] Would you be at all interesting in getting a wiki started? [09:55] s/interesting/interested [09:56] For gdm theming? [09:56] Yes. [09:56] Sure. [09:56] That would be wonderful. [09:56] You know about this resource I assume: [09:56] I'm not much of a technical writer, but I can try. [09:57] http://www.coccia.com/blog/index.php?p=51&more=1 [09:57] If you get the information in there, I will happily edit it when I get time. [09:57] Ubuntu specifics are good [09:57] http://www.coccia.com/blog/index.php?p=51&more=1 [09:58] GRR [09:58] not that one... [09:58] http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/Tutorials [09:58] Those two links are quite a good starting point, and perhaps you can locate something you didn't already know. [09:59] Yes, I have. Both actually. The gnome link is the only reason I managed to package what I had. If you'd like a link I can show you one of my favored one. [09:59] one/ones [10:00] that would be great if you could add the links to the documentation section [10:00] in artwork [10:01] I meant a theme, I haven't found any other resources really, other than other themes. === troy_s is out.
