superm1Hi guys.  I have been encountering kernel oops' consistently on the current x86_64 system.  I wanted to submit a useful bug report with the oops, but it appears to be an oops during scheduling and isn't written out to disk.  I am going to set up a serial console to capture the entire thing, is there anything else that would be useful to do, say install linux-image-debug-* or anything like that?03:34

thullyHi - I've found an issue with the appletouch kernel modules (macbook trackpad) - for which I've found a temporary workaround...05:58
thullythe issue is that the appletouch module doesn't let you change the mouse pointer acceleration, UNLESS you do a rmmod appletouch and modprobe appletouch05:59
thullythen it's good until you restart X05:59

xhakerHi all10:23
xhakerany of you acquainted with clocksource unstable kernel messages? 10:23
xhakerI think it's related to dynamic ticks feature that got into the kernel at 2110:27
mjg59If it's just that the TSC is unstable, that's normal10:27
mjg59It's from the high-precision timer framework, not dynamic ticks10:27
xhakeroh.. then it might not be that that is causing my computer to pause booting10:29
xhakeri've searched the forums but didn't find any info on this problem10:29
xhakergusty boot pauses and continues if any input is given.. like touching the touchpad.. or pressing any key10:30
xhakers/gusty/gutsy10:30
Amaranthare you sure it's not just trying to setup non-existing interfaces from /etc/network/interfaces?10:31
Amaranthi had a 2 minute pause in feisty because of that10:31
xhakerAmaranth, howdy! it's not that10:33
ivoksmjg59: there's one easy-to-fix bug in acpi-support10:33
xhakerit pauses several times10:33
xhakerif I have my usb mouse connected it doesn't pause10:33
xhakeri figured a optical mouse generates input events always10:33
xhakeran*10:33
Amaranthxhaker: it shouldn't10:34
xhakeryou know how /dev/urandom or /dev/random generates numbers based on the hardware signals10:34
=== gicmo [n=gicmo@p5491DA82.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #ubuntu-kernel
xhakeri think the boot is needing to be fed with signals too10:35
xhakerpretty weird yes10:35
xhakerbut that's the only explanation i can find10:35
xhakerit's not only me with the problem too10:35
xhakeroh my engrish!10:36
xhakeroption idle=poll makes the computer boot at normal speed10:36
xhakermight have to do with new udev :D10:38
xhakermjg59, what do you think?10:38
mjg59Yes, that sounds like it might be a problem with dynamic ticks10:41
mjg59But it's unrelated to unstable clocksource messages10:41
xhakerI was reading too much into it10:41
xhakerfedora 7 install was stalling too (pausing) but clocksource=acpi_pm solved that10:42
xhakeri don't think it's important.. but it might be to somebody10:43
xhakerI'm in a dual core laptop. k8 10:43
