malice_ | ok on my laptop the two computers that tell me my networkconnection in the top right near the speaker/ calander. Well I deleted it and now when I went to add it put it in the middle of the bar example Computer/network then a bar | then the volume setting the the calander then log out it put it on the other side of the bar and I want it back in with calander etc | 02:28 |
malice_ | did I make any sense? | 02:28 |
malice_ | :) | 02:28 |
Nailor | Nope =) | 02:28 |
malice_ | ok | 02:29 |
malice_ | on the top bar | 02:29 |
malice_ | you see the two computers for networks | 02:29 |
malice_ | ? | 02:29 |
Nailor | Yeah | 02:29 |
Nailor | =) | 02:29 |
malice_ | ok | 02:29 |
malice_ | you see how it is near the speaker | 02:29 |
Nailor | Or well, I'm using the network manager, but i know what your talking about | 02:29 |
malice_ | or calander | 02:29 |
Nailor | yeah | 02:29 |
malice_ | ok | 02:30 |
malice_ | well you see the bar that separates that stuff | 02:30 |
Nailor | Yup | 02:30 |
malice_ | it will ok well I deleted the network icon | 02:30 |
malice_ | dont ask :) | 02:30 |
malice_ | when I added it back | 02:30 |
malice_ | it put it back on the other side of the bar | 02:30 |
malice_ | I want it back with the volume etc.... | 02:31 |
Nailor | oh | 02:31 |
Nailor | weird | 02:31 |
Nailor | Unless those are separate applications | 02:31 |
malice_ | no it used to be over there | 02:31 |
malice_ | until I removed it | 02:31 |
Nailor | You're trying to add the Network Monitor+ | 02:31 |
Nailor | ? | 02:31 |
malice_ | over there not where it is now yes | 02:31 |
malice_ | network connection | 02:32 |
malice_ | you are using the network manager? | 02:34 |
Nailor | Yup | 02:34 |
malice_ | whats that I am new to this kinda | 02:34 |
Nailor | Extremely handly tool for managing wifi connections | 02:34 |
Nailor | *handy | 02:35 |
jldugger | does it work with hibernate? | 02:35 |
malice_ | Nailor is it already installed? | 02:35 |
malice_ | or do I need to apt-get? | 02:35 |
Nailor | jldugger: Don't know, it works well with suspend so it might work well with hibernate too | 02:36 |
Nailor | My hibernate doesn't work, so I can't really test :P | 02:36 |
jldugger | doesnt work? | 02:36 |
Nailor | malice_: Yeah, you need to install it | 02:36 |
jldugger | my suspend doesnt work :P | 02:36 |
Nailor | jldugger: My machine doesn't come back from hibernation | 02:36 |
Nailor | mwah :) | 02:36 |
Nailor | malice_: The package is networkmanager-gnome | 02:36 |
malice_ | ty | 02:37 |
Nailor | Whoops, network-manager-gnome | 02:37 |
malice_ | is it under add remove or do I need to apt-get? | 02:37 |
jldugger | malice_, but if you're just looking to move the notifcation tray, right click on the bar that seperates those things | 02:37 |
Nailor | malice_: You need to use synaptic or apt-get/aptitude | 02:37 |
Nailor | sudo aptitude install network-manager-gnome | 02:37 |
Nailor | After that, reboot and it should work | 02:37 |
jldugger | its sad, but the commandline is so much easier to communicate than trying to make synaptic go | 02:38 |
malice_ | I will try it brb | 02:38 |
jldugger | actually | 02:38 |
jldugger | its in add/remove | 02:38 |
Nailor | oh. didn't know :) | 02:38 |
malice_ | to late | 02:39 |
malice_ | apt-get | 02:39 |
jldugger | its all the same | 02:39 |
malice_ | :) | 02:39 |
Nailor | jldugger: Yeah, when giving instructions, the commandline sure is more convenient | 02:39 |
Nailor | Though it's not hard to say "install network-manager-gnome with synaptic" either :) | 02:39 |
jldugger | but we always hear "this is the year of the linux desktop" and then everyone's guides and faqs say "apt-get install kerblah" | 02:40 |
Nailor | =) | 02:40 |
Nailor | Plus using apt-get is stupid in a way too | 02:40 |
Nailor | Compared to aptitude | 02:41 |
malice_ | * Stopping DHCP client manager... [fail] | 02:41 |
malice_ | mmmm | 02:41 |
malice_ | it all installed just noticed that | 02:41 |
crimsun | (edgy's aptitude and apt-get are much more similar) | 02:41 |
Nailor | You don't have that prior installing network-manager | 02:41 |
jldugger | dhcp? | 02:41 |
Nailor | That's why it fails since it doesn't have a thing to stop | 02:41 |
Nailor | DHCP client manager (dhcpd) | 02:41 |
malice_ | ok nothing to worry about then? | 02:41 |
Nailor | The normal dhclient3 is there beforehand | 02:41 |
Nailor | Nothing to worry. | 02:42 |
malice_ | ok when I rebot wil I see anything diffrent on this? | 02:43 |
malice_ | or do I need to man | 02:43 |
jldugger | https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/NetworkManager | 02:43 |
malice_ | ty | 02:43 |
jldugger | so either his problem is solved, or its horribly broken | 02:52 |
