garnomadoes edgy offer an easy option to use xgl?01:25
garnomayou know, like suse, mandriva, or other desktop-oriented distros01:25
tsengno, its not as easy as suse01:26
garnomatseng: on purpose, or is it just not a priority?01:27
tsengnot a priority01:27
tsengif you want to get that control panel thing working on ubuntu, be our guest01:27
garnomatseng: what if we just added a script?01:28
tsengwhat sort of script?01:28
robertjshould i file a bug stating that xrandr should be on a per-monitor basis?01:28
garnomatseng: a simple bash script which follows all the xgl installation steps01:28
tsengthere arent really any steps01:29
tsengjust changing the X symlink01:29
garnomatseng: i mean we shouldn't necessarily implement it in a control panel if it's not a priority yet01:29
garnomatseng: oh, so xgl is there in edgy, after all!01:29
garnomatseng: that's nice01:29
tsengthe control panel is in suse01:29
tsengand I am not sure about this we business01:29
garnomatseng: i know01:29
tseng90% of the control panel configures compiz01:31
tsenganyway01:31
tsengour xorg includes aiglx, which is more the direction we are going for a default01:31
tsengxgl is there for those who are interested01:31
=== rc55 [n=rc55@82.152.146.214] has joined #ubuntu-devel
=== bluefoxicy installs avahi but can't figure out how to share files
bluefoxicyscp time01:33
garnomatseng: we still lack drivers for aiglx01:34
garnomatseng: xgl is an imperative for now for many01:35
garnomatseng: so i'd say it's not just for "those who are interested"01:35
tsengit is hardly an imperative at all01:35
tsengxgl doesnt work on most hardware either01:35
garnomatseng: so you mean simply chaging the symlink also brings compiz?01:36
tsengno, I don't01:36
garnomatseng: then i guess we do need a script01:36
LaserJockit's hard to install compiz?01:36
SurakIs hwdata still being used?01:36
tsengyou can write a script01:36
tsengit isnt a "we"01:36
tsenga package script shouldnt change user xinit files01:37
tsenghttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager01:39
SurakI intentionally broke hwdata's videoaliases file, however "db_get xserver-xorg/config/device/driver " still gives me correct results.01:39
Surakwhich means the video drivers database is coming from somewhere else01:40
nictukuhi, what package updated fstab to reflect uuid changes?01:40
crimsuncurrently, volumeid.01:41
garnomai didn't say "we should", i said "we need" :)01:42
nictukuI'll confirm that, but I think the inst scripts 'removed' the swap fs line01:42
SurakI thought that hwdata was used only to determine the video driver - if this is not the case, why it's still there?01:43
garnomatseng: it could backup them01:43
garnomatseng: what do you mean 90% of the control panel configures compiz?01:43
crimsunmine's present:  UUID=c2ce6095-841a-4ec6-8ff4-a0c0c1a43920 none swap sw 0 001:43
LaserJockgarnoma: I think the problem was with the "we" part not the "should/need" part01:43
tsenggarnoma: i meant what i said, the main purpose of the panel is to set gconf keys to control compiz behaviour01:43

Burgworkgarnoma, the only things that don't work with aiglx are nvidia cards now01:46
Burgworkati has updated their drivers01:46

nictukuafter restoring the original fstab file, I ran "volumeid.postinst configure" again and it indeed preserved the swap file as expected. the changelog.Debian doesn't indicate any related fix in previous versions, though01:56
