kazhello , I always have a problem with d-I. I will try to explain, I have compress my debian in one big file and I would like restor it with d-I. So I removed some udeb like netconf and base-installer and make one which decompress my archive in /target but when it's finish grub-install on  hd0 failed. i have try grub-install in a console with chroot /target but it's failed to whit this error "/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 does not have any correspond04:03
cjwatsonsounds like you haven't bind-mounted /dev and /proc into /target04:04
kazI have make /dev an /proc in /taget with  mount -o bind from liveCD04:04
kazyes04:05

kazI also tried to remove grub-installer.udeb and do another without grub-install only with the basic commands of grub, that ok but d-I does not seem to validate the stage and to finish the installation 04:14
kaz04:14
kazcan be that the problem comes from device.map, I have see hda1 hda5 ... inside whereas this files on /dev links with /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1?04:29
cjwatsonentirely possible04:32
cjwatsonyou'll probably need to update device.map if device naming differs04:33
kazyes I try this now  in qemu04:33
kazare there a script to update device.map ?04:34
cjwatsonIIRC grub-install --recheck (possibly with some more options) will do it04:35
cjwatsonor just move device.map aside and let it auto-probe04:35
kazok thank you very much04:36
