DaveMorrisI'm guessing mp3 playback is also disabled by default12:27
Davieybah.. i'm still waiting on 'debian fonts task force'12:27
Davieyto resolve the licence12:27
OpenMediathe dvd/mp3 stuff just isn't understood by consumers.12:28
superm1all the medibuntu stuff is off by default12:28
DaveMorrisDaviey: can't you just package some up to be used my mythbuntu before hand12:28
superm1the repo isn't added12:28
=== Daviey notes that dvdcss is legal in the UK AIUI
superm1Daviey, any words on the unofficial themes package either?12:28
OpenMediaWow.. Since when?12:28
DaveMorrisyes, however us downloading aka exporting from the US may not be12:28
OpenMediamp3 is legal in NZ - no patents :)12:29
DavieyDaveMorris: i have!  But we can't really use it until the licence is kosher12:29
DaveMorriswhats wrong with the licence?12:29
superm1OpenMedia, lucky12:29
DavieyDaveMorris: redhat haven't released them as we want them yet12:29
DaveMorristhe patent on mp3 runs out in 2013 I think12:29
DavieyDaveMorris: haven't used 'open font licence' but they are willing to.  Just taking time12:30
Davieymight pester the debian guy again12:30
=== tgm4883 doesn't like patents
OpenMediaSo whats the license on the new RH fonts?12:30
DaveMorriswhats wrong with the current licence?12:30
DavieyDaveMorris: "meh"12:31
DavieyCurrently gpl'd12:31
DaveMorrisI'm just thinking there might be issues when creating documents etc12:31
Davieyapparently that's not appropriate12:31
DaveMorrishowever we're not using it in that context12:31
Davieyyes.. that was part of it.12:31
DaveMorrisalso mythtv is gpl'ed so that don't matter12:31
Daviey"Fonts need GPL exceptions for situations where they are used (technically as a library iirc) in a document that may be a private/confidential/proprietry document."12:32
OpenMediaAh.12:32
Davieynot relevant in our case; but motu won't +1 my package until resolved12:32
DaveMorrisDaviey: yep, but we can host it on mythbuntu.org12:33
superm1DaveMorris, we need to get all our stuff into ubuntu archives though12:33
Davieycan do; my package is on revu12:33
superm1thats why i'm working so closely with ubiquity guys12:33
DaveMorrisand grab it from there, when its +1 we switch to the ubuntu archive12:33
Davieyis it a show stopper atm?12:33
superm1we can do that, but by release time it needs to be fixed12:33
superm1(as in archives)12:33
Davieymsttcorefonts will do for now?12:33
superm1for now it works fine12:34
superm1its just that we cant distribute it like this right now12:34
superm1....or shouldnt be better yet12:34
DavieyMind you; users cannot create documents using the fake fonts as there is no text editor that will use them on base mythbuntu install :)12:35
superm1Daviey, can i see your revu link?12:35
superm1i'm curious to see what they said12:35
Davieyhttp://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=518212:35
Davieysuperm1: it was on irc12:35
superm1ah12:35
superm1but these are in debian now you said?12:36
Davieyno; the deb guys are trying to get a +1 to get it in theres aswell12:36
superm1ohh12:36
superm1idealy if debian straightens this out soon12:36
superm1it can just be synced12:36
DavieyPersonally i'd rather use theirs - keeps it consistant at upstream merge12:36
superm1Daviey, any words on the mythtv-themes-unofficial package?12:37
Davieyyeah; i did email the deb guys; that's how i found out the prob12:37
Davieysuperm1: sadly not - but considering it's a conversion from norm package to meta-package - is it holding things up?12:37
OpenMediaWhere are the issues documented about the font license.12:38
superm1well atm not yet.  within the next week or two jared and i should have the rest of the installer ready though12:38
Davieysuperm1: this last month has been so hectic.  I'm hoping to either get it done tommorow afternoon or early next week12:38
superm1so your two things will be holding up then :)12:38
superm1(the themes-unofficial and the metas)12:38
Davieyowwww.... had an idea.  Rather than call it *-unoffical what about *-extras12:39
Daviey*-extra rather12:39
superm1doesnt matter ot me one way or anothre12:40
superm1perhaps -community ?12:40
superm1instead12:40
Davieythat's better12:41
Davieyanyway.. I'll submit 1 theme to revu - if that has no probs, i'll throw the rest in and the meta12:41

superm1sounds good Daviey12:52
superm1Daviey, you should look at how I have done my last few with cdbs12:58
superm1and a bzr branch12:58
superm1http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=541912:58
superm1dont have to nec. use the bzr branch, but cdbs is very easy to read/follow12:59
Davieyany guides on cdbs01:06
Davieycdbs is entirely new to me01:06
Davieyonly heard of it when you mentioned it the other day01:06
superm1it handles a lot of it for you01:08
superm1for a themes package, you can follow exactly what i did01:08
superm1with that gdm theme01:08
superm1just take out the bzr lines in debian/rule01:08
superm1just take out the bzr lines in debian/rules01:08
superm1and make sure debian/copyright is correct01:08
Davieycool01:09
Davieynp01:09
superm1when you've got it ready, i can do a prelook over before motu's if i'm around if you want too01:10
Davieyyes01:11
Davieyi'll ping / email you when it's uploaded01:11
superm1great01:12
superm1as for the metas, i can explain to you a little more whats involved yet01:12
superm1there is a "seeds" directory in the bzr branch01:12
superm1as of probably 11 revisions ago01:12
superm1(we're at 58)01:12
superm1You use that to define exactly what apps are in what packages01:12
superm1and then inside the source package, you do a 'germination' (explained in a readme with the package)01:12
superm1to update from the seeds01:12
Davieyoic01:13
Davieyisn't that more complicated than standard?01:13
superm1well it allows for easy updates is the idea01:14
superm1you change one line, and it is reflected appropriately01:14
superm1in the resultant metas01:14
superm1with all its dependencies01:14
superm1so there are two meta that were started then, mythbuntu-live and mythbuntu-standalone01:14
Davieycool01:14
superm1live will include *everything*01:14
superm1standalone includes everythign not removed by options01:14
Davieyahh01:16
superm1and i think that's pretty much the jist of it.  all the files that are needed during the live install can be installed in mythbuntu-live, and the files that end up in /etc/skel after the install is done can be in mythbuntu-standalone01:18
superm1Daviey, so you've been tracking the debian bug 423503 then right?01:20

DavieyOpenMedia: to be fair - we are first tryig to get the liberation fonts into a a package and accepted.  Once tht is done there needs tp be another package that depends on the fonts tha creates symlinks to the ms font filenames.  This will mean that apps can still refer to 'Arial' and get what is expected - but the fonts will be truly free01:39

superm1so basic concepts you would associate with english words09:44
superm1and things you can't represent in english09:44
superm1are represented in german09:44
lagai can represent them in english, but i could also represent them in flowcharts or something. it's just clutching for straws so i can understand them.09:45
superm1i see09:45
superm1what are you reading about XML translations for?09:45
lagaif i was *writing* technical documentation in english, i'd usually think in english because it makes the job easier and because i have already understood what i am talking about09:45

lagait looks like there'll be a theme downloader10:07
superm1oh so they will come with the theme downloader then10:08
superm1i see10:08
superm1well then what is the smartest way to approach the themes problem?10:08
lagasvn co && dpkg-buildpackage ;)10:08
superm1for mythbuntu10:09
superm1and mythtv on ubuntu10:09
superm1packaging wise10:09
lagaput each theme in its own package i'd say10:09
superm1and then the obsoleted ones we dont do anything with10:09
superm1*we remove from the archive10:10
lagawhich ones are obsoleted?10:10
superm1next ubuntu release10:10
superm1well the ones that dont need to be packaged10:10
superm1because of the theme downloader10:10
lagaold themes like visor should be dealt with by upstream10:10
lagaoh10:10
lagahumm10:10
lagasuperm1: i have no clue how it'll be handled. a "theme downloader" sounds like it'd give you all kinds of troubles, because it'd need root permissions etc10:10
lagaand not everyone has got net access on their mythtv boxen10:11
superm1well it can probably save to ~/.mythtv10:11
superm1if its smart10:11
lagait's still a WIP, i suppose10:11
lagatrue10:11
superm1okay Daviey10:11
superm1get a theme on revu already10:11
superm1:)10:11
superm1lets get that settled soon10:11
lagasuperm1: guess we need to talk to juski what he's gonna do exactly10:12
superm1well for all the other themes at least10:13
superm1we need to get those in10:13
