[12:12] Going excellently... [12:13] loverly! i've been trying to psych myself up to getting some work done here again. [12:19] did any community created stuff make it into dapper? i was helping with the release before that and there wasn't much communication between this group and canonical. [12:19] Yeah, several themes === zebedee [n=zebedee@88-109-44-180.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [12:20] cool. [12:21] And, we've got several new themes for Edgy coming along as well: Peace, Dash, Blubuntu, and my theme Tropic [12:21] i'm still most interested in SVG stuff, so i'll have to catch up with things on the wiki and see if there's anything i can do. [12:23] nice... i've been patiently waiting all day to see knot-2 show up. are the new themes in the main repository or do we have our own CVS-type setup now? [12:24] not quite yet, go to the wiki and you can find links to the ones in progress [12:24] okey dokey. :) [12:26] have any of you heard if knot-2 is still expected today? they're busy arguing about sound card drivers in the main channel. [12:26] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/EdgyArtworkPlan/ThemeTeams [12:26] But from what I hear, Knot 2 Kubuntu has a new default theme [12:27] cool. i've never really liked KDE, but i put knot-1 kubuntu on my canonical laptop and forced myself to use it for a while and now i'm really digging it. [12:30] Tropic looks nice btw. [12:33] Thanks, that's my theme! Wondering how it started? [12:34] sure! :) [12:34] Started out as a Silver, Green, and Orange theme using the gFlat engine [12:34] I got all that from the lamps on my network router... [12:35] heh [12:35] But then, I switched it over to Ubuntulooks [12:35] i actually like color combos like that. [12:36] But then, some people complained about saturation and stuff like that, so I then tried it with just Orange, changing the direction alot. [12:36] Tropic is now a tribute to the original Ubuntulooks theme from Flight 4 of Dapper (before it got caramelled) [12:37] yeah, i was kinda hoping it'd stay on the orange side. [12:38] Then, I prepared to possibly move it to Murrine by porting it to Candido [12:39] that's where i get lost with theming - how the different engines fit in. [12:39] Murrine is actually pretty nice [12:40] are the engines basically the widgets and different themes just color variations? [12:41] yes. [12:41] gotcha. [12:43] that's what i really wanted to push when i was overseeing things (breezy-era) - not necessarily more engines, but as many color variations as possible. [12:44] this group was created a little too late for breezy though, and i had to drop out of things shortly after that release. [12:45] oh... [12:45] But, every engine offers unique options and appearances [12:47] yeah. it would be nice though (and i think i've heard it's in the works) if the end user could pick a theme and choose their own color scheme - as you can do in KDE and windows. [12:48] and i'm really looking forward to cairo-powered themes. [12:48] That might be sorta a reality with QtCurve... [12:48] But, Ubuntulooks, ClearLooks 2, and Murrine are Cairo [12:48] really? even in dapper? [12:49] Yes. But I don't think Clearlooks is. But on Fedora Core 5 (my distro), it comes with Cairo Clearlooks...AS THE DEFAULT THEME! [12:52] Hi I am not sure how I got here and I am very new at Ubuntu, but I like it alot... I have a question if anyone is free to help... I am trying to use evolution mail and I keep gettin a msge saying @cold not send msge, broken pipe'... Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix it, please. Thanks in advance Z [12:53] hey zebedee - you probably want to be over in the regular ubuntu channel. [12:54] Told you I was new at it, its supposed to read ...could not send msge.. How do I get there Heeeeeeeeelp... [12:54] i don't use IRC much myself, let's see if this works.... [12:54] try typing "/join #ubuntu" [12:55] without quotes [12:55] lol...type it where? [12:55] where you're typing everything else here. :) [12:56] it should open a new window or tab for the ubuntu channel. [10:14] I actually have never seen the vista buttons before [10:15] ever heard of an artist that was too lazy to steal? [10:15] :p [10:16] i only noted because i recently saw some screenshots... [10:16] in the window deco you can turn on several different style buttons, one of which is "vista" but they look totally different [10:16] and there was some similarity there. i actually don't mind much about that sort of thing. [10:17] has mark been chatting with you regarding the look much? [10:17] I made them as I did but it was the only thing I had never done with a button before :-) [10:17] just trying to make something new [10:17] laf [10:17] yep, sometimes it happens that way [10:17] troy_s: now and again we have discussed it, but it is more general like "I like that a lot!" [10:18] nothing nearly as specific as frank is getting, I think [10:18] at first he was skeptical of the purple [10:18] but I think he is convinved now :-) [10:18] I have received some really great remarks, actually [10:19] the violet is quite refereshing and at the very least it pulls it away from kde [10:19] which is nice. [10:19] i would hope so. [10:19] it seems to please everyone, and best of all, it does not totally piss anyone off [10:19] my only thought is that you need to coordinate the packaging. [10:19] blah ... you need to try and be willing to fail to really achieve anything. [10:19] such is life. [10:20] everything that I have done as far as artwork is concerned is already packaged and in knot2 [10:20] how goes the packaging tones... i can see a fuddle coming up if it ends up blue hell with [10:20] a violet experience. [10:20] the small pieces are included upstream (I get a kde dev to include my art in the package they maintain) [10:20] i think frank is going to push a crap of stuff into knot3 [10:20] he better, or there will not be time to test it [10:21] well his tightrope is a little thinner than yours [10:21] ;) [10:21] as you can imagine. [10:21] yepp [10:22] I told him that things get critical in the next few weeks he should call me [10:22] well realistically everyone running edgy gets the daily updates [10:22] so it isn't like a point to release etc... [10:22] but yes, i believe it is his plan to get what he can into edgy3 as a deadline. [10:22] not that i can say for certain. [10:23] he is one of the more industrious fellows though, so i suspect he is well on it. [10:23] hehe, no doubt [10:24] the guy has done a crazy amount of work [10:24] he is a living adam ant song..."don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?" [10:24] to really set up future cycle releases. [10:24] which is great... [10:24] and the 80/20 ratio will generally provide enough difference to pull a good deal in line, assuming he can get it up the ladder... [10:25] which is probably about 90% of his effort at this point one would expect. [10:25] its that very delicate tightrope ;) [10:26] I think that the next conf. in california would be a good time to sit down and figure out what we learned from edgy [10:27] i believe that is the plan [10:27] although i know not my schedule etc... [10:29] i haven't chatted to mark in about a week [10:29] i think he is on one of his busy weeks. my schedule stinks of the late. [10:29] weekends only for me, in very selective time plans. [10:29] he was on vacation this week (back now though, got an email) [10:29] yes it appears he returned a couple of days ago. [10:29] better too much work than too little ;-) [10:30] arguable there :) [10:30] not to mention that i have yet to figure out the most effective way of dealing with email gluts.
