luckyedHi guys! I need to know how to configure local device access for ltsp clients in Ubuntu 6.10. Anyone knows where to activate this?09:35
cbx33luckyed: it should be on by default09:35
luckyedTried but it didn't work. I logged in remotely, plugged in a usb stick, but nothing happened. Also couldn't find any entries in /media or /mnt. Isn't the lts.conf used anymore?09:37
cbx33hmm.... ogra would know more09:41

cbx33hmmm09:47
cbx33I'm not really the best one to ask about it........but I know ogra would know for sure09:47
ograluckyed, hey ... on a fresh edubuntu 6.10 install the localdev access is enabled by default via /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf09:49

cbx33ogra: ok09:53
ograluckyed, how did you install ? did you by chance use the liveCD which doesnt install ltsp ? 09:55
luckyedYes, I used the live cd, but then installed ltsp-server-standalone and openssh-server and then ran ltsp-client-setup. Ltsp is working great, but there's no lts.conf in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ and when plugging in usb sticks they don't get mounted.09:57

ograjust not 24h before a release :) since we rebuild them often then :)11:10
pips1ogra: what happens if use rysnc and it gets rebuilt in the middle? is that a problem?11:10
luckyedI guess the reason I can't log in as root via the console is that this should be disabled. I remember that was the case with ltsp4.2...11:11
cbx33heheh11:11
ograit is disabled through the locked password which you unlocked with the above command11:11

luckyedIs it maybe possible to mount that stick manually after it's discovered. The file in /var/run/drives is sth like a device file in /dev or am I missing sth? Then I could maybe mount it with an ordinary mount?12:30
ograhmm, the only thing i can imagine would be to reboot the server, but that wuld likely only work around the preoblem if it works12:30
luckyedOr, to say it more clearly. How does a drive get mounted once it appeared in /var/run/drives? With fusermount? Maybe I could try and find the missing part if I only knew where about to look...12:31
ogranope12:31
ograit gets mounted by udev which then triggers the mount in the users session on the server12:32

cbx33hehe07:06
cbx33good call highvoltage 07:06
highvoltagepips1: sed is a bit overkill :)07:06

cbx33pips1, mind if I take a look?#07:06

cbx33pawman, I think you can setup your own internal servers07:06
pawmanInstant messaging will work07:06
highvoltagepawman: yes07:06
cbx33if you just want a central admin to message someone then Student Control Panel does that in edubutnu in edgy07:06
highvoltagepawman: by default a jabber server doesn't talk to other jabber servers07:06

sbalneavDoes anyone know a way to coerce firefox into changing the "close tab" button back to one on the right hand side, as opposed to a close tab button on each tab?07:45
sbalneavBecause re-training muscle memory is a pain.07:45
highvoltagesbalneav: I don't think there's an option for that yet :-/07:50
sbalneav!07:50
sbalneavFoo07:50
sbalneavI know there was a spec for "tab unification", i.e. make tabs behave the same in all applications.  What would be REALLY nice would be if there was a setting in the control panel somewhere, where you could say: [ ]  individual close button [ ]  single close on left [X]  single close on right.07:52
sbalneavThen all tab interfaces would conform to that.07:52
sbalneavthat would be saweet.07:53

cbx33ogra, I'll also run another test tomorrow witha  fresh cd build10:20
cbx33ogra, what do I do about the usplash image10:21
nixternalwell, these are the Kubuntu release notes, which thank god, haven't changed to much since beta10:21
cbx33they cannot both share a 256 colour palette10:21
ogramake one with black background and only the logo as is 10:21
ograand index that to 16 cols10:21
nixternalwhich reminds me, anyone check out the latest KDE Edu updates, and the cool new Oxygen icons ;)10:21
=== nixternal hids
stelisBonBon: Emacs has a steep learning curve 10:21
cbx33ok10:21
nixternala very steep learning curve10:21
cbx33i thought you said that the palettes all had to 10:22
cbx33match10:22
BonBonTheJonI'll just use Kate10:22

cbx33the 16 colour usplash fallback image10:23
stelisBonBon: I'll update the pastebin before I finish, so that you've got the latest10:23
cbx33it can't have the same pallete as the 256 colour ones10:23
Seveascbx33, correct10:23
cbx33ok10:23
Seveasit needs a 16-color palette10:23
cbx33only curious10:24
Seveascbx33, and for the sake of yourown sanity: son't use a .png progressbar on the 16-color theme10:24
cbx33what should I use?10:24
cbx33I'm just gonna supply ogra with the base image?10:24
Seveasjust specify 2 colors in the theme to draw a simple progress bar10:24
Seveasogra, btw: I finally received the usplash artwork in usable form 10:25
cbx33ogra, 16 colour doesn't look bad as it is10:25
cbx33are you sure want the black background?10:25
Seveasif you need something done for the edubuntu splash, let me know and I'll do it first thing tomorrow10:25
cbx33I'll send you both10:25

=== pips1 googles around for netgear F311 linux 2.6 kernel module and can't make heads or tails of it

pips1I had a look to see if anyone else has filed a bug related to NICs... nothing. Only bug 31914 might be even remotely in the area of the problem, but not really. I'm out of my depth.10:43
pips1I'm off for today, cu tomorrow10:47
sbalneavogra: From the posts on edubuntu-users, looks like LDAP's gonna be a biiiiig priority in MV.10:48
ograsbalneav: i hope so :)10:49
ograthats one of my targets 10:49
lucasvoyeah, cool!10:49
sbalneavWho else would be a driver on that one?10:49
sbalneavTollef?10:49
lucasvoI managed to install phpldapadmin, setup pam ldap, but it somehow doesn't really work yet10:49
ograwhiprish states it explicitly on the UDS wikipage10:49
lucasvoI'd be glad if ubuntu could help out10:49
ogra*whiprush10:50
sbalneavWhuprish10:50
ogratollef will be the most knowledgeable for it i guess10:50
ograbut we have the best people there for the task 10:50
ograthom may is coming, he's a great server guy10:50
ogramoquist is a great ldap guy ...10:51
ograi'd say we have the creme de la creme :) how can we miss :)10:51
sbalneavMy thoughts exactly.10:52
sbalneavIt's a slamdunk10:52
stelisogra: Could you post a link for that UDS page? I was actually thinking about writing a spec for LDAP support...10:55
stelisBut it sounds like people are well ahead already10:55
ograhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDeveloperSummitMountainView11:00
stelisogra: Thanks.11:01
ograwe'll need two specs, a general one for an ldap/kerberos setup for ubuntu and a more specific one for a proper preconfiguration for edubuntu setups ...11:02
Burgworkogra: I am going to be writing an LDAP spec11:03
ograone for a network authentication client setup is already done since several releases, but was never implemented properly11:03
ograBurgwork: funny, me too :)11:03
Burgworkgiven I just went through serious pain at work setting it up11:03
ograwe'll drown in ldap specs i guess :)11:03
ograthere are so many people intrested in it this time11:03
Burgworkas long as we only write one11:03
Burgworkwhiprush and wasabi are expecting me to write the specs11:04
ograwe'll need two as i said above11:04
=== LaserJock just thinks about more group driven stuff
ograa general one and one for the specisfic setup changes ... 11:04
ograat least from an edubuntu POV11:04
Burgworkstelis: can you create the framework and then I can edit as needed11:04
Burgworkstelis: for the general LDAP one11:04
=== ogra goes for some relaxing before he starts teh next testing runs
