[07:07] ping [07:07] which splash? usplash or logon splash? [07:07] joejaxx? [07:09] troy_s: yes [07:09] the usplash [07:10] which one? [07:10] do you have a screenshot? [07:10] because one is a temporary placeholder [07:10] troy_s: i meant the dapper one:) [07:10] usplash in dapper is msikma [07:11] oh ok [07:11] all known credits are in the archives [07:11] of the wiki [07:11] does he or she come on often? [07:11] troy_s: oh i did not know that [07:11] he. and yes you can contact him via the mailing list, launchpad, etc. [07:12] oh alright [07:12] i was just wondering because i develop Fluxbuntu and i was wondering if he could help make a splash [07:12] troy_s: right now it looks like this [07:13] troy_s: btw i am graphically-disinclined [07:13] troy_s: http://fluxbuntu.org/usplash.png [07:13] i am sure he would be interested in helping you. [07:13] troy_s: oh ok :) [07:13] he collaborated on the edgy usplash [07:13] but of course, most likely, all of the edgy artwork will revert to dapper's look. [07:14] troy_s: oh ok [07:14] i have not seen the new edgy splash actually [07:14] troy_s, no new look for edgy, hmm? Too bad, but I'm not terribly surprised. [07:14] usplash has been revised and updated by sev eas in this channel [07:14] madpilot -- its a political fest. [07:14] i am sure there will be a last minute rush to get something out the door. [07:15] this has been the art team's shakedown release; DocTeam went thru this w/ Breezy then got it's sh*t together for Dapper [07:15] joejaxx you know of the newer usplash implementation? [07:15] then kind of slumped for Edgy... :| [07:15] troy_s: no i do not [07:15] madpilot -- it is a little more than getting shit together. [07:15] troy_s: you mean the one that supports 256 colours? [07:15] joejaxx yes [07:15] and animation [07:16] wow really? [07:16] is there any documentation on it? [07:16] joejaxx yes. it is quite capable now. your best information source is sev eas in this channel. [07:16] ah ok [07:17] Madpilot -- ultimately there is one client and his aesthetic is a bit tough to locate without an extensive bit of design book citing. [07:18] troy_s, true - at least documentation is a bit more objective [07:18] currently there are a number of issues to resolve, some of which _might_ get addressed at the next summit. [07:19] Madpilot well ultimately the ubuntu distribution probably needs to seriously evaluate exactly what it is. the name, the ethics, etc, all connote a certain directionality to design -- even though there isn't a concrete outline / motif in place. [07:19] Madpilot further, in order to be distinctive, it is going to require an overarching style, unless everyone is happy heading into the "middle gray" school of thought. [07:20] "corporate grey" :) [07:20] Madpilot exactly. [07:20] "corporate blue" would be more accurate for desktops [07:21] Madpilot well blue is well overdone [07:21] Madpilot and anyone who attempts to bring up the "psychology of colour" should do a little research, as all research in that area has yielded completely different results. [07:21] colour is learned and societal. === troy_s [n=aphorism@d206-116-6-170.bchsia.telus.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === troy_s [n=aphorism@d206-116-6-170.bchsia.telus.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [07:32] well that was fun [07:47] :) [07:48] troy_s: you want to see two wallpapers that are included? [07:48] for dapper? [07:48] wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Archives should have them [07:48] or are you speaking for fluxbox? [07:48] for fluxbuntu [07:48] oh yes... i would love to. [07:49] http://fluxbuntu.org/sneakpeek.png [07:49] http://fluxbuntu.org/sneakpeek2.png [07:50] flux is lovely. i was a diehard blackbox fan for the longest time. [07:50] :) [07:51] i though the default look of flux was similar to the default look of blackbox? [07:51] cthulhu look or whatever it was. [07:51] yes that theme is called choke [07:51] the default one is MEta [07:51] Meta [07:52] choke? [07:52] yes [07:54] joejaxx do you have anyone who is responsible for the artwork in flux? [07:54] because i know that there are probably a few people who are adept in the team who might enjoy tackling such a project. [07:55] anyways, i must be off to bed due to earlier call tomorrow. [07:55] yes there are people but anyone is welcome to contribute :) [07:55] be good joejaxx [07:55] troy_s: oh alright [07:55] troy_s: yes i will [07:55] joejaxx contact the list [07:55] troy_s: goodnight :) [07:55] troy_s: ok [07:55] joejaxx -- pretty certain that msikma might be able to help you out a little -- even provide a derivative of the edgy usplash [07:56] which would be nice in terms of consistency... [11:21] it is going quite well [11:21] Good to hear [11:21] Are you the only core dev? [11:21] i am going to be releasing Revision 2 in two days [11:21] fschoep: i am the lead developer but there are others on the development team [11:22] I see [11:22] Do you have a project page (too lazy to search right now) ? [11:22] fluxbuntu.org [11:22] I should've known :) [11:22] :) [11:22] Ah, nice site - very lightweight as well with the whites and greens [11:23] thanks [11:23] yes it is [11:23] Who created the design? [11:23] it survived a digg effect [11:23] Whoa :) [11:23] fschoep: it is an open source design i picked it out to compliment the lightwieghtness of fluxbuntu [11:23] I see, good choice though [11:24] Have you considered tweaking the CSS a bit? [11:24] which parts? [11:24] The light green link color should be a tad bit darker to improve readability [11:24] interesting [11:24] i will take that into consideration [11:24] i will change that tonight [11:25] I usually use a tool to evaluate such things: [11:25] http://www.snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html [11:25] wow thanks [11:26] No problem, don't spend too much time twiddling with the colors, your distribution is what counts :) [11:27] For reference, your background is FFFFFF and the link color itself is "8cd749" [11:27] Enter it and see the result :) [11:28] You might want to try the websafe #009900 color for the link [11:28] Anyway, let's get to the interesting part [11:28] Do you have some screenshots up? [11:28] fschoep: yes [11:28] for the new one [11:29] http://fluxbuntu.org/sneakpeek.png & sneakpeek2.png [11:29] the default is the second one [11:29] but the firstone is included also [11:29] first one* [11:29] wallpaper wise i mean [11:31] Looking good! [11:31] I notice icons on the desktop, is that a new feature in Fluxbox? [11:32] no [11:32] that is rox [11:32] I see [11:32] and to make an icon on there [11:32] all you do it drag sometihng to there [11:33] fschoep: it can be turned off if it is not to your liking [11:33] Oh, I think I'd like it [11:33] :) [11:33] I always tweaked my menu file to have apps right in my menu when I opened it, but this is nice as well [11:33] well the menu updates in fluxbuntu [11:33] I used Fluxbox at release 0.9.7 I think [11:34] like for the alpha rev1 release i installed firefox and it came up in my menu afterwards [11:34] fschoep: oh ok [11:34] Auto menu updates is nice, my distribution (I think Mandrake 8.2 or so) didn't have that at the time for Fluxbox :) [11:35] :) [11:36] troy_s: Are you there by chance? [11:37] msikma: Are you there? [11:40] Seveas: Are you there? [11:40] I seem a bit desperate for a chat, but this is normal, folks :) [11:40] fschoep: i think everyone is away at the current moment :\ [11:40] You're here, right ;) ? [11:40] yeah :) [11:40] i am just in alot of channels [11:41] ~40 [11:41] That's a lot indeed, I'm only in here [11:41] all on different servers [11:41] fschoep: :) [11:41] Whoa and you're not going insane? [11:41] nope lol [11:41] When I started in July I hated IRC [11:41] I'm getting used to it slowly [11:41] I might start to like it even [11:42] fschoep: :) [12:01] troy_s: I know it's the other way around usually, but if you have a few minutes...
