Sam___A fresh installation of Xubuntu OS (Ex.Dapper-Drake) use, by default, ~40 RAM' s MByte.10:14

echosystm:P10:17
echosystmthat said, best way to get xubuntu running10:18

echosystmand do a minimal install10:18

ralyonstill hoping someone can help with my irqpoll problem11:14
somerville32ralyon, Whats your problem? :)11:14
ralyonI have a new install of edgy on a toshiba satellite 330CDS and I can not get my pcmcia card slots to work or my usb. I get a noone cares on irq 11, try irqpoll and adding irqpoll to my kernel string causes a soft lockup detected on cpu0 and does not get rid of the irq error. I also get cardbus cards are not supported shortly after and being that the cardbus uses irq 11 I believe this to be...11:14
ralyon...the problem.11:14
somerville32ralyon: Can you change the irq in your bios?11:16

ralyonI can't get to that option in the bios, it just says that what it is. I did set the bios to let the os configure settings11:17
ralyonI've tried acpi=on/off and noapic as well11:18

somerville32I've never had any trouble with irqs before so I'm not quite sure what to do11:19
somerville32However, there are currently 1000 people in #ubuntu and so I'm sure one of them would have an idea :)11:20
ralyonok, I'll try asking there as well then, I thought this would be more appropriate since ubuntu wouldn't even load only having 96mb of ram11:20

ralyongoogled for about 12 hours before I came here12:05
grazieobviously not then12:05
ralyonpeople had similiar problems but none of the fixes I found for them worked for me12:05
ralyonmost of them were in other distros, so some of the tools were not available in xubuntu either12:06
somerville32What tools were they?12:06
ralyoncardctl wasz one of them12:07
ralyonsome of the others were guis like yast12:07
grazieyast?12:07
maxamilliongrazie: yast is a control panel for suse12:07

ralyonyes, you got it before I could12:08
maxamilliongrazie: oh ... ok12:08

PuMpErNiCkLepccardctl is provided by pcmciautils.12:09

ubotupcmciautils: PCMCIA utilities for Linux 2.6. In component main, is important. Version 014-1ubuntu2 (edgy), package size 28 kB, installed size 156 kB12:10

grazieDSL it pretty good for older machines. you could download and try them pcmiautils while waiting?12:12

g333k_workbecause I want to send popup messages to my thin clients, using student-control-panel made for gnome and kde, but the messages dont appear12:17
PuMpErNiCkLeralyon: It's probably installed already.12:17
lhtownI just tried to install Herd 2 from the live cd. It boots up fine and seems to work great. However, on the install, it asks me for the time zone and keyboard and then goes to a screen with a wide black border on the top and bottom and a middle "stripe" that has vertical white, blue, and sort of gray vertical stripes of varying width and then nothing else happens. When I push the power button, it beeps oddly and shuts down. The computer is a Gateway Profile 4 th12:17
g333k_workso why the messages dont appear?12:17
TheSheepg333k_work: isn't dbus only for local communication?12:17

g333k_workTheSheep, it suppose to appear in the client...12:21
g333k_workTheSheep, Well I dont know how I am receiving it12:21
TheSheepg333k_work: dbus if for communicating between applications...12:21

TheSheepg333k_work: might be handy12:22
g333k_worklet me check12:22
