PumpernickelYou can, somewhat - you can specify ranges in xorg.conf for HorizSync and VertRefresh, as well as specifying specific resolutions.12:28
PumpernickelIf the driver, or the monitor, or the card don't support those values, though, it may fail utterly.12:28
PumpernickelYou can also investigate the bot in /msg.12:29

hyper_chkpel: upgrade from herd5-->beta-->stable01:26
kpelhyper_ch: ok, probably you can help then. does the ca-certificates package work for you? can you install it without problems?01:27
kpelfor some reason oo.org depends on it and after yesterday's upgrade to feisty openoffice won't install01:27
hyper_chI don't even know what that is01:28
kpeli didn't know either but for some reason someone thought that you should have a lot of ssl certificates in order to write a letter to grandma01:28
hyper_chif security is important then I use encryption or gpg-signing01:29
kpelindeed01:29
kpelfor some reason they created that stupid dependency on certificates. a nice single point of failure for the installation of the whole openoffice suite01:30

hyper_chkpel: why not clean install of feisty?01:30
hyper_chdo you have /home on a seperate partition?01:31

hyper_chkpel: what did you alter in /etc  ?01:32
