GryfftI'm running Xubuntu on a compaq presario v2000. I'm trying to get the wireless to work- as I understand it, broadcom has refused to release anything so I'm forced to use ndiswrapper. I think I've done everything right, but modprobe doesn't give a message when I run modprobe ndiswrapper, and the light on my wireless isn't turning on. I've followed a few separate tutorials to get where I am now, but I can't seem to get my wireless card to activate. Furthermo05:37

TheSheeppjgat09: why?06:17
TheSheeppjgat09: well, 128MB should be enough to use it06:17
TheSheeppjgat09: not enough for the livecd installer, though06:18

somerville32sk: What version of Xubuntu do you use? 6.10 or 6.06?08:31
skmount says ntfs08:31
somerville32Oh!08:31
sk6.1008:31
somerville32Thats why08:31
somerville32You need to install ntfs drivers! :)08:31
somerville32!ntfs | sk08:31
ubotusk: To view your Windows/Mac partitions see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutomaticallyMountPartitions. For write access see !ntfs-3g or !fuse08:31
sk/dev/sda1 on /media/Volume type ntfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8)08:31
fijamin that case you'd need to use e.g fuse to mount it08:31
fijamyeah08:31
skI see08:31
fijamPowha: oh, it was indeed. You can add verva panel plugin with command line08:32
fijamand run Terminal from there08:32
PowhaI will log out and do a terminal session.08:32
fijamthere was a keybord shourtcut...08:33
fijamwait a sec08:33
skWell, how do I install those drivers / fuge?08:33
skfuse08:33
skThe only thing written in that document that's related is "*At this time, NTFS may only be mounted read-only by the kernel. This means information may be read, but no information may be written."08:33
Pekkeowha: i couldn't get that verva to work, can you tell me what to do, to get it to work like a terminal?08:33
fijamPowha: alt+ F208:33
PekkePowha, i ment, sorry08:34
fijamPowha: and then Terminal, xterm or whatever you use08:34
fijamgot it?08:35
PowhaIt says the directory can't be found.08:35
fijamok, so step by step08:38
fijamare you in your home directory?08:38
PowhaCan't I get to the appmanager and just reinstall the meny?08:39
fijamok, this should solve the problem08:40
fijamcp /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml08:41
PowhaIf I press alt+f2 I get "Run program"08:42
Powhaah "T"erminal (:08:42
fijamyes, type Terminal there08:42
fijamyeah, I got caught on that too08:43

maxamillionadamwest: metacity is the media player i assume?12:22
adamwestmaxamillion: it won't show the buttons and stuff right... it's like the old gnome theme12:22
drx0drxError during install 'Running "install -- stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) /boot/grub/menu.lst "... failed'12:22
adamwestmaxamillion: oops i meant the buttons and scrollbars and stuff... what's "inside" the window12:23
adamwestcant remember the proper name12:23
maxamillionadamwest: ohhh yeah, that's right ... metacity is the window manager in gnome12:23
drx0drxis anyone here knowledgable enough to assist me with an installation error?12:23
tonyyarussogunny01: To get the web pages part set up, install the apache2 package.  For ftp, I use vsftpd myself.  Make sure you have port forwarding for 80 if you're using a router for http, 443 for https, 20 and 21 for ftp.  The root web directory will be /var/www/12:24
maxamillionadamwest: but ... errr, that's just the gtk theme ... i think, actually ... i bet someone in #xfce could answer that better for you12:24
adamwesti'm asking here because this is the channel i get help :P other channels ain't answering so much12:24
maxamilliondrx0drx: i might be ... what's up?12:24
drx0drxmax, Error during install 'Running "install -- stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) /boot/grub/menu.lst "... failed'12:24
maxamillionadamwest: hrmmm.... i don't personally know because i don't do much theme changing but it just looks like the gtk button theme is off12:25
adamwestit works with other themes...12:25
adamwestbtw is there another server with good linux channels except irc.freenode.org?12:26
adamwest*com12:26
maxamilliondrx0drx: boot live cd, mount the hard drive and do "sudo update-grub" might help12:26
maxamillionadamwest: freenode.net* ... and no, not that i know of12:26
drx0drx0drx0grubs not installed yet12:26
adamwestweird. i'm on irc.freenode.com now12:26
