tftbhello, newbie question about xfce shadows and such.. can anyone help?12:27
TheSheep!ask12:28
ubotuDon't ask to ask a question. Just ask your question :)12:28
tftb:)12:28
tftbyeah, I'm trying to get the window manager to make my windows shadowy and all, but can't seem to get it working12:29
tftbI just installed xubuntu 6.10 on top of Ubuntu, which was a bit too slow for this old laptop I'm using12:29
tftbso I edited the etc/X11/xorg.conf -file, and put the composite enabled device there, but nothing happens12:30
tftbany help would be appreciated12:31
tftbif you can't understand what I'm saying, I'd be glad to clarify12:31
TheSheeptftb: you still don't have the 'compositor' tab in the window manager tweaks?12:33
tftbyeah, that's it12:33
tftbnothing there, no compositor12:34
tftbAm I correct in assuming that Xubuntu is supposed to have the composite manager by default? just by installing xubuntu-desktop from ubuntu?12:35
TheSheepok, go to your ~/.config/xfce4/mcs_settings/12:35
g333k_workTheSheep, the receptop is zenity12:35
TheSheeptftb: and edit wmtweaks.xml12:36
TheSheeptftb: enable the compositor there12:36
TheSheeptftb: it should appear in the wm tweaks then12:36
TheSheepg333k_work: I don't understand?12:36
tftbTheSheep: I'm sorry, I don't know how to cd myself to a directory that has a dot in it.. I can't see it when I ls12:38
TheSheeptftb: enable 'show hidden files' in the menu12:39
TheSheeptftb: or in the open diologue, right-click on the file list and enable it there12:39
tftbTheSheep: I don't seem to have a file called wmtweaks.xml in the directory12:43
TheSheeptftb: ah, then run settings->window manager tweaks, and change some option12:43
TheSheeptftb: the file will be created12:43
tftbTheSheep: right you were! :)12:44
=== lhtown [n=luke@66.98.2.212] has left #xubuntu []
tftbTheSheep: is it the "UseCompositing" switch? It has type="int" and value="0"12:46
TheSheeptftb: ues12:47
TheSheepyes12:47
tftbTheSheep: I changed it to "1". And now I'm guessing I have to reboot for it to take effect?12:48
TheSheeptftb: no12:49
TheSheepjust close the wm tweaks and open again12:49
tftbTheSheep: So the compositor-tab should be visible now? It's not :(12:50
TheSheepweird12:51
TheSheepmaybe it saved the xml file when you were closing it12:51

tftbsorry, didn't understand?12:51
somerville32tftb: Check to make sure it changed12:52
tftbyeah, it's zero again! weird!12:52
TheSheeptftb: the wm tweaks must have saved it before you exited it12:52
tftbhmh. weird. now it IS "1" but still  can't get the tab12:55
TheSheeptftb: you do have compositing enabled in xorg?12:56
tftbyeah... I wrote Section "Extensions" (enter)  Option "Composite" "Enabled" (enter)  EndSection12:58
tftbI'm gonna try if logging out helps.01:06

cellofellowit'll just conflict. Maybe synaptic/apt would remove the new files, not sure.
