| superm1 | Hi guys. I have been encountering kernel oops' consistently on the current x86_64 system. I wanted to submit a useful bug report with the oops, but it appears to be an oops during scheduling and isn't written out to disk. I am going to set up a serial console to capture the entire thing, is there anything else that would be useful to do, say install linux-image-debug-* or anything like that? | 03:34 |

| thully | Hi - I've found an issue with the appletouch kernel modules (macbook trackpad) - for which I've found a temporary workaround... | 05:58 |
| thully | the issue is that the appletouch module doesn't let you change the mouse pointer acceleration, UNLESS you do a rmmod appletouch and modprobe appletouch | 05:59 |
| thully | then it's good until you restart X | 05:59 |

| xhaker | Hi all | 10:23 |
| xhaker | any of you acquainted with clocksource unstable kernel messages? | 10:23 |
| xhaker | I think it's related to dynamic ticks feature that got into the kernel at 21 | 10:27 |
| mjg59 | If it's just that the TSC is unstable, that's normal | 10:27 |
| mjg59 | It's from the high-precision timer framework, not dynamic ticks | 10:27 |
| xhaker | oh.. then it might not be that that is causing my computer to pause booting | 10:29 |
| xhaker | i've searched the forums but didn't find any info on this problem | 10:29 |
| xhaker | gusty boot pauses and continues if any input is given.. like touching the touchpad.. or pressing any key | 10:30 |
| xhaker | s/gusty/gutsy | 10:30 |
| Amaranth | are you sure it's not just trying to setup non-existing interfaces from /etc/network/interfaces? | 10:31 |
| Amaranth | i had a 2 minute pause in feisty because of that | 10:31 |
| xhaker | Amaranth, howdy! it's not that | 10:33 |
| ivoks | mjg59: there's one easy-to-fix bug in acpi-support | 10:33 |
| xhaker | it pauses several times | 10:33 |
| xhaker | if I have my usb mouse connected it doesn't pause | 10:33 |
| xhaker | i figured a optical mouse generates input events always | 10:33 |
| xhaker | an* | 10:33 |
| Amaranth | xhaker: it shouldn't | 10:34 |
| xhaker | you know how /dev/urandom or /dev/random generates numbers based on the hardware signals | 10:34 |
| === gicmo [n=gicmo@p5491DA82.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #ubuntu-kernel | ||
| xhaker | i think the boot is needing to be fed with signals too | 10:35 |
| xhaker | pretty weird yes | 10:35 |
| xhaker | but that's the only explanation i can find | 10:35 |
| xhaker | it's not only me with the problem too | 10:35 |
| xhaker | oh my engrish! | 10:36 |
| xhaker | option idle=poll makes the computer boot at normal speed | 10:36 |
| xhaker | might have to do with new udev :D | 10:38 |
| xhaker | mjg59, what do you think? | 10:38 |
| mjg59 | Yes, that sounds like it might be a problem with dynamic ticks | 10:41 |
| mjg59 | But it's unrelated to unstable clocksource messages | 10:41 |
| xhaker | I was reading too much into it | 10:41 |
| xhaker | fedora 7 install was stalling too (pausing) but clocksource=acpi_pm solved that | 10:42 |
| xhaker | i don't think it's important.. but it might be to somebody | 10:43 |
| xhaker | I'm in a dual core laptop. k8 | 10:43 |
