cberloAnyone find a good workaround for the broken CUPS server?02:06
Kamping_Kaisercberlo, in what way?02:07
cberloCUPS hits some kind of error and starts spitting out "Unable to accept connection" at about 100 messages a minute (or more).  Restarting the service fixes it, but it returns later.02:08
Kamping_Kaiseri think i know the bug, but i dont know a fix02:08
Kamping_Kaiserbug/feature/problem02:08
cberloMy fix so far has been to use a cron job to see if the error exists every 15 minutes and restart the service.  Just wondering if a more frequent check would work or just cause system lag.02:09

cottimaogra, excuse my moments then, I am bit upset with ltsp.org for not doing much documentation.  My opinion:  I think that they should host all documentation.07:26
ogracottima, well, with ltsp5 thats rather a job of the distros for the distro specific parts at least ...07:27
cliebow_cottima:things are devloping wicked fast..but point taken..we need someone to grab that project and run witit07:27
ograltsp itself will only be caring for the ltsp scripts in the future ...07:27

cliebow_k..i need to crawl back to the hole Gadi left for me when he went to Betherl07:29
cottimathat is kind of what I mean.  (If I understand ltsp 5,) The scripts and "user end" part should be documented on their site, yet I think they should mirror the docs.  (Although, most of what I say is out of frustration.)07:29
cliebow_Balls!07:29
ogracottima, well, you are surely right ... we're lacking a bit manpower at ltsp.org for fixing the docs  .. as you can see from my mail its not different in (ed)ubuntu either07:30
juliuxogra, should i upgrade my feisty to gutsy or better make a fresh gutsy installation?07:32
cottimaI guess I should shut up for now, since I have no time being in school.   Then I should contribute to a project by helping in making docs.07:32

svgHi folks08:00
svgI just read http://www.grawert.net/weblog.cgi/2007/06/20#2007-0620_17:54:20_LTSP_is_dead,_long_live_LTSP which made me come here08:00
svgI haven't used LTSP technology yet, and before I dive into it, I wanted to get some feedback08:01
ograshoot08:01
svgI was wondering about performance of remote X stuff08:01
svgI once did a remote DMCP X session from laptop to desktop, over my home lan hub, and that was painfully slow08:01
svgso I'm wondering how LTSP is different08:01
ograyou should have a switch and you should have a 100MBit network08:02
svg100mbit I had08:02
svgit was no switch, but it was the only traffic on my home lan at the time08:02
ograwell, thats usually sufficient to run a bunch of ltsp clients on ...08:02
svgwell, it wasn't :)08:03
svgI tend to compare with other technologies such as windows remote desktop, citrix and freenx, which are extrremely performant at what they do08:03
ograwhat did you run on your laptop when you tried that ?08:03
ogranote that LTSP is rather like an embedded system that only starts X server and login manager on the client side08:04
svgboth hosts were runining plain ubuntu, the laptop is a very recent box08:05
ograwell, try out ltsp and check yourself :)08:06
ogramany people use it happily on 100MBit networks :)08:06
sbalneavogra: heh, saw the bloggy post.08:07
svgwell, I'm sure it's good stuff, i'm just curious on the technicall differences08:07
sbalneavExcellent.08:07
sbalneavI'll make one too :)08:07
ograyeah08:08
ograsvg, the DIRECTX mode i blogged about isnt much different from standard XDMCP (apart from password encryption)08:10
ograthe encrypted mode we use by default does essentially: ssh -X user@server /etc/X11/Xsession08:11
svgogra, ok, I'll read into this, this stuff is new for me08:14

cottimaI have a compaq dl360, so all ubuntu CDs will not install, I think I found a custom cd for it.  yet I was wondering, to conserve CD-Rs and since I have a debian install.  Is it possible to change a debian install to unbuntu/edubuntu?10:49

cottimaogra, it could be bad question but... Is it possible to change a debian install to unbuntu/edubuntu?10:53
LaserJockthat's kind of tough10:54
LaserJockit can do bad things, but it could also kinda work10:54
ogra_i'd call it gambling10:54
ogra_but if you are lucky *shrug*10:54
cottimawell, I am kind of lost on this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2321786#post232178610:55
cottimawhen I tried expert, it did the same thing.  then tried again at boot up exited to text and typed "linux noprobe noapic noapci" and that time it did not even show a drive at all.  so is there something at bootup that I do or do I download the torrent on page 2?10:57

LaserJocksbalneav: C question for you ;-)11:09
sbalneavYes indeedy11:09
LaserJockI'm trying to do an if with two conditions11:09
LaserJock condition1 and not condition211:09
LaserJockcan I just do condition1 && !condition2?11:10
sbalneavYes11:10
sbalneavif ( a == 1 && !(b == 2))11:10
sbalneavMight have to use some parens11:11
sbalneavif b is an int, if you write:11:11
sbalneavif (a == 1 && !b == 2)11:11
sbalneavif b != 0 you'll get 0 == 211:11
sbalneavif b == 0 then you'll get 1 == 211:12
sbalneavso it'll always be false no matter what b is.11:12
sbalneavso throw in some extra parens.11:12
=== Mez [n=Mez@ubuntu/member/mez] has joined #edubuntu
sbalneavI usually ALWAYS, as a matter of style write like this:11:12
sbalneavif ( (a == 1) && !(b == 2) )11:13
sbalneavwhich makes it abundantly clear what you're trying to accomplish11:13
sbalneavmake sense?11:14
LaserJockyes it does11:14
LaserJockbuilding new gnome-panel11:18

PeacefulI just tried using a Neoware c50 client as an ltsp-client on a brand-new edubuntu 7.04 x86 install, and all sorts of screen artifacts are present when you log in11:27
pips1LaserJock: was highvoltage at the meeting?11:28
Peacefulanyone have any idea what I could try to get rid of the massive screen weirdness?11:28
pips1Peaceful: did you try different video drivers?11:29
Peacefulpips1, nope, haven't tried a thing.  I'm fairly new to ltsp stuff.11:29
Peacefulpips1, so, I assume I could read up on client configuration for how to change video drivers?11:30

pips1Peaceful: I'm actually not sure how well that is documented... let me have a quick look for you11:30
Peacefulpips1, ok...I'm looking for client configuration docs too...11:31
Peacefulhttp://www.edubuntu.org/ThinClientConfig  <-- looks close, but nothing about video drivers11:31
Peacefulno, wait, XSERVER seems to be a video driver parameter11:32
pips1http://doc.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/handbook/C/ltsp-client.html11:32
pips1perhaps "XSERVER = vesa"11:32
pips1not sure though11:32
Peacefulsounds like a good start11:32
Peacefulhmm, how do you figure out the MAC address of a client when the display isn't working so well?11:33
Peacefulmaybe dhcp3 logs MAC addresses...11:34
pips1worth a look11:34
LaserJockpips1: no, he was too tired11:35
pips1ic11:35
LaserJockpips1: he stopped by before he went to bed to tell us the situation11:35
pips1and?11:35
pips1what did he say?11:36
LaserJockthat the server was being upgraded11:36
LaserJockand it should be done todayish11:36
pips1aha11:36
=== pips1 wonders what is being upgraded
