[10:39] how is the machine total counted? [10:39] is it clusters + machines? [10:40] cluster population+machines, yes [10:40] ah [10:40] that is a little odd [10:41] how so? [10:41] well, to me, clusters are merely containers to put machines into [10:41] logical grouping of machines, essentially [10:42] yes... so machine total is the sum of the population of all the clusters, plus the number of individual machines [10:42] basically [10:43] thats how it's done [10:43] but if I create a cluster of 5 machines, do I need to create 5 machiens as well? [10:43] no, the cluster thing is so you dont have to [10:44] that's the purpose of the clustering on the site === rexbron [n=rexbron@CPE001310b2d1d1-CM0012256e816a.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [10:44] right, but I think we are missing some interesting stats that could be generated be switching to the clustering as container idea [10:45] we could ask about where the cluster is, work/home/etc. [10:45] in what way? [10:45] we could figure out that most large groups of computers are still on dapper, etc. [10:45] you could watch people upgrade [10:45] ie: do people upgrade one machine or all at once? [10:46] I would also love to roll your stats into the hwdb [10:46] for an uber-Ubuntu machine stat thingy [10:46] if you could figure how to do it, sure [10:46] not hard [10:47] but anyway, do you see where I am coming at with my clustering thoughts? [10:47] yeah [10:47] however i have not the time to do this :( [10:47] I guess I should also mention that the current way is not very clear [10:48] that is what prompted this whole conversation [10:48] yeah, it's been pointed out before, to a degree [10:50] I also wonder how many double counts we have because of false assumptions [10:53] http://ubuntucounter.geekosophical.net/faq.php <-- link to ubuntu.com on there is broken === rexbron [n=rexbron@CPE001310b2d1d1-CM0012256e816a.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === Red_Herring [n=rj@c-67-162-70-40.hsd1.il.comcast.net] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === MenZa [i=menza@last.fm/subscriber/pdpc.student.MenZa] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === rexbron [n=rexbron@CPE001310b2d1d1-CM0012256e816a.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu-marketing === juliux [n=juliux@ubuntu/member/juliux] has joined #ubuntu-marketing [03:34] elkbuntu, let me look === MitchM_ is now known as MitchM [03:46] elkbuntu, fixed.
