_MMA_troy_s: Is the murrine engine going to be packaged for Feisty?04:13
troy_s_mma_ wrong guy to ask here.04:38
_MMA_:)04:43
_MMA_Hmm... Ok. Ill ask around devel. If not, we'll package it.04:44

_MMA_klepas: pong01:12
klepaswhat is your connection to murrina?01:13
klepasMurrine, rather01:13
_MMA_Not anything besides Ubuntu Studio wants to use it as their main engine.01:16
_MMA_I manage the project.01:17
klepashey, kudos01:17
klepasthat rocks :)01:17
klepasas for your answer01:17
_MMA_Thanx. We're tryin.01:17
klepasi strongly doubt it01:17
klepasregarding question from timestamp 14:13:1201:17
_MMA_Ok.01:18
klepasi would, if i could01:18
_MMA_Theres a package from Gnome-look we've been using. Ill have our packagers get it into Universe.01:19
klepasthat sounds awesome01:20
klepassee if you can get the murrine configurator as well :)01:20
klepasand all the themes :)01:20
_MMA_LOL. We already have a TON of work but Ill look into it.01:21
klepasthat would be great01:21
_MMA_We're still desperately trying to sort out Cinelerra.01:21
klepaswhat's that?01:21
_MMA_A video editor.01:21
klepaslinear?01:22
_MMA_http://cvs.cinelerra.org/01:22
klepasonly irc atm :(01:22
=== klepas takes note of the link
_MMA_Ahh...01:22
=== Trae [n=october@ip24-252-207-46.mc.at.cox.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork
troy_s_mma_ it would be terrific if you guys could get cinelerra in... i just tried to get it to compile from cvs on my amd64 box.04:07
_MMA_troy_s: Theres alot of issues around it. 1.) The licensing isnt satisfactory to Debian rules. 2.) They use a static binary of ffmpeg. That normally isnt a big deal unless you want to ship it with a distribution. Which we do. :)04:10
troy_si belive the ffmpeg issue is performance04:10
troy_sit is difficult when you get into nles because you expect top notch performance.04:11
_MMA_Yeah. Its a stable, customized version they use.04:11
_MMA_So it could introduce issues if we have it use the systems one.04:11
=== PingunZ [n=Kristof@50.6-244-81.adsl-dyn.isp.belgacom.be] has joined #ubuntu-artwork
troy_si am still trying to get it to compile... seems there is a -fPIC issue04:12
_MMA_Edgy or Feisty?04:12
troy_sEdgy04:13
_MMA_Oh wait. You said 64bit.04:13
troy_sYes...04:13
troy_sEveryone should be running in 64bit ;)04:13
_MMA_I think theres 32bit Edgy packages.04:13
_MMA_Do you think so?04:13
troy_sAbsolutely04:13
_MMA_I havnt seen a big difference.04:13
troy_sits quite huge actually04:13
troy_samd's 64bit architecture is very slick04:14
_MMA_We are gonna focus on 64bit on our next release.04:14
_MMA_I have a AM2 4600+04:14
troy_sespecially in studio apps04:14
troy_sdual core?04:14
_MMA_yep04:14
troy_sand you are crippling it by running in 32 bit?04:14
troy_syou do realize that 32 bit apps perform better in native 64bit mode eh?04:14
_MMA_Somewhat. I still use both processors just not 64bit.04:15
troy_sthat is, if you _must_ emulate04:15
troy_sif you run ubuntu as your primary workstation, there really isn't much reason to _not_ be in 64 bit mode.04:15
_MMA_I run 32bit because of things like Flash and video codecs.04:15
troy_sflash and java are easily accomplished04:16
troy_swithout a chroot04:16
troy_sor anything04:16
troy_sjust run them using linux3204:16
troy_sre video codecs -- the only one that used to be a problem was wmv04:16
troy_sotherwise there are native video codecs for pretty much every one i have come across04:17
_MMA_Not sure what that is. Its actually come down to time lately. Ive been so busy with the family and the project I havnt had time to look at it since Dapper.04:17
troy_si strongly encourage you to give it a shot.04:17
troy_sits very easy...04:17
_MMA_Im getting another SATA drive soon. Im getting it as a test drive. Ill try then.04:18
troy_shttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxAMD64FlashJava04:18
_MMA_Defiantly by Feisty+1.04:18
troy_sNot worth crippling your chip for those two silly bits.04:18
troy_sEspecially that garbage flash.04:18
=== _MMA_ bookmarks link
troy_si upgraded to the flash beta too, and it works (for silly kid games)04:19
=== _MMA_ doesnt want to get into one of those chats. :)
troy_sit was merely copying the lib.so file into the 32bit firefox plugins dir.04:19
_MMA_hmm...04:19
_MMA_Ill have a look at it.04:21
_MMA_I dont want to mess up this partition yet. ;)04:21
troy_sespecially then because i could probably get amd64 bit suport out of ubuntu studio ;)04:21
_MMA_Well thats the plan. :) Im building a mobile studio in a year and it will be 64bit.04:22
_MMA_You cant run 32bit .debs on 64bit right?04:24
_MMA_Is there a 64bit packaging team?04:24
troy_sActually04:25
troy_sit gets tricky04:25
troy_ssome debs are platform irrelevant and you can force the package manager to install them04:25
troy_sthe problem is that the default paths tend to feck up things if they include binaries.04:25
troy_stheoretically, i believe you can use dpkg to force an install to an alternative dir, but then you have all of the other packaging details to deal with (like incorrect .desktop file placement that might override 64 bit equivs etc)04:26
_MMA_ahh..04:26
troy_sI believe that the 64bit / 32bit is all handled by each04:26
troy_spusher04:26
troy_sfrom the MOTU etc.04:27
troy_sthey simply build the bins on their side then push them then daniel does the official push.04:27
_MMA_gotcha04:27
troy_sIf you can find me svn or cvs that compiles04:27
troy_si would gladly help out your project in my spare time.04:28
_MMA_You have spare time? :)04:28
troy_si know that there are packages for rosegarden04:28
troy_ssometimes... if it is something as simple as testing 64 bit packages yes.04:28
troy_srosegarden, ardour, rezound, etc04:28
troy_sall have native 64 bit packages04:29
_MMA_Seems like everyone I meet is so involved they're swamped.04:29
troy_swell...04:29
troy_snot so much with ubuntu04:29
troy_smy career takes up massive amounts of time04:29
_MMA_mhm04:29
troy_sbut when i am in hiatus modes, i have a bit between family and such.04:29
troy_sis there a reason that you are only deving a 32bit studio?04:30
troy_sand again, i don't recall, why isn't it a metapackage?04:30
troy_sis it a kernel issue?04:30
_MMA_"troy_s: is there a reason that you are only deving a 32bit studio?" Because of limited time/experiance/test machines/04:30
_MMA_"troy_s: and again, i don't recall, why isn't it a metapackage?" Because we wanted a disk. :)04:31
_MMA_"troy_s: is it a kernel issue?" Not really. Mark gave the go ahead for a kernel for us.04:31
_MMA_The "-lowlatency" one.04:31
troy_sHow cool.04:31
troy_sso you add the -lowlatency kernel and you get it?04:32
troy_s(by the way the idea of a disk is awsome, but for those folks out there who need an idiot installation package on a default box it might be worth considering)04:32
troy_sI have a few audio friends who would dearly love that package.04:32
_MMA_I miis what you mean there. We're mot packaging it. BenC made one.04:32
troy_syes...04:32
troy_sbut is it in the official repos?04:33
_MMA_yep. That was a unbreakable rule. Everything gets into the repos.04:33
_MMA_So everyone benifits.04:33
_MMA_*benefits04:33
troy_shrm... i only see generic and server.04:34
troy_sonly in 32bit land then isn't it?04:34
_MMA_In Feisty?04:34
_MMA_Its currently in Feisty. I was also told the -gereric and -lowlatency kernels were the same whether your running 32bit or 64bit. I still have to look into this.04:35
=== _MMA_ downloads a 64bit daily.
_MMA_BenC has mentioned the -low latency kernels will work on Edgy. I did it. I changed my sources.list to feisty and grabbed the linux-image-lowlatency meta and it should grab everything needed.04:42
PingunZwhat are the benefits of a low latency kernel ? the speed ?04:45
_MMA_The -lowlatency kernel currently is just like -generic other then it has a 1000mhz timer and preemption enabled.04:48
