crimsunjohanbr: I'm traveling for the next two weeks, so access is quite spotty.  What's the update?05:12
johanbrcrimsun: Doesn't look good, I'm afraid. Both the btsco kernel module and the headsetd from bluetooth-alsa give hard lockups with the Feisty release kernel. The gutsy kernels won't even boot. Compiling 2.6.22-rc5 from kernel.org as we speak.05:14
johanbrApparently the Broadcom bluetooth controller that my laptop uses has some quirks that needs kernel workarounds. These workarounds are supposed to be in the newest kernels, but those don't seem to boot. Something acpi-related, I think.05:16
johanbrWell, gotta reboot. We'll see how this goes...05:25
=== johanbr [n=j@JBrannlund.MathStat.Dal.Ca] has joined #ubuntu-kernel
johanbrNo luck, it seems. 2.6.22-rc5 hangs on boot, as does 2.6.21.5 and the Gutsy kernels. I filed a bug for the kernel hang at boot: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/12160305:46

jkakarI'm using Ubuntu Tribe 1 on a rev 3 Macbook.07:59
jkakarI got wireless working great with it.  Today I upgraded (the first upgrade since the Tribe 1 install) and now my networking is flaky.  Wireless doesn't work at all and wired fails after a while (seems to be after about 512MB is transferred, or so).08:00
jkakarI tried running a ping while copying a large amount of data and got this error: ping sendmsg: No buffer space available08:00
jkakarIs this a kernel issue?  Where should I file a bug/what should I do to investigate this further?08:01
fabbionejkakar: yes that looks like a kernel bug. use LP against linux-source-2.6.2208:02
fabbionealso make sure to try the old kernel08:02
fabbioneand see if that fixes the problem08:02
jkakarfabbione: Cool.  How do you recommend I try an older kernel?08:03
fabbionejkakar: well you can grab the binary from tribe1 cd or from LP directly08:03
fabbioneinstall it08:03
fabbioneand reboot?08:03
jkakarfabbione: Ah, okay.  Awesome, thanks.08:03

jkakarfabbione: Do you know where I'd find an older kernel on the Tribe 1 CD?  Or on Launchpad for that matter?09:18
jkakarfabbione: I've looked at both with no luck. :(09:18
fabbionejkakar: if you have the cd.. mount it somewhere and go in pool/l/linux-source-2.6.2209:18
fabbionethe kernel is there09:18
jkakarfabbione: I looked there; all I see is a libc package.  It's the same as the version already installed.09:19

fabbionemy bad09:20
jkakarfabbione: Has the kernel changed since Tribe 1?  I only see that libc package with find /var/cache/apt/archives -name linux\*09:20
fabbioneno i don't think it did change09:21
jkakarfabbione: Cool.  So, it was probably just a problem I didn't notice until after the upgrade.  I only installed Tribe 1 yesterday.09:21
jkakarfabbione: If there's anything I can do to help make rev 3 Macbook support rock let me know. :)09:22
fabbionejkakar: you want to follow the proper procedure.. file bugs and talk to the kernel team (BenC & co)09:22
jkakarfabbione: Ah, sorry, I thought you were part of that team.  I've filed a bug and will follow up with them.  Thanks for your help.09:23
fabbionejkakar: i am but i don't do intel *cough*junk*cough* ;)09:23
fabbionei only do sparc bits09:24
jkakarAh, hehe. :)09:24
jkakarfabbione: This piece of junk runs the Landscape test suite in 1m35s vs the 2m35s my old piece of junk took.  The junk is getting faster at least. ;)09:24
fabbionejkakar: can the landscape test suite fork and run on multiple CPU's?09:25
jkakarfabbione: No.  We haven't had the need for that yet.09:25
fabbionetsk09:26
jkakarfabbione: There's much easier lower hanging fruit in terms of test speed optimization before we go there.09:26
fabbioneehehe yeah i believe you09:26
jkakarI'm also not convinced it's CPU bound anyway.  I think it's IO bound on the database.  Anyway... bed time.  Thanks again fabbione.09:27

pittiBenC: when can we expect a new kernel? there are some kernel bugs tagged as tribe-205:22
pittiand I'd like to have a plan for it, for freezing etc.05:22
BenCpitti: this weekend, in time for Tue freeze05:23
zuli guess we will have the xen stuff after tribe-2?05:24
pittiBenC: then I'll try to hop online at some occasions for NEWing and such05:24
BenCzul: looks that way05:24

johanbrcrimsun: Hi. If you see this, the news today is slightly better. I now have my headset pairing working with the 2.6.20-15 kernel, using the old snd-bt-sco kernel module. I still haven't been able to get it work with the 2.6.22 kernels - there it seems you have to use headsetd, as the snd-bt-sco module appears to have been removed.06:07
