O2_hello10:19
O2_I wonder if we need to install something else to improve the video card? 10:21
NailorWhat video card?10:21
O2_when playing 3d games, I find it slower than in windows10:21
O2_mine laptop's video card is intel GMA900, 128MB10:21
NailorWell, Intel offers some drivers for the video cards10:22
O2_really, what's its name?10:22
NailorWell, xserver-xorg-driver-i810 should be in repos10:25
mjg59The Intel drivers are the same as the ones we ship10:25
NailorAnd it's installed default (if I'm right)10:25
NailorO2_: It just might be that the intel's drivers aren't performing as well in linus as in windows10:26
O2_my laptop: intel 915 chipset, not 81010:27
O2_: (    what a sad news10:27
NailorThat package supports i9xx too10:27

O2_apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-driver-i810........................had been installed by default!10:30
O2_what a bad news................10:31
O2_what video card is in your notebook? I wonder10:31
=== Fujitsu [n=Fujitsu@ubuntu/member/fujitsu] has joined #ubuntu-laptop
NailorNvidia 7400 go10:36
O2_how is it under linux ?10:37
O2_I wonder if GMA900 will be better running in fedora core10:39
=== sivang [i=sivan@ubuntu/member/sivang] has left #ubuntu-laptop []
NailorWell, both use the same drivers.10:40
NailorSince the drivers are provided by X.org, not the distribution. There's propably no speed advantage between distributions10:40
NailorMy nvidia is working nowdays well. When I bough the laptop, the driver support was poor10:41
O2_what cpu is your laptop then10:46
NailorCore Duo 1,8GHz10:47
O2_did u know how to view the cpu speed in ubuntu10:50
NailorFor example with cpufreq-applet10:55
NailorFrom Add to panel... -> CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor10:56
NailorAnd if you want more detailed info, just cat /proc/cpuinfo10:56
O2oh, thanks. I got it    598.xxx MHz!!   but my CPU is Pentium M 1.7GHz!  why it's slowed down11:04
NailorSomeone else had similiar problems with his toshiba11:05
NailorApparently that's a kernel/bios bug, but I can't guarantee it 11:05
O2I think it's because PM cpu would do that for saving battery11:06
O2but how to disable this feature11:06
NailorThat's not propably the problem11:09
NailorSince proc/cpuinfo should report the native frequency11:09
O2but my laptop is very cool now I find.    that must be it's running under low speed11:11
NailorWell it propably runs at 600MHz11:11
NailorBut the problem is that it's not going to run faster, since the system thinks the maximum is 60011:11
NailorBut anyway, I have to go now. :)11:11
NailorTry, for example, updating bios to latest revision. Might help11:11
O2model name      : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.70GHz11:12
O2cpu MHz         : 598.65111:12
NailorYeah, the latter (cpu MHz) should be 1.70 too11:12
NailorLike in mine:11:13
Nailormodel name      : Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2400  @ 1.83GHz11:13
Nailorstepping        : 811:13
Nailorcpu MHz         : 1829.14311:13
Nailor(my processors runs atm at 900Mhz)11:13
NailorBut anyway, got to go now. ->11:13
O2update bios.......    I don't know if my mb's bios is newest11:13
O2ok,  see you!11:13

tormod Hi, I am debugging some hibernation trouble on my laptop, and I am looking through hibernate.sh, prepare.sh, resume.d. Can anyone tell me why laptop-mode is stopped when the machine resumes again?11:27
tormodok an easier question: pressing the sleep button does nothing. From syslog: gnome-power-manager: Doing nothing because the suspend button has been pressed. I can not find any setting in Power Management Preferences to change this. Am I missing something?11:37
