DrX0PuMpErNiCkLe, also fsck reports trouble on a volume that my Linux was never on (it got created AFTER Linux was running)03:18

spasticteapotLinux_: Incompetent as ever.03:37
DrX0Does this thing have a repair mode or do I need to reinstall Linux and start over?03:37
spasticteapotLinux_: I tried Zenwalk. Liked the speed, did not like how it was incompatible with everything.03:37
spasticteapotWhy is Xubuntu so @#$@#$@ slow? I've got a 1ghz Pentium-M! (1.5ghz P4 equivalent. Mostly.)03:38
spasticteapotPerhaps it's a RAM issue? 512mb should be enough for Firefox and Abiword.03:38
PuMpErNiCkLeDrX0: It wouldn't necessarily fail.  It should definitely warn, though.03:38
PuMpErNiCkLeWhat output did it give?03:38
DarthLappyIt's not slow for me and I'm on a 850MHz P3 with 256mb RAM03:38

spasticteapotI think it's a RAM issue.03:39

spasticteapotThat, or the battery manager is hoovering up my RAM. I'm using a version that's a few weeks old - I need to download a new ISO.03:39

DrX0grazie, I'd like to have all my stuff back, there's no data, but I spent 3 days configuring this system.08:26
grazieDrX0: it would be at the very least hard, if not impossible. Why did you use LVM?08:27
DrX0I'm running Xen and Xensource recommends you use LVM.  I guess it's so you can have more (logical) parititions for VMs but they dont' really say why.08:27
graziebut if something borks, recovery is more difficult...as you've discovered08:28

DrX0grazie, can I extend partitions as easily if I need more space later?08:31
DrX0grazie, I might need to add new drives and span disks as data parititions fill up08:31

grazieDrX0: that's too complicated for me I'm afraid :(09:05

DrX0RAID will let you have multiple drives appear as a single drive and redundancy, but it won't let you have more than the standard number of partitions, just largers parititions on more drives.09:08
grazieyou can only have 4 primary partitions. With extended, you can have lots of logical partitions.09:08

Maximilian1styou can find these with  a command12:15
Maximilian1sthmm...12:15
KrakenYeah, I've managed to change the name to the one I want on the desktop icon with the udev rules, but it still mounts to /media/usbdisk12:15
hyper_ch!uuid12:15
ubotuTo see a list of your devices/partitions and their corresponding UUID's, run this command in a !shell:  blkid  (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibAtaForAtaDisks for the rationale behind the transition to UUID)12:15
maxamillionhyper_ch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_abstraction_layer12:15
maxamillionbrb12:16
hyper_chblkid --> that's the command to get the UUID12:16
Maximilian1sttrs fort.12:16
Maximilian1st:-)12:16
hyper_chKraken: why not symlinking it then to where you want it to be mounted?12:16
Maximilian1stmaybe it has nothing to do with hal in the end.12:16
DrX0disk= [phy:/dev/sda5,ioemu:hdb,w' ] 12:17
Maximilian1stStill I would suggest to try adding a line in fstab with auto12:17
DrX0builder = 'hvm'12:17
KrakenIf I have two usb sticks in, it could be usbdisk1 or usbdisk or12:17
DrX0device_model = '/usr/lib/xen/bin/qeum-dm'12:18
hyper_chKraken: hmmm, I still think you should be able to mount it with udev rules...12:18
DrX0kernel = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader'12:18
DrX0boot = 'd'12:18
DrX0cdrom = '/dev/hda/12:18
KrakenWell, I thought I had. The name on the icon that appears on the desktop did change, but it mounted to the same spot.12:18
DrX0(now we know where hda went)_12:19
DrX0i skipped the other lines, but I will probably change on_reboot and on_crash to 'restart'12:19
KrakenAnd when I add it to my fstab, which should override the default location (according to something I read somewhere at work today with random googling) instead it says it can't find the mount point12:20
hyper_chwell, I found out about udev just a few days ago when I had problems with my pda :)12:20
DrX0any reason why the disk = line might hose my host VM Linux OS?12:20
Maximilian1stHave you tried something like this? UUID=the_exact_id_of_your_USB_stick/your/mount/pointvfat??auto,defaults,user0       112:21
Maximilian1stKraken, When you say "<Kraken> And when I add it to my fstab," what do you add?12:21
KrakenLike the line you just pasted, but with the device name in place of the UUID, and a 0 at the end, not a 112:22
Kraken /dev/backupstick12:23
Krakenbeing the device name.12:23
Kraken(and that symlink does exist when I have the stick in there.)12:23
Maximilian1stThat is my point, you name it by a standard name. Try plugging it in so it works, check out it's ID and use that instead. I am no dev but this sounds good to me and could work...12:24
KrakenWhat does the '1' at the end signify (as opposed to a 0)?12:25
Maximilian1stIt is to make a check of the sanity of the disk sometimes after a number of reboots...12:25
KrakenOkay12:26
maxamillionlol ... i think the survalence camera server here at work just crashed12:26
Maximilian1stjust leave that to 0 for your USB stick12:26
maxamillionnope .. nvm, its back12:26
Maximilian1stnvm...12:27
Maximilian1stnvm?12:27
Maximilian1stnever mind?12:27
maxamillionyeah12:27
Maximilian1stk12:27
maxamillionsorry ... i <3 shorthand because i am lazy12:27
