These graphics are horribly wrong. [11:15] So if whoever made those graphics is in this channel right now: shame on you and redo them. [11:19] msikma: can you be a little more constructive? [11:19] msikma: what's exactly wrong with them in your opinion? === Seveas [n=seveas@ubuntu/member/seveas] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [11:24] What's wrong with them? Well, it's an obvious attempt at creating the typical reflection graphics as popularized by Apple, but they are simply not done right. They shouldn't be blurred and should properly fade out at the bottom of the reflection (the logo does not). Of course, it's debatable what can be considered "correct", but that's the way Apple did it (for a reason). [11:26] msikma: maybe the apple reflections reflect from a different surface? [11:27] msikma: as far as light physics is concerned, I can see nothing wrong with these images [11:27] msikma: I don't know how Appple does it nor that it became the onle and only model to follow... [11:28] You know what? I don't care. The vast majority of Ubuntu graphics are poor, and no matter how much I randomly complain here, that isn't going to change very easily. [11:29] You can make up a ton of excuses to make it seem as if bad design is actually correct somehow, but that isn't going to make a difference. [11:31] msikma: well, it's amazing that your complaining has no effect! there must be something wrong. it always worked when you were a little kid, right? [11:36] Hahaha, yeah right. [11:38] hey chaps [11:38] msikma: I'm sorry, I shoudn't have said that. Got annoyed. [11:39] how about rather than endless bitching and attacking each other those who wish to make a difference because they disagree start doing something [11:39] msikma: btw, I'm not related to ubuntustudio [11:39] the show me the code mentality works the same as it does in the other communities: do something and people will follow [11:39] msikma: but you could maybe re-make these images and offer a replacement? :) [11:39] klepas: good point [11:39] there's a start :) [11:43] if either of you two are interested in doing this i'd be happy to talk to you about doing something [11:43] and putting the kick back into the artwork team; creativity and collaboration style [11:43] I'm sorry, guys, but it's not a good thing that I personally have almost gotten used to being disappointed by Ubuntu-related design. I guess I could offer a replacement, but I really am more interested in doing something more structural. There are no real design guidelines, which there definitely should be. [11:44] msikma: how about we start small? [11:44] msikma: there are several efforts on that [11:44] I think that the main problem is the wiki that we're using. There is no structure and I consistently have a hard time figuring out where to find or put things. [11:44] a couple of us could get together, do a theme or two [11:44] I think that the wiki would be a great place to put such information, but I have a feeling that it isn't the first place for a fair share of the artists to go look for information. [11:45] msikma: I had a problem with the wiki too until I discovered that they don't use the wiki for navigation, just for storing things -- navigation is in launchpad [11:45] hey chaps [11:45] And the launchpad doesn't seem to be made for this kind of development. [11:46] I mean, really, where are you going to put a design doc? [11:46] let's ignore launchpad and the wiki for a moment [11:46] i'm wondering whether either of you would be interested in getting together in the coming weeks and just doing something [11:46] plain and simple. we can agree on whatever it is and collaborate to produce something rad. [11:46] and take it from there? [11:47] What kind of something? A theme? [11:47] yea [11:47] maybe a wallpaper [11:48] and from there perhaps a matching splash [11:48] Well, sure, I'm up for it [11:48] klepas: doing it already :) [11:48] I've been doing my own work in the meantime, although that still requires much work (a theme and some experimental wallpapers) [11:48] msikma: great. :) [11:48] cool [11:49] i had a good chat with Jono and elkbuntu at LCA about getting the group of artists who are interested in making something sexy get back together [11:49] if you guys are interested in making that happen, starting by beginning small with a few things here and there and growing outwards i'd love to talk and work with both of you in the coming weeks [11:55] klepas: sure, if you have any particular ideas of what needs to be done. [12:03] well the plan is to start small [12:03] i'm not going to push anything in particular on you [12:03] just see what a small handful of people are interested in and then maybe do a small set of goodies for the ubuntu desktop, using the ubuntu palette and maybe a logo here or there [12:04] and passing it out as a really nice packed set to the community and check out the response === coz_ [n=cosimo32@pool-151-201-27-176.pitt.east.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === coz_ [n=cosimo32@pool-151-201-27-176.pitt.east.verizon.net] has left #ubuntu-artwork ["Leaving"] === andreasn [n=andreas@h101n1fls31o839.telia.com] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === klepas [n=klepas@60-242-104-119.tpgi.com.au] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === KaiL [n=KaiL@p548F6B71.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === coz_ [n=cosimo32@pool-151-201-27-176.pitt.east.verizon.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [04:33] morning === coz_ [n=cosimo32@pool-151-201-27-176.pitt.east.verizon.net] has left #ubuntu-artwork ["Leaving"] === EmxBA [n=emx@ubuntu/member/emxba] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === alefteris [n=alefteri@athedsl-115668.otenet.gr] has left #ubuntu-artwork [""] === Cimi [n=Cimi@host118-179-dynamic.9-87-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [08:39] http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/3651/screen6ib.png [08:39] impressions? === EmxBA [n=emx@ubuntu/member/emxba] has joined #ubuntu-artwork [08:52] nice === BHSPitLappy [n=steve-o@adsl-65-65-221-216.dsl.okcyok.swbell.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === BHSPitLappy [n=steve-o@adsl-65-65-221-216.dsl.okcyok.swbell.net] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === msikma [n=Msikma@s55933ad4.adsl.wanadoo.nl] has joined #ubuntu-artwork === kwwii [n=kwwii@scandic759.host.songnetworks.se] has joined #ubuntu-artwork
