superm1Daviey, you still here?01:42
Davieyyep01:42
superm1so do you want to elaborate a little more about what you had in mind with mythbuntu control centre?01:42
DavieyI started looking at a proof of concept01:43
DavieyWhen thing it should really have is "Record a new remote"01:43
DavieyI thought for v1 - it could just be a bash script01:43
=== jono [n=jono@ubuntu/member/jono] has joined #ubuntu-mythtv
Davieyhey jono01:44
jonohey01:44
DavieyDid you have any joy switching channel ownership?01:44
superm1well best off would be python i think actually, because then you can expand it into pygtk01:44
Davieytrue, but i looked into pylirc01:44
Davieyand it might not fullfill our requirements01:44
DavieyAll the references i have found makes it sound like, it's only for adding hooks to apps for premade lircrc files01:45
superm1what is pylirc?01:45
superm1havent even heard of it01:45
Davieypython lirc01:45
Daviey:)01:45
Davieyhttp://pylirc.mccabe.nu/01:46
DavieyNeed to play with it some-more - started with a gtk interface..01:46
DavieyThen though bah - need to make a working console version first01:46
DavieyTrouble is - not a recent deb file for current python-version01:47
Davieyso currently need to add it from binary tar01:47
superm1well that module would be ideal for adding control support ot mythbuntu control centre, but you could still do the control centre without it01:47
superm1and just require mosue support for now01:48
superm1i guess the very first thing that came to mind when you mentioned this idea to me in the first place was gnome control center01:48
Davieyno - your missunderstanding me01:48
superm1guess so :)01:48
Davieydon't want to 'control' M.C.S with remote - want the option to record a 'new' remote01:49
Davieyie gnerate lircrc file01:49
superm1okay01:49
superm1thats just one function of it though the way i'm understanding it01:50
DavieyIn many ways - unless people are using the 'nova' remote (silver) - then i feel they may be better to record their own config's01:50
Davieyas many i have come across are hit and miss01:50
superm1i see01:50
Davieywith this app - i'm hoping it should take 10 seconds to record a new remote01:50
Davieyie, press each button when prompted01:51
DavieyThat's why i thought it might be bettter to make v1 with bash01:51
Davieyas the 'tools' are already there :)01:51
superm1well Daviey before you start this, maybe do you want to talk to the UMC guys, and make sure that the way its implemented its still compatible with the way they do lirc in the future?01:52
Davieygood plan - do they use irc?01:52
superm1hm01:52
superm1jono do you know?01:52
Daviey-> do the ubuntu media centre guys use IRC/01:52
Davieyhe's off with the ducks methinks01:53
Davieysuperm1, have you seen the UMC's logo?01:54
Davieyhttps://librarian.launchpad.net/7393572/umc-mugshot.png01:54
Davieyfunky eh?01:54
superm1haha01:55
Davieymight have to bang off an email to ArnaudQuette01:55
superm1thats actually kinda cool i think01:55
Davieyhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/RemoteControls01:55
superm1well best bet i think01:56
superm1is to join that mailing list01:56
superm1see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuMediaCenterTeam01:56
Davieyhttp://itooktheredpill.dyndns.org/images/dvbremote.png   <-   :)01:56
superm1That looks pretty straightforward01:57
superm1as long as you can handle all those changes being reflected across multiple apps01:57
DavieyI didn't know some dvb-t remotes have their mapping hardcoded in the kernel01:57
Daviey(that link above isn't my app)01:58
superm1several i2c ones do01:58
superm1the idea is that lirc-i2c will be eventually phased out i think01:58
DavieyI didn't know that - how stupid01:58
superm1well if you provide a kernel interface for changing buttons, no big deal i dont think01:58

superm1because things were always slow or not working right for me04:47
superm1Daviey, if you want to take over the unofficial themes package go for it04:47
Davieyshame... idea had potential04:47
superm1its gotta be broken into lots of smaller packages now04:48
Davieywhy?!04:48
superm1according to discussion in -motu04:48
superm1because a 90 meg source package is too big04:48
Davieyarg!04:48
superm1i was thinking it might be more worthwhile to just wget the sources04:48
superm1as needed04:48
Davieyhow big is openoffice src package?!04:48
superm1haha04:49
superm1and build-depend on wget04:49
superm1or curl04:49
Davieythat's kinda nasty tho04:49
Davieydon't you think?04:49
superm1and then produce lots of resultant binary packages04:49
superm1and one metapackage04:49
superm1like community-themes04:49
superm1that depended on those04:49
DavieyHow about a package for each theme - then a meta package for them all?04:49
superm1well that would be the idea04:51
superm1but i was thinking it might just be easier with a single source package04:51
superm1and the other thing is that the syth-* themes need to be taken out for the time being04:51
superm1until licensing is updated04:52
superm1that was the big thing that they caught04:52
Davieyk04:53
DavieyI think grabbing the src's via wget is horrible tho04:53
DavieyIt would have to hosted on our server04:54
Davieyand then - if our server goes down, so does the package04:54
superm1well they'd be on the server's that were out there hosting currently04:54
superm1but your right04:54

DavieyIf juski decides to move the location of his tar - breaks the pck04:56
superm1well then i guess lots of binary packages is the only way to really go04:57
superm1and lots of src packages04:57
Daviey:(04:57
superm1but the packaging can be nearly identical for each one04:57
DavieyVery demoralising packaging eh?04:58
superm1probably just a different debian/copyright for each04:58

DavieyI should be able to just cut down the current package's rules?  don't need to start from scratch?05:00
superm1yea that should be fine05:01
DavieyWhere did the day go? It's 4:00pm already...05:02
Cyberdancehi! i've installed mythtv but i do not see anything at all... i have got a pretty old Hauppauge WinTV DVB-s. I have imported a channel list but the screen remains dark... anybody could help me please?05:02
Cyberdancebackend and frontend are running on the same machine05:02
superm1the only problems that were mentioned the last time around were source package size and the license for the syth* themes, so yea cutting down packaging should work out good05:03
DavieyCyberdance, Have you been able to use the DVB-S card outside myth?05:03
CyberdanceDaviey: in windows, yep05:04
Davieyhmm05:04

DavieyCyberdance, this is quite a good quide for getting it to work outside myth05:05
Davieyhttp://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_ubuntu.php05:05
CyberdanceFor windows i have bought WinDVBlive several years ago and it still works pretty fine...05:05
Cyberdanceyep, i followed exactly this guide05:06
DavieyCyberdance, where the guide mentions tzap - replace with szap05:06
Cyberdanceok, i'll try, thx05:06
Davieyszap being for satellite05:06
Cyberdanceaaaaaah05:08
Cyberdancetzap failed for some reason and i did not know why...05:09
Davieybecause tzap is for terrestrial05:11
Davieyyou've got satellite :)05:11
Cyberdanceok... szap seems to be working05:18
Cyberdancei receives lines like that: status 1f | signal c7c7 | snr e6e6 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 | FE_HAS_LOCK05:19
CyberdanceDaviey: is that what it should be?05:19
DavieyI think so05:19
Davieycan't be bad :)05:19
Cyberdancethe dvbstream command that is mentioned in the guide does not really work...05:20
Cyberdancedvbstream -o -ps 600 601 -qam 16 -cr 3_4 | mplayer -05:20
Cyberdanceit says Reading from stdin, output to stout, streaming 2 streams05:21
Davieyit won't work - that's for "BBC ONE" dvd-t05:21
Cyberdanceoh ok05:21
Davieyyou'll need to find the parameters to use..05:21
DavieyI can't really help with that - i've never used dvb-s05:21
Cyberdanceic...05:21
Davieygoogle might help tho05:21
superm1Daviey, I'm not sure if you started already with packing up files into a package in the build script, but I added another last night05:35
superm1(word of warning)05:35

superm1ubiquity is starting to wrap up a lot better.  The GUI is all there now, and I'm learning how to properly catch signals so that I can hide pages and control what is shown05:37

Cyberdanceyeehaw mythtv is up & running... but there are only two things that bother me: first, there are always the gnome menubar and taskbar visible which is really annoying. second, i have installed mythweb and chose several channels to be not visible. when zapping through channels in mythtv frontend all channels show up, even those that should be invisible. any ideas how to change that?12:19
